On an Android phone, open the page in Chrome and look for Ask Gemini (or More > Ask Gemini). If it appears, ask “Summarize this page”, then tap Submit. Chrome shares the open page by default and offers Stop sharing in the chat box.
Availability is not consistent. Google’s Chrome Help documents this workflow, while a separate Gemini Help page says Gemini in Chrome is currently unavailable on Android phones and tablets. If the Chrome control is missing, use Gemini as your Android assistant and choose Ask about screen or Ask about page instead.

Google’s official documentation describes two different ways to summarize a webpage on an Android device, and the pages do not agree about Chrome-native availability.

The Android-specific Google Chrome Help guide says you can open Gemini from Chrome, share the current page, and request a summary. It also says, “We’re gradually releasing Gemini in Chrome, so it might not be available to you just yet.”

However, Google’s separate Gemini Apps Help page states: “For now, Gemini in Chrome is not available on Android phones or tablets.” Treat that as a documentation and rollout conflict, not as proof that every Android user can use the Chrome button. The control may be absent even when your phone appears to meet the listed requirements.
The practical approach is to try the Chrome workflow first. If Ask Gemini is not shown, use the Gemini mobile-assistant workflow documented by Google in What you can do with your Gemini mobile app. The fallback can analyze the screen or page currently open in Chrome without relying on the Chrome-native control.
Check the listed requirements before troubleshooting
Google Chrome Help lists the following conditions for Gemini in Chrome on Android. They are eligibility criteria from the Chrome guide, not a guarantee that the feature has reached your account.

Method 1: Summarize the open page with Chrome’s Ask Gemini
Use this method when Chrome displays an Ask Gemini control. The wording and position can vary slightly as Google rolls the feature out.
1. Open the article in a regular Chrome tab
Launch Chrome on your Android phone and navigate to the webpage you want summarized. Use the article itself, not a Google Search results page. Google says Gemini in Chrome is not accessible on Search result pages.

2. Find Ask Gemini
Look for Ask Gemini in Chrome’s interface. If it is not visible as a dedicated control, tap More (the three-dot menu) and choose Ask Gemini. If this is your first use, Chrome may display an opt-in or introductory screen; follow the on-screen instructions to continue.
3. Confirm that the current page is being shared
Chrome’s Gemini chat shares the active page by default so Gemini can use its text as context. Review the sharing indication in the chat box before submitting a request. If you do not want the page sent to Gemini, tap Stop sharing in the text box and do not ask for a page-based summary.
4. Enter a focused summary request
Type one of these prompts:
Summarize this page.Summarize the key takeaways from this article.Give me five bullet points covering the article’s main claims.Explain this article in plain language in under 150 words.
The first two formulations mirror the use case described in Google’s Chrome guide. The latter prompts add output limits or structure without changing the page context.
5. Submit and check the result
Tap Submit. Gemini will generate a response using the page shared from Chrome. Read the answer against the original article, especially when the page contains numbers, legal language, medical advice, product specifications, or opinions that could be mistaken for facts.
How page sharing works in the Chrome workflow
The Chrome-specific instructions make the active webpage the default context. That is why Gemini can discuss the article without your copying and pasting its text. The same default also means you should check what is visible before submitting.

- Interactive elements, comments, embedded documents, images, and scripts may not be represented in the summary in the same way as the main text.
- If the page contains personal information, remove it or use Stop sharing before continuing.
- Stopping sharing prevents the current page from being used for the chat request; it does not turn the conversation into a summary of content Gemini has never received.
Google’s cited Chrome instructions describe the Stop sharing control. The mobile-assistant instructions below use a different entry point and do not document an identical page-sharing control, so do not assume the privacy options are the same in both methods.

Method 2: Use Gemini as the Android assistant over Chrome
Use this route when Chrome has no Ask Gemini button, when your account has not received the Chrome rollout, or when the separate Gemini help notice applies to your device. It uses the Gemini mobile app as the Android assistant rather than a Chrome menu item.
1. Make Gemini your primary Android assistant
Set Gemini as the primary assistant through your phone’s Android assistant or default-assistant settings. The exact menu names vary by manufacturer and Android build. The requirement is that invoking the system assistant opens Gemini, not another assistant.
2. Open the webpage in Chrome
Navigate to the article you want explained. Leave the relevant page visible on screen so Gemini can act on the current screen or page context.

Invoke the assistant using your phone’s normal assistant gesture or button. In Gemini, choose Ask about screen or Ask about page, whichever appears on your device. Google’s mobile-app help identifies these actions as the way to ask about content currently displayed in another app such as Chrome.
4. Request the summary
Ask directly, for example:
Summarize the webpage I have open.What are the main points on this page?List the article’s conclusions and any numbers it cites.
Send the request and review the response. If Gemini says it cannot access the page, confirm that you selected Ask about screen or Ask about page before asking the question, then try again with the article still visible.
Chrome-native Gemini versus the mobile-assistant route
Both methods can answer questions about a webpage, but they start from different interfaces and have different documented availability.

Choose the route that actually appears on your phone. The mobile-assistant method is not a hidden way to force the Chrome feature on; it is a separately documented way to ask Gemini about what is displayed.

A one-line request is enough for a basic overview, but specifying the format helps when the article is long or technical. Ask for one task at a time and state what should be included or excluded.
For a quick scan
Summarize this page in five bullet points.Give me a 75-word overview, then name the article’s main conclusion.
For decisions
Extract the options discussed, with one advantage and one drawback for each.List every price, date, and requirement mentioned on this page.
For technical material
Explain the process step by step for a beginner, keeping all commands and version numbers.Separate facts stated by the author from recommendations or opinions.
For follow-up questions
Which claims in this article depend on a specific country, date, or software version?What information is missing that I would need to verify the conclusion?
These prompts improve structure, not factual certainty. Gemini can omit a paragraph, misunderstand a table, or infer a conclusion that the author did not state. Use the original page as the authority for details that matter.
Troubleshooting when Ask Gemini is missing
Chrome does not show the control
First confirm that you are viewing an ordinary webpage rather than Google Search results or an Incognito tab. Then sign in to Chrome, update Chrome to the latest version available for your phone, and restart Chrome. These are the troubleshooting actions Google lists for the Chrome feature.
If the control remains absent, check the eligibility table above, but remember that meeting every condition does not override the gradual rollout. Try the mobile-assistant method instead of repeatedly reinstalling Chrome.
The page is a Search results screen
Google says Gemini in Chrome is not accessible on Google Search result pages. Open one result so the article itself is displayed, then check for Ask Gemini. If you need a summary of several results, ask Gemini about each opened page separately rather than treating the results screen as an article.
You are using an unsupported account
For a work or school Google Account, an administrator must enable access to Gemini in Chrome. If your organization has not enabled it, a personal account may be the only way to test the feature, subject to Google’s region and age requirements.
Your device meets the requirements but access is still unavailable
This is consistent with Google’s gradual-release warning and with the separate Gemini help page that says Android phones and tablets are not currently supported for Gemini in Chrome. Do not change language, region, or account details solely to bypass availability rules. Use Gemini’s screen/page assistant route and check Google’s help pages later for a changed rollout status.
The summary is incomplete or wrong
Ask Gemini to identify the section it used, request a shorter extract, or ask for specific figures and dates. Scroll through the original page to check headings, footnotes, tables, and captions that may not have been reflected. For high-stakes decisions, treat the generated text as a reading aid rather than a substitute for the source.
Privacy and accuracy checks before relying on a summary
Before sharing a page through Chrome, consider whether it includes account details, private messages, personal identifiers, unpublished work, or information covered by an employer’s policy. Use the documented Stop sharing control when you do not want the active page used in the Chrome chat. With the mobile-assistant route, review the screen content and the permissions shown by Gemini before asking about it.
Summaries are lossy by design. A generated answer may leave out exceptions, quote a sentence without its qualification, or merge an author’s opinion with reported facts. Verify any claim that affects money, health, safety, legal rights, employment, or security by returning to the source and checking the surrounding paragraphs.
What to expect as Google changes the feature
The Chrome guide’s requirements, supported regions, interface labels, and rollout status can change independently of the Android Gemini app. A button that appears today may move into the More menu, while a device that meets the published hardware requirements may still wait for account-level enablement.
For that reason, use the workflow that is present on your phone rather than assuming that a tutorial written for another Android device applies to yours. The Chrome route is the most direct when enabled; the mobile-assistant route is the documented fallback when it is not.
Bottom line
To summarize a webpage, try Chrome’s Ask Gemini command, share the current page, enter a focused request, and submit it. If the command is missing, activate Gemini as your Android assistant, select Ask about screen or Ask about page, and ask for the summary. Because Google’s own Android help pages conflict and Chrome is rolling out gradually, neither route should be presented as universally available.
