To restyle a picture with Google Photos Remix, open Create, choose Remix, select a template, add a reference photo if asked, then tap Generate. When the result is ready, you can save it, share it, or regenerate it with the same template.
Before you start
Google Photos Remix is a template-based generative feature for transforming photos into styles such as anime, comics, sketches, and 3D animation. The available templates can change over time.

- The photo you use must be backed up, and your device needs a network connection.
- You must be at least 18 and signed in with a personal Google Account. Workspace and school accounts are excluded.
- Generative creation features are not available in every region, and availability can vary by location.

How to use Remix on Android
- Open Google Photos and tap Create at the bottom of the screen.
- Open Remix from the Remix your photos header, or tap Photo remix.
- If this is your first time using the feature, review the acknowledgement and tap Try now.
- Choose a featured template, tap View all to browse the catalog, or use the category labels to filter templates.
- Tap the template you want. If it asks for a reference image, tap Add photo and choose an existing photo, or take a new one with your device’s camera.
- Tap Generate. When the result appears, tap Save to keep it, Share to send it, or Regenerate to get another attempt in the same template.
Some personalized templates carry a badge and may use insights from your Google Photos library. Depending on Gemini feature eligibility, they may start generating without asking you to upload a reference image. Google’s template catalog is updated regularly, so a particular template or category may later change or disappear.

Why can’t I find Remix in Google Photos?
Not seeing Remix does not necessarily mean you have missed a setting. Access depends on eligibility and regional rollout, and the Help workflow is documented for Android. Google announced on September 24, 2026, that 15 new Remix templates were available on Android and iOS in select countries for users over 18; that announcement does not establish availability in every country or for every account. Check that you meet the age and account requirements, that your photos are backed up, and that you have a network connection. Google’s announcement of the 15 new templates describes the limited country scope.
What to expect from a generated result
Remix applies a chosen visual treatment rather than guaranteeing a faithful edit of every detail in the original image. Google Photos Help cautions: “These features may give unexpected or inaccurate results.” If an attempt is not what you wanted, try Regenerate; Google does not publish a measured success rate or a ranking of template quality.

Google says Remix-generated photos and videos include an invisible SynthID digital watermark. Its separate statement about a visible watermark applies to generated videos, not still photos. More detail is in Google’s July 2025 announcement about Remix and photo-to-video features.

Google limits the number of Remix generations available per day. Google says a Google AI plan increases that number, but its Help page does not present a paid plan as a requirement for trying Remix. If you reach the limit, you can wait for the allowance to reset or check Google’s current plan terms; the sources do not specify a fixed allowance or price.
