What you need to know before boarding
The ride camera is a game feature, not a separate accessory. You do not need a headset, capture device, special controller or guidebook. The documented first-person ride behavior applies to supported enhanced versions of GTA V; the official material available for this feature does not provide a complete compatibility chart for every legacy edition. Button labels and ride behavior can therefore differ between platforms and versions.

- Destination: Del Perro Pier, on the west side of Los Santos.

The Xbox Game Help manual summarizes the action as: “To enter First Person Mode, press the first-person button.” Because the actual button can vary with platform and layout, rely on the control shown in your own game rather than a button name copied from another system.

- Travel to Del Perro Pier. It is the amusement pier on Los Santos’s west side. Approach the attraction on foot so the entrance interaction is easy to see.
- Choose an attraction. The Ferris Whale and Leviathan each have a gate where you can start the ride.
- Walk into the entrance area. Stop when the game displays its boarding interaction. If no prompt appears, move around the gate rather than trying to activate the ride from the beach or from a vehicle.
- Accept boarding. Once seated, wait for the ride camera and controls to become active. The camera control is available from the ride state, not while you are still walking around the pier.
- Cycle to first-person. Press the first-person or camera-view button shown by your active control layout. Press it again only if you want to cycle through another available angle.
If you cannot identify the button, pause the game and open Settings > Controls. Rockstar’s support documentation also notes that control displays can be viewed while the player is inside a vehicle; the same practical rule applies here: check the mapping on the platform and layout you are actually using.

Using first-person on the Ferris Whale
Switching views while the wheel is moving
The Ferris Whale is the more flexible choice for a first-person sightseeing ride. Once the wheel starts, you can switch between first-person and cinematic camera angles while it moves. First-person places your viewpoint in the passenger position, while the cinematic option supplies the game’s externally framed shots. Cycle the camera until the view you want appears, then leave it there for the remainder of the rotation.
What the view is good for
At the top of the wheel, first-person gives a close, passenger-level look at the pier and the Los Santos skyline. Cinematic angles are better when you want the entire gondola or wheel structure in frame. You can change between them without leaving the ride, so the Ferris Whale is the practical option when experimenting with camera controls or recording several types of footage.
Fare in Story Mode
An All Things How ride guide lists the Story Mode Ferris Whale fare as $8. The guide’s publication year is not stated, so treat that amount as the documented Story Mode figure rather than a guaranteed price for every edition, update or mode.

Why the control behaves differently
The Leviathan is not simply a faster version of the Ferris Whale. The available ride guide reports that the game does not let the player change camera view during the coaster’s run. In practice, select the view you want when the ride allows it, then expect the coaster sequence to control the camera once the train launches.

Planning before the ride starts
If first-person is the goal, set your preferred camera mode before the Leviathan begins its run and watch for the boarding prompt’s control hint. If the camera becomes fixed after departure, repeatedly pressing the view button will not create a new angle; that is the ride’s restriction, not necessarily a faulty controller.
Fare in Story Mode
The same guide lists a $15 Story Mode fare for the Leviathan. As with the Ferris Whale amount, the source does not state a publication year, and no universal price guarantee is established for every release.

The key distinction is camera freedom, not merely speed. A camera button that works on the Ferris Whale may appear to do nothing on the Leviathan because the coaster sequence does not permit mid-run switching.
Find the correct camera control on your platform
Use the in-game mapping instead of a universal button list
First-person controls are platform- and layout-dependent. Open the pause menu, choose Settings, then Controls to inspect the active mapping. Look for the command identified as the first-person, camera or view control. The label you see is the authoritative one for your current controller configuration.

Check the prompt after you are seated
Boarding prompts can show a context-specific control. Read the prompt after the character enters the gondola or coaster train, because a control shown while walking may not describe the ride camera. If the prompt disappears, pause and return to the controls page rather than guessing.
Separate camera mode from look controls
Camera mode changes the viewpoint; look or aim sensitivity changes how quickly the viewpoint moves after you are in first-person. Adjusting sensitivity will not unlock the Leviathan’s restricted camera, and changing the view button will not alter field of view or head bobbing.
Tune first-person comfort in Settings
Rockstar’s settings documentation places the relevant options in the pause menu. The names below describe the controls worth comparing when the ride looks too narrow, moves too much or behaves differently on foot and in vehicles.

Field of view controls how much of the scene is visible horizontally. A wider setting can show more of the pier and surroundings, while a narrower setting can feel more focused. Change it in small increments and test the result before boarding again. This option is specifically named for on-foot first-person viewing, so do not assume it will change every ride or vehicle camera.

Look and aim sensitivity
Sensitivity determines how far the camera turns for a given stick or mouse movement. Lower it if small inputs make the view swing around; raise it if turning feels sluggish. Sensitivity affects control speed, not the ride’s own animation or camera lock.
First Person Head Bobbing
Head bobbing adds simulated movement to walking and first-person motion. If the ride or surrounding movement makes you uncomfortable, reduce or disable this effect where the setting is available. Because the option is an effect toggle rather than a ride selector, its impact can vary by scene.
First Person Ragdoll
This option controls the camera behavior when the character enters a ragdoll state. It is not a way to force first-person on the Leviathan, but changing it can prevent an unexpected viewpoint shift during gameplay outside the ride.
First Person Combat Roll
Combat-roll camera behavior is separate from the amusement-ride camera. Tune it only if you also use first-person during combat; it does not provide additional Ferris Whale or Leviathan angles.
Allow Independent Camera Modes
Independent camera modes let you keep first-person on foot while using third-person in vehicles, or the reverse. This is useful when you want to explore the pier on foot in first-person but drive there with a different view. It does not override a ride’s own camera restrictions, and it does not guarantee identical behavior across editions.

- Set independent modes first. Decide whether your on-foot and vehicle views should be controlled separately, then enable or disable Allow Independent Camera Modes accordingly.
- Choose a manageable field of view. Adjust the first-person on-foot field of view in small steps instead of making a large change immediately.
- Reduce unwanted motion. Compare head-bobbing behavior and lower it if the moving ride feels disorienting.
- Set look sensitivity. Use a level that lets you inspect the pier without overshooting your target.
- Review ragdoll and combat-roll behavior. These options affect other first-person situations, so set them to match your normal play style before returning to the pier.
- Test on the Ferris Whale. Because its camera can be switched during motion, it is the safer place to verify that the first-person command and comfort settings are working.
- Board the Leviathan only after confirming the view. Its camera may remain fixed once the run begins.
Troubleshooting when first-person does not work
No boarding prompt appears
- Move directly to the attraction’s gate and approach on foot.
- Make sure you are at the Del Perro Pier attraction rather than standing near the beach or in a vehicle.
- Look for the interaction prompt before pressing the camera control; the view command cannot board the ride by itself.
The camera button does nothing
- Pause and verify the active mapping under Settings > Controls.
- Try the command after the character is seated, when the ride camera is active.
- Check whether you are on the Leviathan after its run has started; the documented behavior is that its camera cannot be changed during the ride.
The view is uncomfortable
- Lower first-person head bobbing if the movement feels excessive.
- Adjust field of view gradually rather than switching from one extreme to another.
- Reduce look or aim sensitivity if the view turns too quickly.
- Use independent camera modes to keep first-person only in the situations where it feels useful.
The ride looks different from a video or guide
Confirm the game edition, platform and controller layout. The official documentation retrieved for this feature covers enhanced versions and includes an Xbox manual, but it does not establish an edition-by-edition matrix for every legacy release. Differences in prompts, mappings or camera behavior may therefore be version-specific.
Which ride should you choose?
Choose the Ferris Whale when camera control matters most
It is the better first-person demonstration because you can switch between the passenger view and cinematic angles while the wheel is moving. You can also spend more time observing the skyline and pier without the rapid changes of a coaster.
