Hydration can temporarily make the surface look plumper and soften the appearance of fine texture. That can improve the way light reflects from the skin. Your result will also depend on natural skin texture, oil production, irritation, pigmentation, scars, climate, sleep and sun exposure. A routine should therefore aim for comfortable, consistently hydrated skin rather than an edited or permanently poreless finish.

Calling the Snail 96 product a “snail mucin moisturizer” is common in casual searches, but its formal role in COSRX’s own sequence is an essence. The Snail 92 All In One Cream is the moisturizer.
Morning routine: exact order and technique

Cleanse gently
Start with the cleanser step in COSRX’s glass-skin sequence. Use lukewarm water and rinse thoroughly. If your skin feels tight or squeaky afterward, the cleanser may be too aggressive or you may be cleansing for too long.

Tone if toner is part of your routine
COSRX gives the instruction as “After cleansing and toning, apply a small amount to the entire face.” If you use a toner, apply it before the essence and allow excess liquid to settle so the next layer does not run. Toner is not a requirement to make the essence usable; the essential preparation is clean skin.

Apply Snail 96 essence
Dispense a small amount, spread it over the face, and pat gently until it is distributed. Avoid vigorous rubbing, which can increase friction and leave a tackier feel. Keep the product away from the eye itself; use only the directions on the package around that area.

Moisturize with Snail 92 cream

Night routine and optional mask

Remove makeup and sunscreen
Cleanse thoroughly enough to remove the day’s products without scrubbing. If you use a first cleansing step, follow it with your regular cleanser and rinse well.

Apply toner, if used
Keep the same order as in the morning: toner before the Snail 96 essence.

Layer the essence
Pat a small amount of Snail 96 over the face. Give it a moment to spread evenly before the cream.

Apply the Snail 92 moisturizer
Use the gel-cream as the final regular moisturizing step. This is the position COSRX assigns to it in the routine.

Add a mask only when useful
COSRX lists its hydrogel mask as special care that can follow moisturizing at night. A mask is optional, not a requirement for the routine to work. Stop if the mask causes stinging, redness or swelling.
How much to use and how to apply it
COSRX’s product direction is deliberately simple: apply a small amount to the entire face. There is no universal pump count that fits every dispenser, face size or skin type, so begin with a thin, even layer rather than trying to make the skin visibly wet.
- Apply to the face and blend toward the jawline if that area needs hydration.
- Pat lightly instead of repeatedly rubbing.
- Give each layer enough time to stop sliding before adding the next one.
- If the finish feels sticky, reduce the amount or use the essence only once a day.
- If skin still feels tight after the cream, add a little more moisturizer to dry areas rather than repeatedly adding essence.
More product does not automatically create more radiance. Excess layers can pill under sunscreen or makeup and may make it harder to tell whether irritation is coming from this product or another one.

Can you use Snail Mucin every day?
COSRX’s routine places the essence in a normal daily skincare sequence, but the supplied product information does not establish a single frequency that is right for every person. A practical approach is to introduce it once a day for several days. If your skin remains comfortable, you can consider using it in both morning and evening routines.

Daily use is not a goal in itself; comfortable, non-irritated skin is the goal. If you develop persistent burning, swelling or a rash, stop rather than trying to build tolerance.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—show
COSRX reports clinical testing conducted by Dermacosmetic Skin Science Laboratory in Korea from May 26 through June 10, 2025, involving 20 adult participants. That is a small, brand-reported study. The available material does not identify an independent clinical trial confirming that the essence produces glass skin for the general population.
That evidence supports a measured expectation: the product may help some users achieve a more hydrated or plump-looking finish. It does not establish permanent pore reduction, removal of acne scars, guaranteed brightening or universal compatibility. Skin changes also depend on the rest of your routine and on consistent sun protection.

Patch testing and safety
Patch-test before applying a new product to your entire face, especially if you have reactive skin or a history of cosmetic allergies. Apply a small amount to a limited area according to your usual patch-testing practice and watch for delayed irritation before expanding use.
A DailyMed-hosted product document advises: “If redness, swelling, or irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice.” It also says not to use the product on damaged or broken skin. Do not apply it over cuts, open blemishes, sunburn or actively peeling areas.

Troubleshooting common problems
The essence feels sticky
Use less, apply it to slightly damp rather than dripping-wet skin, and wait for it to settle before the cream. A humid environment can also make a humectant-rich layer feel tackier. If the sensation remains unpleasant, use the essence only at night or skip it and keep the moisturizer.
Products pill under sunscreen or makeup
Pilling usually means there is too much product, too much rubbing or too little time between layers. Reduce the amount of essence and cream, pat instead of massage, and allow the moisturizer to settle before sunscreen. Test the combination on the jawline before applying a full face of makeup.
The skin feels tight after layering
Check the cleanser first, then add a slightly more generous amount of Snail 92 cream to dry areas. Adding multiple layers of essence may not solve tightness if the cleansing step is stripping or if the surrounding air is very dry.
Redness, swelling or burning appears
Discontinue use immediately. Do not apply the product to broken skin or try to cover the reaction with another active product. Seek medical advice if symptoms are severe, spreading or persistent.
There is no “glass” effect
Give the routine enough time to show whether hydration improves your appearance, but do not interpret a lack of shine as treatment failure. Glass skin is partly determined by texture, pigmentation and genetics. A healthy, comfortable finish is a more realistic benchmark than mirror-like reflectivity.

Dry or dehydrated skin
Use the essence followed by the cream, and concentrate the moisturizer on areas that feel tight. Avoid judging hydration immediately after cleansing; assess how the skin feels several minutes after the full routine.

Oily or combination skin
Use a thin essence layer and a lighter amount of gel-cream on the forehead, nose and chin. You can apply more cream to drier cheeks. Sunscreen remains necessary in the morning even when you prefer a minimal-feeling routine.
Reactive or easily irritated skin
Patch-test first, introduce the essence alone, and avoid adding several new products at once. Keep use away from damaged skin and stop at the first sign of significant irritation.
Uneven texture or post-blemish marks
The essence may make skin look more hydrated, but the supplied evidence does not show that it removes scars or permanently changes pores. Use sunscreen consistently and consult a dermatologist for persistent acne, scarring or pigmentation concerns.
Using it with the rest of your routine
The documented COSRX sequence establishes cleansing, toning, Snail 96 essence, Snail 92 cream and daytime sunscreen. It does not establish specific interaction rules for every exfoliant, retinoid, prescription treatment or medicated product.
