Gemini Live is different: it lets you talk with Gemini, but it does not place a regular phone call. Choose the right mode, check what will be shared before an automated call, and use your phone’s calling app directly for emergencies.
Choose the right Gemini calling mode

Google describes the standard Phone app integration in Gemini Apps Help, “Call someone with Gemini.” Its separate “Call for me” option is documented in Gemini Apps Help, “Ask Gemini to handle your everyday phone calls.” Live conversation guidance appears in Gemini Apps Help, “Talk with Gemini Live.”

Set up standard calls on Android
Google lists an Android phone or tablet, an active mobile plan, the Gemini mobile app, saved contact information from signed-in devices, and Phone permission for the Google app as requirements. Contacts and Call Logs permissions can improve contact matching. The integration uses your device’s default phone app.

If Gemini does not select the Phone app, include @Phone in your prompt. With Keep Activity off, you can still request basic calls, but tasks that need another Google service—for example, using Maps to find a nearby business—may not work.

Ask Gemini to place a standard call
State the intended contact or destination clearly. Examples include:
- “Call [contact’s full name].”
- “Call [phone number].”
- “Call [business name].”
If you want Gemini to call a nearby business, give it the relevant context and access it needs. For example, after discussing a restaurant, ask Gemini to call the restaurant you chose. Check the selected destination before proceeding, especially when a contact or business could match more than one result.

Use “Call for me” for eligible routine business tasks
Check whether you can access it
Google’s current listed requirements are age 18 or older, location in the United States, a Pixel 11 with a US SIM, sign-in to the Gemini mobile app, a Google AI subscription, the Public Beta Phone by Google app, the latest Gemini mobile app, and English as the device language. Calls are limited to US phone numbers. Availability is rolling out gradually, so meeting the listed requirements does not guarantee that the feature has reached your account. These requirements are date-sensitive and may change.

Describe the outcome, then inspect the proposal
Tell Gemini what you want accomplished and include useful constraints, such as the date, time, party size, preferences, or acceptable alternatives. For example: “Call [Restaurant Name] and book a table for two at 7 PM tomorrow.”

- Review Gemini’s summary of the task.
- Check the phone number it proposes to call.
- Read the details it proposes to disclose, and edit the task if anything is wrong or unnecessary.
- Tap Call for me to start. You can cancel before the call connects.
Google says every call begins with Gemini identifying itself as a Google AI assistant calling on your behalf on a recorded line and stating your name. This disclosure is not a substitute for checking the number and information yourself.
Monitor, take over, and verify the result
During a call, follow the live transcript or listen to the audio. The microphone is muted by default. Tap Take over if you need to speak directly; Gemini announces the handoff and leaves the call. Review Gemini’s summary afterward, and confirm important arrangements with the business if the outcome matters. Google sets daily call limits; after reaching one, you must wait until the next day.

Keep calls within safe boundaries
- For emergencies, call directly. Use your regular phone calling app for emergency services. Google says not to use the Phone app in Gemini for emergency calls, and “Call for me” cannot call emergency services such as 911.
- Do not delegate sensitive or prohibited tasks. Google says not to use “Call for me” to make payments or complete financial transactions, share passwords, Social Security numbers, sensitive financial details or health information, or make telemarketing calls.
- Check before you approve. Confirm the destination and review what Gemini proposes to share. Interrupt or take over if the call goes off course; automated calling can make mistakes.
- Protect access from the lock screen. If you do not want calls or messages to be possible while the device is locked, turn off Make calls and send messages without unlocking in Gemini’s Gemini on lock screen setting.
- Ask permission around Live conversations. Google advises asking permission before recording other people or including them in a Gemini Live chat.
Understand what Google says happens to call data
“Call for me” data
Google’s feature-specific disclosure says transcripts are sent to and stored on Google’s servers, while call audio is not stored on Google’s servers. A copy of both the transcript and audio is saved locally in Phone by Google call history. Google says call audio recordings and transcripts are not used to train its AI models. Calling activity is available in Gemini Apps Activity, where it can be deleted; call history, transcripts, and recordings can also be deleted in Phone by Google. Google may share your name, email address, phone number, or other details needed for the task, which you review and agree to before the call begins. See Google’s “Call for me” data disclosure.
Standard calling and connected apps
For calls through connected apps, Google says Gemini may process activity, device calling and messaging logs, contact information, and device information or settings to choose an app and connect with the right person. You can disconnect supported apps in Connected Apps settings or delete activity. Google’s broader Gemini privacy terms also warn that some information users provide may be reviewed, so avoid entering confidential information. These general connected-app statements are distinct from the specific server and local storage details Google gives for “Call for me.” See Google’s Connected Apps privacy information.

Gemini Live data
Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, last updated September 24, 2026, says Live recordings and transcripts are handled under the Gemini Apps Privacy Notice and saved in Gemini Apps Activity when Keep Activity is on.
