First check that the archive actually offers the End screen control: YouTube’s guidance covers end screens on videos but does not guarantee that every livestream archive has this option.
Check whether the stream has an archive you can edit
End screens are added to a video in YouTube Studio, not configured as a persistent overlay on a live broadcast. After ending the stream, find its archive in Studio under Content (live content can also be accessed from the Live tab). Open the video and look for Editor in the left menu, then check for End screen.
YouTube documents archive management and end-screen editing separately; it does not promise that the End screen option appears on every livestream archive. If you do not see it for the archive, the documented guidance does not provide an archive-specific workaround. A separately edited and uploaded video may be a practical alternative, but it is not an established official archive workflow.
Plan around the archive limit
A 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as one guaranteed, complete replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup. An end screen can only help with a video that exists and exposes the relevant editor controls.

Add a video or playlist end screen
- Open the archive: In YouTube Studio, go to Content, open the completed live video, and choose Editor from the left menu.
- Open the end-screen controls: Select End screen. If this control is absent, do not assume the archive supports end screens.
- Add the next-watch element: Choose Video to feature a recent upload, a viewer-relevant choice selected by YouTube, or a specific video. Choose Playlist when the viewer should continue through a related sequence; the playlist must be public.
- Set timing and placement: Position the element in the final portion of the video and place it where it will not cover important picture content.
- Preview and save: Check how the end screen looks and behaves in the preview, then save your changes.
Choose the right destination and placement
One video or a playlist?
Use a specific video when there is one clear next step, such as a related guide or another installment. Use a playlist when viewers are likely to want several consecutive videos. YouTube also offers subscribe, channel, and—when eligible—external website elements. For a channel trying to move replay viewers deeper into its own catalog, a relevant video or playlist is the most direct handoff.
Timing, duration, and element limits
- End screens can appear only in the final 5–20 seconds of a video.
- The video must be at least 25 seconds long.
- Standard 16:9 videos can have up to four elements. Other aspect ratios may have a lower limit.
Keep the end-screen area visually clear during the ending if possible. That gives viewers room to notice the recommendation without obscuring the stream’s final image or message.

Understand when viewers may not see it
Having an end screen saved does not mean every viewer will see it. End screens are unavailable on videos set as made for kids, and YouTube also identifies the YouTube Music app, Flash videos, mobile web, and 360 videos as unavailable contexts. Viewers can hide end screens, and display may differ by device and context.
Measure whether the handoff is working
After the end screen has had time to receive views, open the video’s Engagement analytics and check End screen element click rate. Channel-level Analytics also includes cards for top end-screen element types and videos by end-screen activity. Use those results to decide whether a specific video or a playlist is the more useful destination for your audience.

Use Live Redirect for a different kind of handoff
If the goal is to move viewers at the end of a live event to another live stream or a Premiere, consider YouTube’s separate Live Redirect feature. Live Redirect is not the same as an end screen: it hands a live audience to another live destination when a stream ends, while an end screen is configured on a video. For a completed stream archive, use the Studio Editor workflow only if its End screen option is available.
