To use it, you need a qualifying Google account and subscription, the latest Chrome, and an eligible US rollout. Open Ask Gemini, describe the job, review Gemini’s proposed plan, and select Start Task. Stay responsible for every action, especially sign-ins, purchases, and other irreversible steps.
What Gemini Auto Browse does
Auto Browse lets Gemini in Chrome operate across multiple web pages instead of merely answering with instructions or links. It can select sites, enter information, compare options, and progress through a workflow. Google’s examples include comparing products and adding an item to a cart, finding and booking accommodation, preparing a restaurant reservation, and scheduling an appointment.

Eligibility and requirements
Google’s current computer help guidance lists all of the following requirements:

- Your account must be eligible for the feature and opted in. Google is releasing Auto Browse gradually, so an otherwise eligible account may not show it yet.
- You need the latest desktop version of Chrome.
- English must be the device language.
- You need Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra on a personal Google Account.
- Chrome must be signed in with that personal account.
- Chrome Safe Browsing must be set to Standard or Enhanced.
Auto Browse does not work in Incognito mode. Google’s help page also says it is not available in Gemini in Chrome on iPhone or iPad. The Chrome product description identifies the feature as available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States; menus and access can differ while rollout continues.
How to start an Auto Browse task
- Open the latest version of Chrome on a computer and sign in with your personal Google Account.
- Click Ask Gemini in Chrome.
- Describe the complete task, including constraints such as budget, dates, location, quantity, preferred sites, and deal-breakers.
- Click Submit.
- Inspect Gemini’s plan. Check the sites it intends to use, the information it may share, prices, quantities, dates, and any action that could create a purchase or reservation.
- When the plan is accurate, click Start Task.
An Auto Browse icon appears on the active task tab while Gemini works. If a human action is required, Chrome displays a notification rather than silently completing that step.
Tasks that are a good fit
Comparing and shopping
Give Gemini measurable criteria: a maximum price, required specifications, acceptable brands or retailers, delivery location, quantity, and features you will not compromise on. You can ask it to compare products and place a candidate in a cart, but inspect the final item, seller, shipping charge, and return terms yourself before purchase.

Travel and reservations
Provide exact dates, destination, traveler count, room or seating requirements, accessibility needs, and a total budget. Ask it to prepare options or a booking rather than assuming the first result is suitable. Availability and prices can change while the task runs.
Repetitive forms
Auto Browse can help navigate appointment or reservation forms. State the preferred time window, location, contact details to use, and alternatives. Sensitive fields and confirmation pages deserve a personal review.
Taking control, pausing, and stopping
Take over a step
Switch to the task tab and click Take over task when you need to complete a step personally, such as a CAPTCHA, payment decision, or sensitive form field. After you finish, use Resume to let Gemini continue.

Sign-in assistance
Chrome can request permission to use Google Password Manager for sign-in assistance. Grant that permission only when you understand which site is being accessed and what information will be shared. You remain responsible for the resulting account activity.

Return control or stop
Use Give back task when you want Gemini to continue after your intervention. Select Stop, or close the task tab, to end the task. Stop immediately if the agent’s destination, item, quantity, or form data diverges from your instructions.

These are daily request figures, not a promise that every request will finish successfully. Google also says there is a limit on simultaneous multi-step tasks but does not publish the number in the cited computer help guidance. Access can differ by account, geography, device, and rollout stage.

Safety rules and practical safeguards
Google describes agentic browsing as experimental and warns that Gemini can make mistakes or unexpected decisions, including purchases. You are responsible for its actions. Before starting:
- Read the entire proposed plan and verify the target sites and intended outcome.
- Keep spending limits, dates, quantities, and cancellation requirements explicit.
- Take over sensitive steps involving passwords, payment details, identity information, or legal consent.
- Confirm the final price, seller, shipping, reservation details, and cancellation terms yourself.
- Avoid entering secrets unless the task genuinely requires them.
- Stop the task as soon as its behavior no longer matches your instructions.
Google documents safeguards for prohibited or harmful requests and permission prompts before Password Manager sign-in assistance, but those safeguards do not remove the need for supervision.

Ask Gemini or Auto Browse is missing
Confirm that Chrome is current, you are on a computer rather than Incognito, the device language is English, Safe Browsing is Standard or Enhanced, and Chrome is signed in to a personal US Google Account with Google AI Pro or Ultra. If all conditions match, the feature may simply not have reached your account because the rollout is gradual.
The task pauses
Check the task tab and Chrome notification. Gemini may be waiting for you to take over, approve a sign-in through Google Password Manager, or complete another human-only step. Use Resume after completing it, or Stop if the requested action is not safe.
The result is wrong
Take over or stop the task, correct the criteria, and start a new bounded request. Do not assume that a completed page means a purchase, reservation, price, or form submission is accurate; verify the site’s confirmation and your account activity independently.
The Bottom Line
Use Auto Browse for clearly bounded, multi-step web work—not unsupervised purchasing or account management. Meet Google’s US, age, account, subscription, Chrome, language, and Safe Browsing requirements; review the plan before starting; take over sensitive steps; and remember that Google’s documented allowance is up to 20 daily requests on AI Pro or 200 on AI Ultra, with simultaneous-task limits not publicly specified.
