At an Obelisk or Tek Transmitter, upload your survivor, place transferable items in ARK Data, and upload eligible nearby tames from the Creatures tab. Join the destination map in that same cluster, download the survivor, then recover the stored items and creatures before their upload expires.
Godlike.Host offers hosted ARK: Survival Ascended servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
The system is not a universal bridge between every ASA server. Cluster membership, PvE/PvP mode, official/unofficial status, map rules, and administrator restrictions all determine whether a transfer will work.

What CrossARK transfers actually do
A CrossARK transfer separates your character and selected assets from one map and makes them available for download on another map in the same approved cluster. It is useful when a cluster contains, for example, a primary building map, a resource map, and a map with different creature spawns. You can move between those maps without starting a new survivor, provided the servers share the required cluster configuration and allow the transfer.
There are three practical transfer categories:
- Survivor: your character data is uploaded with Upload Survivor and downloaded after you join the destination server.
- Items: objects are stored in the ARK Data tab for later retrieval.
- Creatures: eligible tamed creatures are placed in the Creatures tab. The creature’s saddle, head gear, and inventory are not carried inside that upload.
The Tribute tab is part of the transfer interface, but it is not the normal destination for a survivor, item, or tame that you intend to move between maps. Use the category that matches the object you want to recover.

Check eligibility before you upload anything
An upload is safest when you confirm the destination and its rules first. A successful upload does not guarantee that the destination will accept the download.
Verify the cluster
Both servers must be members of the same CrossARK cluster. Merely having the same game version, host, or map name is not enough. Identify the exact destination server and confirm that it shares the cluster with your current server.
Check game mode and server type
Normal official transfers remain within the relevant mode: official PvE data stays in official PvE, and official PvP data stays in official PvP. Official and unofficial servers do not exchange data through the normal CrossARK mechanism. A local, single-player-style game is also outside this transfer system.
Confirm the transfer direction and object type
Administrators can allow uploads while blocking downloads, or permit survivors but block items or creatures. A map can also impose one-way or temporary restrictions. Confirm that the destination accepts the specific direction and object you need to move.
Look for temporary event restrictions
Official server groups and newly launched maps can have special transfer policies. An event may permit characters but restrict items or creatures, or impose mode-specific boundaries. Read the latest announcement or in-game notice for the target server before committing valuable assets.
Prepare your survivor, items, and tames
Make a transfer plan
Decide what must arrive first. In most moves, the survivor is downloaded before stored items and creatures are collected. Keep the destination’s storage and a safe landing location ready so you are not forced to leave valuable uploads unattended.

Separate creature equipment
Before uploading a tame, remove its saddle, head gear, and every item in its inventory. Those contents are dropped by the creature upload rather than transported with the creature. Put the equipment and resources into ARK Data separately if you need them on the destination map.
Check map-specific creature rules
A creature that can be uploaded from one map may be blocked from download on another. Destination settings can control foreign-dino downloads, and map-specific restrictions can apply even inside one cluster. Check the destination’s rules for the exact species and variant before uploading it.
Record what you upload
Write down the names of uploaded creatures and the contents of ARK Data. This is particularly useful when several players share a cluster or when an upload is close to expiring. Do not assume an item left in a creature’s inventory will appear in ARK Data; remove it and upload it as an item yourself.
Step-by-step: move your survivor to another map
- Join the source server and travel to an Obelisk or Tek Transmitter. Use a device that exposes the CrossARK transfer interface. Confirm that you are at the intended source map and that the destination belongs to the same permitted cluster.
- Open the transfer interface. The documented tabs are ARK Data, Creatures, and Tribute. The survivor command is shown as Upload Survivor.
- Upload the survivor. Select Upload Survivor and accept the confirmation. Your character leaves the source map and becomes available for download by that survivor on an eligible destination server.
- Connect to the destination server in the same cluster. Select the intended map and verify that its current policy allows survivor downloads.
- Download the survivor. Use the destination’s transfer interface to download the uploaded character. Once the survivor is active, use the same interface to recover items and creatures.
Uploading a survivor is not the same as transferring a complete inventory. Put items into ARK Data before leaving if you want to retrieve them on the destination map.

- At the Obelisk or Tek Transmitter, open ARK Data. This is the storage area for transferable items, not the creature slot.
- Deposit each item or stack you want to move. Check the displayed contents before you leave. Items left in your survivor’s personal inventory are not automatically converted into ARK Data.
- Upload the survivor or otherwise travel to the destination. The data remains associated with the cluster transfer system, subject to its expiration and administrator settings.
- Join the destination map and open the same transfer interface. Confirm that item downloads are enabled there.
- Retrieve the items from ARK Data. Take them out before the upload timer expires, and verify that every stack arrived before making another trip.
If the destination blocks item downloads, do not upload irreplaceable materials expecting an exception. Ask the server administrator whether the restriction is temporary or whether another approved route exists.
Step-by-step: move a tamed creature
- Bring the tame close to the Obelisk or Tek Transmitter. The creature must be nearby and eligible under the destination’s map and server rules.
- Strip the tame completely. Remove its saddle, head gear, and all inventory. Upload those items separately through ARK Data.
- Open the Creatures tab. Select the nearby tame and confirm the upload. Do not close the interface until the creature appears in the transfer list.
- Travel to the destination server in the same cluster. Check that foreign-creature downloads and creature downloads are enabled.
- Open the Creatures tab and download the tame. A creature downloaded through the transfer interface automatically follows the player who downloaded it.
- Re-equip it on the destination map. Recover the saddle and other equipment from ARK Data, then place them on the creature.
Uploading a creature without first removing its equipment is a common way to lose the apparent contents of a saddle or inventory. Treat the creature and its gear as two separate transfers.

Understand the upload timer and reupload limits
ARK Data’s normal multiplayer deadline
The documented default multiplayer limit for creatures and items uploaded to ARK Data is 24 hours. The timer is a deadline, not a guarantee that the data will remain indefinitely. Retrieve the upload before it expires, and remember that an administrator can change the value.
Dino reupload timing
The configuration reference documents a 43,200-second (12-hour) minimum dino reupload interval on official servers. This is a documented official-server minimum, not a universal timer for every hosted cluster. Host settings and server policies can differ, so check the target cluster’s rules before planning repeated creature moves.

Practical timer discipline
- Upload only what you can retrieve within the stated window.
- Move to the destination promptly instead of leaving items overnight.
- Keep a written inventory of uploads and their deadlines.
- Ask an administrator whether a timer was changed before assuming an expired upload is recoverable.
Why a survivor, item, or creature download can fail
The servers are not in the same cluster
This is the first condition to verify. A similar server name or neighboring map does not establish shared CrossARK storage. If the servers do not share a cluster identity and transfer-data location, the destination will not see the upload.
The destination blocks downloads
Administrators can independently prevent survivor, item, or creature downloads. A destination may therefore accept your connection while hiding the relevant upload category. Confirm the policy for the exact object type rather than testing with valuable assets.
The source blocks uploads
Upload restrictions can be separate from download restrictions. If the source prevents survivor, item, or creature uploads, the object will not enter the transfer system even if the destination appears open.
A foreign creature is prohibited
Map rules and the CrossARKAllowForeignDinoDownloads setting can control whether a creature originating on another map may be downloaded. Try a permitted creature only after confirming the destination’s rule; do not repeatedly upload a restricted tame.

An official policy changed
Official server groups can change transfer permissions for an event, a launch window, or a particular mode. Recheck the current announcement for the target cluster if a transfer that worked previously is now refused.
The upload expired
Items and creatures in ARK Data normally have a 24-hour multiplayer limit unless the administrator changed it. An expired entry may no longer be available for download, so the practical remedy is to contact the administrator rather than repeatedly reconnecting.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Setting up CrossARK on a private cluster
A private cluster needs a consistent identity and a shared place for transfer data. Each map server must point to the same cluster configuration; otherwise each server behaves as an isolated island.

Assign the same cluster ID to every map that should exchange survivors, items, and creatures. A mismatch prevents the servers from recognizing one another as members of one transfer group.
Share the transfer-data directory
The configuration reference documents ClusterDirOverride as the cross-server storage path. Every map server must use a shared, writable location for this path so uploads created on one map are visible on the others.
Review download and upload switches
Check each map’s settings for:
PreventDownloadDinosPreventDownloadItemsPreventDownloadSurvivorsPreventUploadDinosPreventUploadItemsPreventUploadSurvivorsnoTributeDownloads
These controls can create a one-way transfer or block one category while allowing another. Document the intended policy for every map instead of copying a setting blindly.
Best Value
Test with disposable assets
After configuration, use a low-value item, a nonessential tame, and a test survivor where possible. Test both directions and each object category. Verify that an upload appears on the destination and that the downloaded creature follows the player who claimed it.

Tell players the actual policy
Publish the cluster’s mode boundaries, foreign-creature rule, expiration period, and reupload interval. Players need those details before they place a valuable tame or blueprint into a transfer slot.
Official, hosted private, and self-managed setups compared
The best setup depends less on a server’s label than on its transfer policy and the control available to you.
| Comparison point | Official cluster | Hosted private cluster | Self-managed cluster |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared maps | Determined by the official server group and current announcements | Configured by the host and administrator | Configured directly by the owner |
| Upload/download restrictions | Policy can change for a mode, event, or map launch | Set through the host’s server configuration | Set directly in each server configuration |
| Expiration and reupload timers | Use the current official policy; the documented official dino minimum is 43,200 seconds | May differ from official values | Chosen and maintained by the administrator within supported settings |
| Foreign-creature downloads | Subject to the destination map and official rules | Controlled by destination settings | Controlled by destination settings, including foreign-dino options |
| Platform and mode compatibility | Must match the official group’s boundaries | Must match the cluster’s supported arrangement | Must match the owner’s server and player setup |
| Administrative control | Limited to published policy | Depends on the host and administrator | Highest control, but the owner must maintain identity, storage, and permissions |
A reliable pre-transfer checklist
- Confirm the destination map is in the same CrossARK cluster.
- Confirm source and destination share the permitted PvE or PvP and official or unofficial boundary.
- Check current event or map-launch restrictions.
- Verify survivor, item, and creature upload/download permissions separately.
- Check foreign-creature rules for the destination map.
- Move every saddle, head item, and creature-inventory item into ARK Data before uploading a tame.
- Note the 24-hour default multiplayer ARK Data deadline and any local override.
- Check whether a creature is subject to a 43,200-second official reupload minimum or a different local timer.
- Record the names and contents of every upload.
- Download the survivor first, then retrieve items and creatures promptly.
Worked examples
Moving a survivor and building materials
Place the materials in ARK Data, travel to the Obelisk, and select Upload Survivor. Join the destination map, download the survivor, and open ARK Data to recover the materials. If the destination permits survivor downloads but blocks item downloads, the survivor can arrive while the materials remain inaccessible; check both permissions before uploading.
Moving a mount with a saddle
Remove the saddle, head gear, and inventory from the mount. Put those objects in ARK Data, upload the nearby creature from the Creatures tab, then download it on the destination map. The downloaded tame follows the player who performs the download; re-equip it after retrieving the saddle.
Moving to a newly launched map
Do not rely on the fact that two maps are advertised as part of one game. Read the current official policy for that map launch. A temporary rule may allow character transfers while restricting items or creatures.
What to do when a transfer is blocked
- Stop uploading additional valuables.
- Write down the source server, destination server, object type, and the exact message or missing tab.
- Check cluster membership and the PvE/PvP and official/unofficial boundary.
- Check upload and download restrictions for that object type.
- Check foreign-creature rules if a tame is involved.
- Check the upload’s expiration and any reupload timer.
- Ask the administrator whether an event policy or configuration change is responsible.
This order distinguishes a player-side mistake from a deliberate server policy. It also avoids consuming an upload deadline while you guess at the cause.
Bottom line for safe CrossARK transfers
Use an Obelisk or Tek Transmitter, upload each category to its proper tab, and treat the source and destination as one coordinated system rather than two independent servers. The transfer succeeds only when the cluster identity, shared storage, mode boundaries, map rules, permissions, and timers all agree. Empty every tame before uploading it, move its equipment through ARK Data, and retrieve all uploads before the configured deadline.
