FFmpeg can loop and send media; it does not schedule a YouTube event for IST.
The command below is a starting structure, not a tested, production-ready recipe. You must match media compatibility, YouTube’s ingest settings, machine capacity, and the event’s timing, then verify each stream in YouTube Live Control Room.

What you need for each channel
Treat every channel as a separate output with its own event credentials and playlist. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the event’s server URL and stream key: YouTube’s encoder guide says to enter these into the encoder to start streaming.
Recommended Free Tools
- Live streaming enabled on each YouTube channel, with a live event created or scheduled for each broadcast.
- The server URL and stream key for each specific event, kept paired with the correct channel’s process.
- A playlist text file for each channel and media files accessible to the host running FFmpeg.
- An FFmpeg build that includes the protocols and encoders you plan to use. Check the installed build with
ffmpeg -version. - A scheduler capable of using an explicit timezone, configured for
Asia/Kolkata. - Sufficient upload bandwidth and CPU or GPU capacity for all concurrent outputs.
Find the event’s credentials in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Interface labels can change; YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains managing stream settings and keys. A stream key is a credential: do not publish it in a script, tutorial, command transcript, or log. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.

Prepare compatible playlist files
Create one concat-demuxer list per channel, with one file entry per line. For example, channel-a.txt might contain:
file '/media/channel-a/episode-01.mp4'
file '/media/channel-a/episode-02.mp4'
Use paths that exist on the machine running FFmpeg, and account for spaces, apostrophes, and other characters in filenames. The list format and its path-safety rules are documented in FFmpeg’s documentation.
Check stream compatibility before concatenating
The concat demuxer reads compatible files in sequence; it is not an automatic format converter. FFmpeg requires listed files to have the same streams, codecs, and time base. Differences in audio or video stream layout, codec, or timing can make the sequence fail or behave unexpectedly. See the concat demuxer documentation and FFmpeg FAQ.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If sources differ, either prepare normalized versions with matching stream properties or build a concat-filter workflow that decodes and re-encodes as needed. A filter-based pipeline can handle more varied inputs, but requires deliberate choices about resolution, frame rate, audio layout, and encoding. Test the actual files before scheduling a live event.
Start one looping FFmpeg process per channel
For each channel, use that channel’s list and its own YouTube output endpoint. This schematic loops the concat input and sends it as a live output:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i channel-a.txt
-c:v libx264 -c:a aac -f flv "$CHANNEL_A_INGEST_URL"
This example is illustrative, not a tested universal command. It leaves important production settings—such as resolution, frame rate, bitrates, GOP length, audio handling, and the precise ingest URL—to be selected for your source files and YouTube event. Verify that your FFmpeg build supports the chosen encoders and protocol.

Use stream copy only when the sources already fit
Stream copy avoids decoding and re-encoding, reducing processing load, but it is suitable only when the existing streams are compatible with the concat input and acceptable to YouTube. If you need to standardize mixed media, resize, change frame rate, or otherwise transform the signal, transcode instead. Transcoding consumes more compute and may affect image or audio quality; test on the target host rather than assuming a machine can handle a given number of streams.
Set YouTube-compatible output parameters
YouTube’s encoder settings specify RTMP or RTMPS ingest, H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Configure the encoder to the event’s server URL and key, and select output resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and audio settings appropriate to the source and current YouTube guidance.
Do not place a real stream key directly in a command that may be stored in shell history, exposed in process listings, or copied into logs. Use a protected secrets mechanism appropriate to your operating system and deployment. Use -safe 0 only when needed for paths that the concat demuxer otherwise rejects, and only with a playlist file you trust; it relaxes path safety restrictions.
Repeat with distinct credentials and lists
Start a separate process for every channel, pairing each process with that channel’s playlist and event credentials. Keep the configurations isolated so a channel cannot accidentally receive another channel’s playlist or stream key. YouTube’s per-event encoder URL-and-key workflow is the basis for this setup; do not assume a single FFmpeg process or key will independently manage several channel events.
Schedule launches in Asia/Kolkata time
Playlist looping and clock-time scheduling are separate tasks. -stream_loop -1 repeats media; it does not start an event at a particular time or interpret an “IST” label. Use a scheduler that accepts a timezone, set it explicitly to Asia/Kolkata, and configure an independent job or process definition for each channel when their playlists or start times differ.
Confirm the host clock and the scheduler’s configured timezone. Do not rely on an ambiguous abbreviation such as IST when configuring a scheduler; use the named timezone. The FFmpeg and YouTube documentation cited here does not define native IST scheduling for playlist rotation. Test the scheduler’s behavior in your environment and confirm that the YouTube event is ready for the encoder before the planned start.

Plan bandwidth and compute for concurrent streams
Estimate outbound bandwidth by adding the target video and audio bitrates for every stream running at once. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload headroom beyond stream bitrate needs in its streaming tips. For example, if concurrent outputs together require a given bitrate, provision upload capacity above that aggregate rather than sizing the connection for one channel alone.
Encoding demand depends on whether you copy compatible streams or transcode them, as well as on resolution, frame rate, codecs, and the host’s hardware. There is no universal channel-count limit that applies to every machine or connection. Measure the actual workload and leave capacity for network variation and other processes. If upload stability or capacity is inadequate, address that before adding concurrent outputs.
Test each event and monitor the stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the event for each channel and confirm its ingest URL and key.
- Check that each channel’s playlist paths resolve and that the listed files have compatible streams, or use a tested normalization/filter workflow.
- Start each process early enough to inspect the event’s preview before the planned broadcast.
- Verify video movement, audio, stream health, and YouTube’s status messages in Live Control Room.
- Check that the host has sufficient outbound capacity and that each process remains active during the run.
- Review the scheduler’s timezone and launch time before relying on an unattended start.
YouTube recommends testing, checking the preview and stream health, and starting the encoder ahead of the event. Its streaming tips advise setting up well in advance; its encoder settings guidance also emphasizes monitoring stream status.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTroubleshoot common failures
FFmpeg reports concat errors or stops between files
Check that every file path exists and is quoted correctly in the list. Then compare the files’ stream layouts, codecs, and time bases. If they do not match, normalize them or use a filter-based concat pipeline that re-encodes to common properties; the demuxer will not harmonize them automatically.
YouTube does not receive the stream
Confirm that the process uses the correct event’s server URL and stream key, and that live streaming is enabled for the channel. Check the encoder output for connection errors and inspect Live Control Room for status messages. If the key may have been exposed or is no longer valid, manage or reset it using YouTube’s stream settings.
The stream is unstable when several channels run together
Recalculate the combined target bitrate and compare it with available upload capacity, keeping YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. If the connection has room, inspect CPU or GPU load—especially when transcoding—and test each output configuration under concurrent load.

The stream starts at the wrong time
Check the scheduler job’s timezone setting and host clock. Set the timezone to Asia/Kolkata, not an ambiguous abbreviation, and verify the job’s next scheduled run before the event. FFmpeg’s loop option does not provide wall-clock scheduling.
Copyright, event archiving, and channel rules
Streaming a playlist does not grant permission to use its contents. Make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast every video and audio track, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization rules for your channel and content. Do not assume that looping or changing the presentation makes third-party material permissible.
YouTube’s encoder guide states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; because platform behavior and event settings can change, confirm the current behavior for the specific channel and event in YouTube’s encoder instructions. Plan separately for recordings longer than that threshold rather than assuming they will be archived in the same way.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a host, scheduler, FFmpeg processes, and network connection is the part you want to avoid, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud. The setup is three steps: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, and the service can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
