Use Jasmine to organize specs and assertions, and Selenium WebDriver to open and control a real browser. Install both JavaScript packages in a Node.js project, create a WebDriver session in Jasmine’s asynchronous hooks, await every browser command, and quit the session during cleanup. This is different from running Jasmine specs inside a browser with jasmine-browser-runner.
How Jasmine and Selenium work together
Jasmine is a JavaScript test framework: it provides specs, hooks, and expectations. Selenium WebDriver is the browser-control layer: it navigates pages, locates elements, interacts with them, and reads rendered results. Jasmine does not itself automate a browser. Selenium’s JavaScript bindings run from Node.js, and Selenium documents wrappers for using its JavaScript testing API with Jasmine. See the Jasmine project, Selenium WebDriver documentation, and Selenium JavaScript testing API.
In this workflow, a Jasmine spec runs in Node.js and sends commands to a browser through WebDriver. Choose it when you need to exercise an application as a user would—for example, entering a form value, clicking submit, and checking the result shown on the page.
Set up a Node.js project
You need the project’s Node.js environment, Jasmine, Selenium’s JavaScript binding, and either a supported browser with its corresponding driver or access to a remote Selenium server. The Selenium installation guide describes these setup components: Selenium installation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm the project runs under Node.js and decide whether its tests use CommonJS or ES modules.
- Install Jasmine and
selenium-webdriveras development dependencies using your project’s package manager. Follow the current package documentation to select and pin versions. - Install or provision a browser and compatible driver, or obtain the URL of an externally managed Selenium server.
- Configure Jasmine to discover your spec files using the project’s chosen module style.
- Add an asynchronous spec and run it locally against one browser before expanding to remote or additional-browser coverage.
The official integration documentation establishes the pattern, but not a durable package-version compatibility matrix. Check the current release documentation for the versions you choose; no specific version combination is asserted here.
Write an asynchronous Jasmine spec
This CommonJS example shows the integration shape. Replace the example URL and selectors with those in your application. It has not been represented as a tested fixture.

const { Builder, By, Browser } = require('selenium-webdriver');

driver = await new Builder().forBrowser(Browser.CHROME).build();
});
afterAll(async () => {

});
Use asynchronous Jasmine hooks and specs supported by your installed Jasmine release. Await navigation, element lookup, interaction, and result reads: otherwise an expectation may run before the browser command finishes. Selenium’s documented JavaScript testing API demonstrates asynchronous hooks, awaited actions, and driver shutdown.
Choose the driver’s lifetime deliberately
The example shares one browser session across the suite, which avoids starting a new session for every spec but can let state leak between tests. For stronger isolation, create a session per spec and quit it in afterEach; that adds session setup time. Whichever scope you choose, guard cleanup in case setup failed before assigning the driver, and ensure quit() runs when a spec fails.

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Wait for page changes that take time
When the application updates asynchronously, wait for a meaningful condition—such as the response element becoming available—instead of treating an arbitrary fixed sleep as the default. Consult Selenium’s documentation on WebDriver waits and interactions for the waiting strategy appropriate to the page. Keep expectations focused on outcomes visible to the user.
Run against a remote Selenium server
Selenium’s documented JavaScript test helpers support choosing a browser with SELENIUM_BROWSER and targeting an externally managed server with SELENIUM_REMOTE_URL. Configure these for the helper or environment used by your test setup, and provide a remote endpoint only when you have a Selenium server or grid available. The Selenium JavaScript testing API documents these settings: testing API and remote configuration.

- Install
jasmine-browser-runnerandjasmine-corefollowing the current Jasmine browser setup documentation. - Initialize its configuration with
npx jasmine-browser-runner init. - Run the specs with
npx jasmine-browser-runner runSpecs. - Set the browser through the runner configuration. Its documentation also describes remote grid execution, including a user’s own Selenium Grid and Sauce Labs as an example: Jasmine browser setup.
This workflow runs the specs in a browser; the Node-driven Jasmine-plus-Selenium workflow instead uses WebDriver commands from the test process to operate on the application.
Troubleshoot common failures
- The browser does not start: verify that the browser is installed, the requested browser name is supported by the current setup, and a compatible driver is available. For a remote session, check that the configured server endpoint is reachable.
- A test finishes before an action or assertion: make the spec or hook asynchronous and await each WebDriver operation, including navigation, lookup, clicks, typing, and reads.
- Cleanup reports an error after setup failed: check whether the driver was created before calling
quit(); guard cleanup when no session exists. - An element cannot be found immediately after navigation: the page may render it asynchronously. Wait for a relevant condition rather than relying on a fixed delay as the standard solution.
- Tests interfere with one another: shared suite-level browser state can persist between specs. Reset the application state or use a per-spec session, accepting the additional setup overhead.
- The runner does not execute the expected kind of test: confirm whether you intended Node-driven WebDriver tests or Jasmine specs executing in a browser, then configure Selenium/Jasmine or
jasmine-browser-runneraccordingly.
Or skip the browser setup
