To loop a prerecorded meditation video on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, use -stream_loop -1 before the input file and -re to read that file at its normal playback rate. Then send the encoded output to the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Test the preview, audio and stream health before leaving it running: looping the file does not guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
What you need before you start
- A meditation video file that plays correctly, with audio you intend to stream (or silence, if that suits the stream).
- FFmpeg installed with the encoder and network protocol you plan to use. Check your build if an encoder or RTMPS connection is unavailable.
- A YouTube Live stream configured in Live Control Room, where you can copy its server URL and stream key.
- Reliable upload bandwidth sufficient for the stream, with room for other network traffic.
Decide your output resolution and frame rate before choosing a bitrate. The correct bitrate depends on codec, resolution and frame rate; there is no single setting for every YouTube stream.
Prepare YouTube Live and protect your stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream.
- Copy the server URL and stream key displayed for that stream. Use the RTMPS address when your FFmpeg build and the endpoint support it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP: YouTube encoder settings.
- Keep the key private. It allows an encoder to send a feed to your stream; do not put it in a public script, screenshot or post. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update your encoder.
In the command below, replace the destination placeholder with the exact server URL and key YouTube provides. Do not publish a real key.
Choose bitrate, frame rate and keyframes
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265 or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution and frame rate; check the current table before choosing settings: YouTube’s encoder settings.

These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees of picture quality or connection stability. The example command uses 6 Mbps video, which matches YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 720p30—not 1080p30. If you choose another output, select its matching row and adjust the command accordingly. For a GOP-size setting, use about twice the frame rate for a two-second interval: at 30 fps, -g 60; at 60 fps, -g 120.
Run FFmpeg in a paced, infinite loop
This is an illustrative starting point for H.264 at 30 fps. It is not a tested command or a universal bitrate prescription; confirm that your file, FFmpeg build and YouTube stream configuration support the choices.

-f flv 'rtmps://YOUTUBE_SERVER/YOUR_STREAM_KEY'-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely. It belongs before the corresponding-i.-rereads the file at its native frame rate, pacing it for live output instead of letting FFmpeg read the file as quickly as possible. FFmpeg documents it as useful when output packet timing matters. Use it for this file input, not blindly on a true live capture input; FFmpeg warns that low read-rate settings on actual live inputs can cause packet loss. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation.-c:v libx264selects the H.264 encoder;-b:vand-maxrateset the target and cap, while-bufsizecontrols the rate-control buffer. Confirmlibx264is available in your build.-pix_fmt yuv420pselects a widely supported pixel format.-g 60is a 60-frame GOP, or two seconds at 30 fps.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100encodes AAC audio at the shown bitrate and sample rate. If your source has no audio stream, this audio setup may need to be changed; test the actual file rather than assuming it will work unchanged.-f flvuses the output format commonly used for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. The quoted final argument must be replaced with the exact URL and key from Live Control Room.
If your target is H.264 1080p30, for example, YouTube’s recommended video bitrate is 10 Mbps (YouTube Help encoder-settings table, accessed 2026-10-03); change the video rate-control values to fit that target, rather than retaining the example’s 6 Mbps. Also make sure the source or your chosen encoding settings produce the intended resolution and frame rate. The sample command does not explicitly scale or set output frame rate.
Check bandwidth and test before going unattended
- Estimate the stream’s total bitrate and run an upload speed test. YouTube says not to exceed available upload bandwidth; its streaming tips recommend 20% headroom beyond the combined primary and backup bitrate. Leave additional practical margin for other devices and changing network conditions: YouTube streaming tips.
- Start FFmpeg and open the Live Control Room preview. Check the image, audio, stream health and any warnings or errors. Confirm that the public or scheduled watch page opens as expected.
- Test with motion and audio representative of the actual meditation video. Listen through a loop boundary as well as the middle of the clip.
- If you have configured a backup encoder, test its failover before relying on it; YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing backup failover.
- Only after these checks should you leave the process running for the intended duration. The loop flag keeps repeating the input, but does not keep FFmpeg, the host, network or YouTube ingest available by itself.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer stream will be archived in full; see YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

What happens at the loop boundary
When the file ends, FFmpeg starts it again; that does not make the picture or sound transition seamless. Listen and watch the join in the preview. A secondary FFmpeg technical guide notes that stream-copy looping assumes the source begins on a keyframe and that audio/video length mismatch can contribute to pauses. Treat those as reasons to inspect the specific file, not as proof that re-encoding will fix every join. If the cut is distracting, edit the source to make a smoother ending and beginning, then test the revised file.
Troubleshoot common failures

Copyright, reused content and monetization
A looping meditation video is not automatically compliant, monetizable or prohibited based on the fact that it loops. YouTube requires live-stream content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube’s encoder setup documentation says YouTube Partner Program creators can monetize live streams, but eligibility and content suitability depend on current program rules. Check the current policies and rights for both the visuals and music; do not assume that a loop itself grants permission or guarantees monetization: YouTube encoder setup.
