A practical rule is to use search and transcript tools before visual effects. They reduce the amount of footage you need to watch; effects do not.

1. Index a large project before you start cutting
Run AI Media Analysis
Open a Filmora 16 project and import the source footage and images. Use AI Media Analysis on the assets you expect to search. Filmora analyzes media for subjects, scenes, locations, and actions, then creates tags, descriptions, and scores. This turns a media bin into a searchable index instead of a list of filenames.
- Open or create the project and import the camera files, recordings, stills, and other source assets.
- Select the media you want indexed and start AI Media Analysis.
- Wait for the analysis to finish before judging search results; partially analyzed assets may not have the full set of tags or descriptions.
- Open AI Smart Search and enter a natural description such as a subject, location, action, or line of dialogue.
- Preview the returned clips, mark the useful shots, and place only those candidates on the working timeline.
Search is most useful when the project contains hours of interviews, event coverage, screen recordings, or mixed camera cards. It is a discovery aid, not a substitute for watching the selected shot. Verify that the correct person, take, and moment appear before building an edit around a result.
Make the index work for your naming system
Use concrete descriptions rather than abstract requests. “Person in red jacket entering warehouse” gives the search system more to match than “good b-roll.” Combine visual terms with spoken words when you remember both. Keep the original files untouched so you can return to a clean source if an automatically selected clip is wrong.
2. Build a transcript rough cut and remove silence
Open AI Text-Based Editing
For spoken footage, transcript editing is usually faster than dragging every pause on the timeline. Select a spoken clip and open AI Text-Based Editing from the main menu, the timeline toolbar, the Smart Edit Tool, or Tools > Audio. Choose the language and let Filmora transcribe the clip.
- Select the interview, presentation, podcast, or narration clip.
- Open AI Text-Based Editing using one of the available paths.
- Choose the spoken language and start transcription.
- Search the transcript for a word or phrase to jump to every relevant passage.
- Remove unwanted sentences or passages in the transcript to create the initial cut.
- Use Delete all silent clips when the recording contains long pauses, dead air, or empty sections that should not remain.
- Apply the transcript edit, then watch the resulting timeline from before each cut through the next complete thought.
Transcript cuts are a rough edit. A technically correct deletion can still remove a facial reaction, a question from an off-camera interviewer, a breath that makes the delivery natural, or a transition needed for comprehension. Check the waveform and the picture around every automatic cut, and restore a short pause when the pacing becomes rushed.
Correct the transcript before relying on it
Names, specialist terms, accents, crosstalk, and low-volume speech are common trouble spots. If a search misses a phrase, try a distinctive neighboring word and locate the passage visually. Do not assume that a clean-looking transcript means the audio is accurate; the transcript is an editing interface, not a final caption file.

3. Turn long footage into social clips with Smart Short Clips
Generate several candidates
Smart Short Clips is designed for a first pass from long-form material. Open it from the Filmora home page, Filmora Cloud, or Toolbox. You can upload a local file, enter your own YouTube URL, or select a file stored in Filmora Cloud.

- Set the source language.
- Choose the target duration, visual theme, and aspect ratio for the destination platform.
- Enable optional Smart BGM if you want the tool to propose background music.
- Add topic keywords. Specific keywords help the system select relevant animations and moments instead of treating the whole source as equally important.
- Generate multiple candidates rather than accepting the first result.
- Select the strongest candidate and open it in the editor for correction.
Generating alternatives is useful because “best moment” is an editorial decision. One version may have the strongest hook, while another preserves a complete explanation or a better reaction shot.
Repair the candidate in the editor
In the Smart Short Clips editor, refine captions by selecting text or working from a timecode. Correct wording, split or merge lines when the reading rhythm requires it, and change the text styling to match your channel. Edit or remove stickers that obscure faces, products, or subtitles. Check the automatic crop at the beginning, middle, and end of the clip, especially when the speaker moves.
Use Text-to-Speech when a voiceover is needed, but listen for pronunciation of names, acronyms, and technical vocabulary. Create or adjust the thumbnail rather than accepting a frame with a closed mouth, blurred motion, or unreadable text. The editor also documents AI Speech Enhancement as an option beyond basic denoising; compare the processed voice with the original so enhancement does not introduce a metallic or pumping sound.
Do the human pass before export
- Read every caption aloud at the actual display size.
- Confirm that the opening seconds explain why the viewer should continue.
- Check that cuts do not remove the setup or the answer to a question.
- Verify logos, colors, fonts, and safe margins against your channel standards.
- Watch the full clip with sound and once without sound to catch both audio and visual problems.
4. Use AI Mate instead of hunting through menus
Open AI Mate from the timeline when you know the result you want but not the location of the control. The assistant has separate modes with different roles.

Action mode
Action mode can execute supported commands, including denoising, screen recording, freeze frames, and generating hook or end-screen clips. State the intended target explicitly, such as the selected interview clip or the current timeline range. After the command runs, inspect which clip changed and whether the generated element landed on the intended track.

Guide mode
Guide mode answers questions phrased like “How do I…?” and points to the relevant control. Use it when you need instructions rather than an automatic edit. Follow the directions in the interface, then confirm the setting yourself; a guide response does not change the project.
AIGC and Inspiration to Video
AIGC and Inspiration to Video turn prompts into scripts or generated media. Treat the output as a draft. Check factual statements in a script, inspect generated visuals for unwanted details, and make sure the tone fits the intended audience. Keep generated elements on separate tracks where possible so they remain easy to replace.
AI Mate is a shortcut to a known operation, not an authority over your edit. Before continuing, verify the selected media, parameters, duration, and every new timeline item.
5. Fill short gaps with AI Extend
Generate a controlled continuation
AI Extend is intended for a short continuation of an existing shot. Place the playhead at the gap or select the clip, open AI Extend, choose a forward or backward extension, and describe the continuation you want.
- Place the playhead at the exact boundary or select the clip to extend.
- Open AI Extend and choose forward or backward direction.
- Describe the desired action, camera movement, atmosphere, or transition in specific terms.
- Choose the available output setting. In the Stock Media flow, the guide documents 720p and 1080p choices.
- Generate the extension and compare its first and last frames with the original clip.
- Move the generated rectangle clip into position and trim it like any other media.
The documented workflow describes approximately 5–8 seconds of video extension and 10–30 seconds of audio extension. Those figures describe the feature’s duration settings, not a guarantee of processing speed or visual quality. Use the result for breathing room, a transition, or a short intro or outro. A deliberate reshoot is still the better choice when the missing action carries important meaning.
Finish the generated segment
The generated clip remains movable and editable. Add keyframes, effects, and transitions if they help it sit naturally beside the source. Look for changes in lighting, hands, text, faces, reflections, and object geometry. If continuity is distracting, shorten the segment, cover it with b-roll, or remove it instead of trying to hide a bad generation with more effects.

6. Correct captions and translate after the picture edit is stable
Use Smart Text Correction
Smart Text Correction can flag supported speech-to-text and caption errors and apply one-click corrections. Add names, product terms, and specialist vocabulary to its custom dictionary before a final caption pass. Review each suggested change: a correction that is linguistically plausible can still be wrong for a person’s name or a deliberately quoted phrase.

Do translation only after the edit, timing, and on-screen text are stable. Changing the picture later can invalidate subtitle timing and voice synchronization.
- Import the final video or audio.
- Open AI Video Translation.
- Select the target language and translation mode.
- Choose whether to generate synchronized subtitles, translated audio, or both.
- Generate the translation and preview the subtitle and audio tracks together.
- Correct names, idioms, technical terms, line breaks, and timing.
- Export only after listening to the complete translated track and reading every subtitle.
The guide documents Lip Sync for videos under five minutes when both voice translation and caption translation are selected. That duration condition matters: do not assume the option applies to longer videos or to a voice-only translation. Lip movement, pauses, and emphasis still need a visual check after generation.
7. Apply enhancement, masks, and tracking selectively
Compare AI Video Enhancer with the original
Use AI Video Enhancer for footage that is blurry, noisy, low-resolution, or dark. Compare the processed result against the original at the delivery size before committing. Enhancement models can improve perceived clarity, but they are not a guaranteed restoration of detail that was never recorded. Watch faces, fine text, hair, foliage, and moving edges for halos or invented texture.
Target a region with Color Mask
Color Mask isolates a face, sky, background, or another area so you can perform targeted color work. Inspect the mask while the subject moves and refine its boundary when skin, hair, translucent objects, or similarly colored backgrounds are included accidentally. A smaller, accurate correction is safer than a broad grade that changes the entire frame.
Track a moving subject with Camera Tracking
Camera Tracking keeps a person, pet, product, or custom target in frame without manual keyframes. Select a target with clear visual detail, run the track, and scrub through the entire shot. Correct or replace the track if the target is briefly hidden, passes behind another object, or resembles the background. Tracking saves setup time, but it does not remove the need to check drift at cuts and fast motion.
8. A review checklist that prevents fast mistakes
AI accelerates generation and selection; it also moves errors earlier in the process. Use this checklist before delivery:
- Media: Confirm every selected shot comes from the intended take and retains the required resolution and frame rate.
- Edits: Watch transcript cuts and silence removals with enough context to catch missing reactions and abrupt pacing.
- Captions: Check spelling, names, punctuation, line length, timing, and placement on both desktop and mobile-sized previews.
- Translation: Compare the translated meaning with the original, then listen for pronunciation and timing.
- Generated media: Inspect faces, hands, text, reflections, continuity, and synthetic voice artifacts.
- Enhancement: Toggle the original and processed versions to ensure noise reduction or sharpening has not created new defects.
- Branding: Replace unwanted stickers, verify thumbnail text, and check logos, colors, and safe areas.
- Reversibility: Keep the source media and a duplicate project until the exported file has passed review.
9. Troubleshoot by working backward from the failure
Search returns irrelevant clips
Check that AI Media Analysis finished for the assets, then use more concrete subject, location, action, or dialogue terms. Preview the full shot rather than trusting a thumbnail. If the index still misses the moment, locate it through the transcript or a manual timeline search and keep the source clip available.
The transcript cut sounds unnatural
Undo the broad deletion, restore the surrounding sentence, and make a shorter edit on the timeline. Leave a brief pause when it carries emphasis or lets the viewer process information. Use silence removal for dead air, not for every breath.
A Smart Short Clip feels incoherent
Generate another candidate with clearer topic keywords or a different duration and theme. Then rebuild the opening, restore missing context, and remove stickers or animations that compete with the speaker. Automatic selection is a starting point, not a finished story.
An extension or enhancement looks artificial
Shorten or remove the generated segment, try a simpler prompt, or cover the transition with a cutaway. For enhancement, lower the intervention or retain the original if fine detail and motion look worse after processing.
Translation or captions contain errors
Run Smart Text Correction with a custom dictionary for recurring terms, then edit the generated subtitle and audio tracks manually. Check the target-language spelling of names and technical words and replay the affected time range before exporting.
10. An efficient end-to-end order
- Duplicate the project and organize the source media.
- Run AI Media Analysis and use AI Smart Search to find likely shots.
- Use AI Text-Based Editing to transcribe spoken clips, make the rough cut, and remove clearly unwanted silence.
- Review the timeline edit for meaning and pacing.
- Use Smart Short Clips to generate several social candidates from the approved long-form material.
- Correct captions, branding, stickers, voiceover, music, crop, and thumbnails in the candidate editor.
- Use AI Mate for supported commands or guidance when a menu is hard to find, then inspect every change.
- Use AI Extend only for short, non-critical gaps and finish the generated segment with normal timeline tools.
- Apply enhancement, Color Mask, and Camera Tracking only where they solve a visible problem.
- Run Smart Text Correction, then translate after the picture edit is locked.
- Complete the audio, caption, translation, generated-media, and export checks before publishing.
This order puts high-volume discovery and rough cutting first, preserves the most reversibility, and delays synthetic media and localization until there is a stable edit to review.
