To search quickly, enter your route and trip details, compare nearby dates, scan both Best and Cheapest, then check the full itinerary and booking terms before you pay. Treat “under 2 minutes” as a quick workflow target, not a guaranteed or tested time: the right fare depends on your route, dates and flexibility.
Run a fast Google Flights search
- Enter your trip. Open Google Flights and fill in the departure point, destination, trip type, passenger count and cabin class. Begin with dates you could genuinely travel.
- Compare dates and airports. Use the date calendar to check nearby days and their displayed fares. If your dates are flexible, open the price graph to compare prices across weeks or months. Check the alternative-airport information only if those airports are practical for you.
- Compare result tabs. Look at both Best and Cheapest. Best weighs price and convenience; Cheapest prioritizes low prices and may include itineraries with extra trade-offs.
- Inspect the itinerary. Compare total fare, stops, journey duration, layovers, any airport changes and the booking provider. Read the provider’s final fare and conditions before committing.
- Track instead of guessing. If you are not ready to book, turn on price tracking for the route or a specific flight. With flexible dates, choose “Any dates” to receive an email if the route’s minimum price drops significantly over a month, according to Google.
How to find the cheapest dates to fly
Use the calendar first for a quick comparison of nearby departure and return dates. When you can shift a trip more widely, the price graph can reveal how displayed fares vary across a longer period. Google also provides airport information that can help compare nearby departure or arrival airports.

These tools show prices available in the search; they do not establish that a particular weekday is always cheapest. Compare dates you can actually use, and include the cost and time of reaching an alternate airport when deciding whether its fare is worthwhile. Google describes its search as comparing offers from over 300 travel partners, including airlines, online travel agencies and aggregators, but says results may not include every available offer (Google Travel Help).

It prioritizes low prices in the results Google finds; it is not a guarantee that every offer is shown or that the lowest headline fare is the best choice for your trip. Google says the tab “prioritizes low prices, and includes additional itineraries and prices from online travel agents” (Google Travel Help).

Google’s Best tab is designed to weigh price and convenience, while Cheapest prioritizes low price. Neither label replaces checking which itinerary fits your needs.
Verify the fare before booking
Selecting a result usually takes you to the airline’s or online travel agency’s website to complete the booking. Confirm that the fare and availability still match, and check baggage, add-on charges and the provider’s conditions. Google says flight prices on desktop are updated approximately once every 24 hours; that is not a guarantee the displayed fare will remain available when you book (Google Travel Help).
For changes, cancellations or service problems after booking, contact the airline or agency that sold the ticket. Google’s guidance does not support a universal rule that waiting will lower fares; use price tracking for updates rather than assuming a future price.

Track prices if you need more time
Google lets you track a route or a selected flight and can email you when its price changes significantly. For a route with flexible timing, “Any dates” can help you follow broader price movement. Tracking is an alert, not a promised discount or a guarantee that a fare will still be available when you act (Google Travel Help).
