You do not need Meta Muse to use Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Meta Horizon, or Threads. Meta presents those as separate apps and services. Use each one through its own app or official web access. Muse is an optional personal AI agent that can connect to some services; it is not a prerequisite for opening an account, reading messages, posting, or using the ordinary features of those services.

Meta Muse and Meta’s other apps are different products
The confusion comes from the shared Meta name. Muse is a personal AI agent with its own clients and optional connectors. Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Meta Horizon, and Threads are separate consumer services. Meta’s product directory lists them independently, and it does not describe Muse as a required component of any of them.
That distinction has two practical consequences:
- You can use a Meta social or messaging service without installing Muse or granting Muse access to your account.
- You can use Muse without installing its dedicated app by choosing a supported web or WhatsApp route. That gives you access to the agent, not a replacement interface for every Meta service.
Muse may connect to Instagram or Facebook after you authorize a connection, but “can connect” is not the same as “must be connected.” A person who never uses Muse can continue using those services normally.

Use each Meta service through its own access route
To avoid Muse entirely, open the service’s own mobile app or its official web experience and sign in with that service’s account. The exact features offered in a browser, the supported devices, and regional availability can differ, so use the access options shown by the service itself.

Meta’s directory also lists Meta AI among its services. Do not assume that a listing for Meta AI or Muse changes the sign-in or installation requirements for another product; follow the instructions shown by that product.
Step-by-step: use Facebook, Instagram, or another Meta app without Muse
- Choose the service you actually want. Install its official app from your device’s normal app store, or open the service’s official website in a browser.
- Sign in to that service. Use the account credentials and verification method requested by the service. Muse is not part of this sign-in flow.
- Use the service’s own controls. Posting, messaging, privacy settings, notifications, and account recovery are handled inside the selected service.
- Decline optional Muse prompts. If a page or message invites you to connect Muse, you can close it and continue using the service without authorizing a connector.
- Keep the products separate. Installing or opening Muse later is a choice, not a condition for keeping the other app installed.
Browser support is not necessarily identical to app support. If a button or feature is missing on the web, use the service’s own mobile app rather than installing Muse as a workaround. Muse does not turn into a universal browser wrapper for Meta products.

Use Muse without installing its dedicated app
Meta’s September 8, 2026 announcement describes three Muse clients: iOS, Android, and the web at muse.ai. It also says Muse can be messaged directly in WhatsApp. The following routes are alternatives for accessing Muse itself.
Option 1: Open Muse on the web
- Open a current browser on a phone, tablet, or computer.
- Go to muse.ai.
- Follow the sign-in or account-creation steps shown on the official page.
- Start a conversation or task in the web interface.
This route avoids installing a Muse package on the device. It still depends on the service being offered in your country and to your account. The launch announcement specifically described a United States rollout, so a page that is unavailable, wait-listed, or missing features outside that rollout should not be treated as a device fault.
Option 2: Message Muse in WhatsApp
- Open WhatsApp, which you can use independently of Muse.
- Use the official Muse entry point shown inside WhatsApp or provided through Meta’s current Muse instructions. Do not rely on an unverified contact claiming to be Muse.
- Send a message and follow the identity, consent, or account-linking prompts that appear.
- Before authorizing a connector or approving an action, read what the request allows.
Messaging Muse in WhatsApp does not mean that every Facebook, Instagram, or other Meta feature is now available inside the chat. It is an access channel for the agent. Ordinary WhatsApp conversations and account controls remain governed by WhatsApp.
Option 3: Install the dedicated Muse app later
If you want the full dedicated-client experience, Meta’s announcement names iOS and Android apps. Installing one is optional for people who prefer an app icon, notifications, or the controls offered by that client. It is not required for using the other Meta apps, and it is not the only way to reach Muse.

Which Muse access route should you choose?

Meta’s safety documentation says users choose which services to connect and can change access or disconnect a service. You therefore have a middle option between “install everything” and “never use Muse”: use Muse for selected tasks while leaving other accounts unconnected.
Before connecting an account
- Identify the exact task you want the agent to perform.
- Read the permissions requested by the connector instead of accepting a broad request automatically.
- Connect only the service needed for that task.
- Decide whether the task requires viewing information, drafting content, or taking an external action.
After connecting
- Review the connected-services list periodically.
- Reduce access when a task is complete.
- Disconnect a service you no longer use with Muse.
- Keep using the service’s own privacy and security controls; a Muse connection does not replace them.
Disconnecting Muse does not delete your Facebook or Instagram account. It removes the agent’s authorized connection according to the controls Meta provides.
Understand the safety limits before allowing actions
Meta describes Muse as running in a dedicated cloud virtual machine, with a separate Sentinel permission authority for connector actions and internet access. Meta also says the system asks for approval for certain actions. These are the company’s product and security descriptions, not an independent security audit.

For practical use, treat every proposed action as something to check:
- Confirm the destination, recipient, amount, or form fields before approving.
- Be especially cautious with sending messages, making purchases, submitting forms, changing account settings, or publishing content.
- Grant the minimum access needed and remove it afterward when possible.
- Stop if a prompt asks for credentials, permissions, or an action unrelated to your original request.
Meta’s safety post acknowledges two important limitations: Muse can make mistakes, and prompt injection remains an open problem. The company’s own wording is: “Muse can and will still make mistakes, but we expect they’ll be much less frequent and cause much less damage due to the safety systems we’ve built in.” That statement expresses Meta’s expectation, not a guarantee that every action will be correct or harmless.
What Muse does not replace
Muse is not a universal login, account-recovery tool, or substitute for each service’s settings. You still manage passwords, two-factor authentication, blocked accounts, privacy choices, notification preferences, archived chats, and profile controls in Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, or Meta Horizon themselves. A Muse conversation may help draft or initiate a task, but the original service remains the place to verify its status.

Likewise, opening muse.ai does not automatically display your Facebook feed, Instagram inbox, WhatsApp history, or Threads timeline. Those products keep their own interfaces and rules. A connector may let Muse work with selected information or actions after you approve access, but that narrower connection should not be confused with complete access to the service.
Availability, rollout, and cost
The September 8, 2026 launch announcement says Muse was rolling out in the United States on iOS, Android, and muse.ai, with direct WhatsApp messaging, and that it is free for most needs with subscription plans for people who want to do more. The announcement does not establish worldwide availability, current subscription names, prices, usage limits, or eligibility rules.
Because rollout details can change, check the current official Muse page or the app listing for your country. A subscription to Muse, if offered, is relevant only to Muse usage; it does not become a requirement for using Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Meta Horizon, or Threads.
Privacy and permission checklist
Before linking any account, write down what you expect Muse to do and what it should never do. That makes a broad permission request easier to question. Prefer read-only or draft-oriented access when that is sufficient, and avoid connecting additional services merely because they are available.
- Use the official Muse page or an in-product connection flow, not a link sent by an unknown account.
- Check the service name, account identity, and requested scope on the consent screen.
- Do not paste passwords, one-time codes, payment-card details, or recovery keys into an ordinary chat.
- Review recipients, prices, destinations, attachments, and form entries before approving an external action.
- After finishing a task, revisit connected-service controls and disconnect access you no longer need.
- If something unexpected happens, stop the task and use the original service’s security and support controls.
These habits matter even when an approval prompt is displayed. Approval reduces accidental actions, but it does not remove the need to inspect what an agent is proposing.

“Instagram asks me to install Muse.”
Look for a dismiss, skip, or continue option and proceed with Instagram’s own app or web access. A prompt to try an optional AI connection does not establish that Muse is required. If the prompt blocks access unexpectedly, check Instagram’s current help and account settings rather than installing an unrelated app blindly.
“I cannot find Muse in my country.”
The launch statement describes a US rollout, not universal availability. Check the current official Muse page and your local iOS or Android listing. Until Muse is offered to your region, continue using each Meta service through its own supported route.

“The Muse web page works, but a connected action fails.”
Review whether the connector is still authorized, whether the requested permission covers the action, and whether the service itself is available in your country. Reconnect only through the official Muse interface. If the action involves publishing, messaging, money, or a form submission, perform it manually in the original service when the agent cannot clearly show what it will do.
“I connected Facebook or Instagram and want to remove access.”
Open Muse’s connected-services or permission controls, select the relevant service, and use the available change-access or disconnect command. Then check the account’s own security settings for any separate sessions or third-party access entries.
“Can Muse replace the Facebook or Instagram app?”
No. Muse is an agent that may connect to selected services. It is not described as a complete replacement interface for every feature, feed, message type, or account setting in those services.
