The practical workflow is to create and verify an archive, add the end screen in YouTube Studio, and then check its click rate alongside broader channel analytics. A continuous 24/7 broadcast may not produce a complete archive: YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Can you add an end screen to a YouTube live stream?
Not as a documented overlay on the live broadcast itself. You add an end screen to a video in YouTube Studio’s Editor. For a livestream, that means editing its archive after the stream ends and after YouTube has created the video. If there is no archive—or the archive is incomplete—an end screen cannot bridge viewers from the missing portion.

This distinction matters especially for a 24/7 stream. YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume that one uninterrupted day-long broadcast will yield a complete, editable archive. If the end screen is part of your post-stream plan, use manageable sessions, confirm that each archive exists and is complete, and consider keeping a local recording as a backup. Session segmentation is a practical response to YouTube’s archive warning, not a guarantee of channel growth.
How to add an end screen to a live stream archive
- Open the archive: In YouTube Studio, go to Content and select the stream archive you want to edit. First confirm that the archive was captured and that its ending is present.
- Open the editor: Choose Editor, then select End Screen.
- Add and arrange elements: Add a relevant video or playlist, a Subscribe element, another channel, or—if you are in the YouTube Partner Program—an external website. A standard 16:9 video can have up to four elements; other aspect ratios may allow fewer.
- Set timing and preview: Adjust when and where the elements appear, then preview the ending. YouTube recommends considering the last 20 seconds when editing. Leave enough time and uncluttered screen space for the prompt, and use a clear spoken or on-screen call to action.
- Save and review: Save the edit. Then check that video’s Analytics > Engagement report for End screen element click rate.
Choose destinations that make sense as the viewer’s next step. A related video can answer a question raised by the stream; a playlist can offer more of the same subject; and a Subscribe prompt may suit someone who has not subscribed yet. YouTube’s guidance is to “Feature elements that are relevant to the video.” Viewers can hide end screens, and they do not appear in some contexts, including mobile web (except iPad mobile web), YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, Flash videos, and 360 videos. End screens are unavailable when a video is set as Made for Kids.

Make the archive useful beyond its end screen
YouTube’s live-promotion guidance says archives are automatically uploaded by default. It recommends setting archive visibility to Public to increase future reach, organizing archives and highlights into playlists, and making suitable clips available. These are recommendations, not a promise that any one tactic will grow views. Check visibility and archive completeness before relying on a recording to bring in viewers after the broadcast.
If an archive is missing or cut short, its end screen cannot send viewers onward from material that was never captured. A local recording gives you a separate copy to retain, though it does not change whether YouTube captured the livestream archive.

How to tell whether end screens are helping
Start with the individual archive’s End screen element click rate in Analytics > Engagement. Compare relevant archives and destinations rather than treating a single result as proof that the end screen caused a change in views or subscriptions.

Traffic sources and search terms can show how viewers found the stream or archive. Compare like with like—streams with similar subjects and formats—because these metrics describe the wider viewer journey and do not isolate the end screen’s effect. YouTube says analytics for vertical streams are available after 24 hours.
