Hytale’s five Goblin gadgets are available in Exploration Mode with the October 12, 2026 release of Chapter I: Out of the Breach. They cover five different jobs: clearing blocks, gliding, gaining jump height, crossing gaps, and viewing distant places. The official release material confirms what each item does, but it does not publish a complete set of recipes or default controls for every gadget. Treat the instructions below as a mechanics and decision guide, then verify the current tooltip and keybinds in your game.
Gadgets at a glance
Choose the tool by the problem in front of you rather than carrying all five for the same reason. The Scrap Drill is the specialist for block removal; the Scrap Glider and Rocket Boots solve different vertical-movement problems; the Hookshot is for reaching a point; and the Spyglass is for seeing one before you travel.

What changed with Chapter I
Chapter I: Out of the Breach was announced as released on October 12, 2026, and its new content arrived in Exploration Mode. That release announcement is the current availability reference. September 2026 Update 7 notes described Chapter I while it was still changing and said much of the content was initially reached through Creative Mode; do not use those earlier notes to conclude that Exploration Mode lacks the gadgets now.
Hytale describes Early Access as “rough and unfinished,” and a July 16, 2026 gadget preview quoted game director Simon saying, “Goblin gear is scrappy, but that’s part of the fun!” In practical terms, names, balance, animations, durability, and controls can change in later updates. If an action in this guide does not match your build, trust the current in-game tooltip and Controls screen rather than an old key list.

Before using any gadget
Confirm the mode and update
Load the world in Exploration Mode and make sure the client has the Chapter I content. If a gadget is missing, first check that the game finished updating and that you are not following a pre-release Creative Mode-only instruction. The October release state supersedes the September availability notes.
Find the current action and equip behavior
The reviewed official descriptions do not state a universal default key for deploying every gadget. Read the item tooltip, inspect the current Controls screen, and test the action in a safe area before taking the item over a ravine or into a mine. The exact deployment input for the Scrap Glider and the aiming and firing controls for the Hookshot are not established in the published descriptions.
Make a low-risk test area
- Stand on level ground near your base, with a visible landing area.
- Use the gadget once and observe whether it consumes stamina, changes your movement, or requires a second input to stop.
- Repeat from a small height before trying a cliff, cave, or long crossing.
- Check the item’s condition or durability display if the current interface provides one.
This test is especially important for the Scrap Glider. The release announcement warns that landing with low Stamina can be difficult, so begin a flight with enough reserve to control the landing rather than spending the entire bar on ascent.
Scrap Drill: clear blocks in a 2×2 patch
What it does
The Scrap Drill breaks a 2×2 patch of blocks at once. Earlier official pre-release notes also specify that it can break and loot metal blocks and mention that its durability and animation were adjusted during development. Those notes do not provide a permanent durability value, so inspect the current item state in your build.
How to use it safely
- Place yourself so the four-block area you intend to remove is fully in front of the drill’s target point.
- Check the block face and surrounding supports. A 2×2 action can remove more material than a single-block tool and may open a drop, expose a hazard, or weaken a structure.
- Activate the drill using the current item action shown by the game.
- Collect the drops and look at the drill’s remaining condition before continuing.
- Repeat in measured sections when working beside a build instead of holding the action through an entire wall.
Mining applications
Use the drill where four adjacent blocks are genuinely useful: widening a tunnel, opening a doorway, clearing a room, or removing a compact ore-bearing section. Its ability to break and loot metal blocks was documented in pre-release notes, but the notes do not define every block type or guarantee identical behavior after later balance changes. Confirm the target material in your current world before committing a valuable wall or machine room to the drill.
Building applications and limits
The drill can speed demolition and site preparation, but it is not documented as a construction tool. It does not establish a special building mode, automatic replacement, or precision editing function. Mark the edge of a structure, keep a normal single-block tool available for trimming, and stop after each 2×2 section when preserving a façade matters.

Scrap Glider: preserve momentum while you travel
What it does
The Scrap Glider enables gliding, diving, and climbing while retaining momentum when deployed. That combination makes it a movement tool rather than a stationary flight mode: your launch height, direction, and Stamina management determine how far and how safely you travel.
A reliable first flight
- Choose a broad landing zone with no immediate trees, spikes, water hazards, or narrow ledges.
- Reach a modest launch height and deploy the glider using the current action shown in your build; the official release material does not name the default deployment input.
- Use gentle steering first. Watch how quickly the glider turns and how much momentum it retains after you change direction.
- Practice a shallow descent before trying to climb. Earlier pre-release notes say the Sprint keybind is used to dive and ascend, but that association may be changed by later updates or custom bindings.
- Begin the final approach with Stamina remaining. The release announcement specifically cautions that a low-Stamina landing can be difficult.
Survival routes
From a ridge, the glider can turn a long descent into a controlled traverse and can help you keep momentum while crossing broken terrain. Use it to scout a route between high points, but do not treat it as a guarantee that every valley or cliff can be climbed. A failed landing costs time and may strand you below the route you planned.
Building-site use
A glider is useful when your proposed site is separated from your base by ravines or steep slopes. Launch from a known high point, survey the approach, and keep a ground route available for hauling materials. The item is not documented as placing blocks or changing structures; its building value is the access and overview it provides.
Rocket Boots: use the double jump for short vertical problems
What they do
Rocket Boots provide a double jump. The confirmed function is simple: after your normal jump, a second jump gives you additional height or lets you correct your position in midair.

- Approach the ledge or gap at normal speed so the first jump starts from a predictable position.
- Use the first jump to clear the lower edge.
- Trigger the second jump at the point where the extra height is needed, rather than immediately after leaving the ground.
- Land on a surface with enough width for a follow-up move; the boots do not replace a glider for long-distance travel.
Use the boots for a short cliff, a high doorway, a roofline, or a build platform that is just beyond ordinary jump height. They complement the Scrap Glider: boots solve a local vertical step, while the glider is suited to sustained movement with momentum.
The official material confirms the double-jump behavior but does not document a special construction interaction, a guaranteed distance, or a separate fuel rule. Do not assume that the boots can hover, negate all fall risk, or substitute for a Hookshot across a large gap.

Hookshot and Hook Anchors: travel between fixed points
What they do
The Hookshot works with Hook Anchors to let you zip across points in the world. In survival terms, that makes it a point-to-point traversal aid: you need a reachable anchor or a suitable point in the environment, and the tool moves you toward it.
Set up a crossing
- Identify the destination before activating the tool. A visible anchor, landing shelf, or other safe endpoint is easier to evaluate than an unseen target.
- Stand far enough back to see the complete route and check for hazards between the two points.
- Aim and fire using the current controls shown by the game. The published descriptions do not specify the exact aiming or firing inputs.
- After the zip, pause on the destination and confirm that you are stable before firing again.
- For a repeated route, place or use anchors where the approach and landing are both safe, then test the line with minimal carried valuables.
When it beats the other movement tools
The Hookshot is preferable to Rocket Boots when the destination is a distinct point across a gap, and it is preferable to a glider when there is no useful launch height or when precision at one anchor matters more than distance. It is not described as a block-placement or building-editing device. Treat any anchor network you create as traversal infrastructure, not as proof of a dedicated construction mode.

Spyglass: inspect distance before committing
What it does
The Spyglass zooms in on distant activity. Its value is information: you can inspect a far-off location before walking, gliding, or building there.
Use it as a scouting loop
- Stop at a safe overlook with cover or a clear retreat path.
- Activate the Spyglass and scan the route, horizon, and intended site.
- Look for terrain breaks, possible landing areas, and anything that would change your approach.
- Lower the Spyglass before moving so you do not begin a traversal action while still zoomed.
- Choose the movement gadget that matches what you saw: a glider for a long descent, boots for a short rise, or a Hookshot for a specific anchor.
Update 7 fixed a bug in which zooming with the Spyglass prevented Stamina from recovering. If your current build behaves differently, check for a newer patch and avoid assuming that a past bug still exists.
Choosing a gadget for a survival or building task

Combining tools is often more reliable than forcing one gadget to do everything. For example, use the Spyglass from a ridge, the Scrap Glider to descend toward the area, Rocket Boots to reach a final ledge, and the Scrap Drill to open the first room. That sequence is a practical use of the confirmed functions, not a special combo or guaranteed game mechanic.

1. Survey before leaving your base
Use the Spyglass from a safe high point to inspect candidate locations. Note the approach, the likely landing area, and whether the site has a workable ground route for returning with materials.

2. Choose the least risky approach
Use the Hookshot when a clear anchor gives you a short, controlled crossing. Use Rocket Boots for a small rise. Use the Scrap Glider only when you have enough height, room to steer, and Stamina for the landing.
3. Prepare the footprint
Once on site, use the Scrap Drill for broad clearing in measured 2×2 sections. Preserve corners, supports, and terrain you intend to keep; finish edges with a more precise tool if necessary.
4. Keep an exit route
Do not make the only way home a gadget maneuver you have not practiced. A ground path, a tested anchor, or a known launch point protects a long building session from one failed landing or depleted movement resource.

The gadget does not activate
Check that it is equipped, that the world is running the Chapter I content in Exploration Mode, and that you are using the current item action. Because default controls are not fully published and may change during Early Access, inspect the present tooltip and Controls screen instead of importing a keybind from an older video or patch note.
The glider carries you into a bad landing
Stop trying to gain height and steer toward the widest safe surface. Preserve Stamina for the final approach; a low bar is specifically associated with difficult landings in the release guidance. Practice from lower elevations until you understand the turn rate and momentum.
The drill removes something you wanted to keep
Back away, retarget, and work in one 2×2 section at a time. Mark the boundary of a valuable structure before activating the drill, and use a precision tool for the final edge.
The Hookshot line is unsafe
Do not fire repeatedly while moving. Reposition so the destination and landing surface are visible, then test the crossing without your most valuable items. If the current build uses a different aiming or firing action, follow that in-game control rather than an older description.
The Spyglass and Stamina behave unexpectedly
Update 7 fixed the known issue in which zooming blocked Stamina recovery. If recovery still fails, verify your game version and report the behavior through the current support channel; do not assume that the pre-fix behavior is intended.
What the official descriptions do not establish
- There is no complete, current player-facing recipe list for obtaining all five gadgets in the cited release descriptions.
- Default deployment, aiming, and firing controls are not specified for every gadget.
- The item schema documents technical tool and glider asset properties for configuration; it does not establish player controls or acquisition methods.
- None of the reviewed descriptions promises that a gadget places blocks, edits a structure, or activates a dedicated building mode.
- Durability, stamina costs, ranges, and other numeric limits should be read from the current game rather than inferred from older development notes.
Those limits are useful boundaries: they tell you which behaviors are confirmed and which must be checked in your own version before planning a dangerous trip or a large build.
Keeping your technique current
Goblin gear was presented as intentionally scrappy and subject to balance tuning. When a patch changes an animation, durability display, keybind, stamina interaction, or target behavior, repeat the low-risk test described earlier before relying on the gadget in a permanent route. Keep the Spyglass, movement tools, and drill in separate loadout positions if your interface allows it, and retain ordinary traversal and mining options as backups.
As of the October 12, 2026 Chapter I release, the practical division is clear: scout with the Spyglass, clear with the Scrap Drill, glide with the Scrap Glider, gain a short burst of height with Rocket Boots, and cross a prepared point with the Hookshot and Hook Anchors. The exact controls and acquisition path remain version-sensitive, so let the current game state determine the final input and progression details.
