How to Use Claude for Government on an Approved Government Network

To use Claude for Government, first have your agency confirm that your organization, network, account, intended work, and data are approved. Anthropic’s published access route is organizational: leadership at eligible agencies should contact its public-sector team. Individual users should then follow their agency’s onboarding instructions; there is no universal public login procedure or network-compatibility checklist.

What Claude for Government is—and what its authorization means

Anthropic describes Claude for Government as a government-focused service authorized at FedRAMP High for sensitive unclassified government work. That describes the service and its authorized hosting arrangement; it does not automatically approve every agency network, user account, data type, or workflow. Your agency must determine whether the specific service and use are within its approved boundary.

Anthropic’s August 12, 2025 announcement says eligible department or agency leadership should contact its public-sector team to gain access. The announcement does not document self-service registration for individual users. The Anthropic Trust Center identifies Palantir Federal Cloud Service and FedStart in the documented authorization arrangement; some security documentation may require authorized federal-customer access.

FedRAMP applies to cloud service offerings and hosting environments, not to a Claude model name by itself. Anthropic’s Trust Center distinguishes its models as components rather than separately FedRAMP-authorized services. For a FedRAMP High workload, follow your agency’s approval for Claude for Government or an authorized partner environment; do not infer approval from the model alone.

How to get access through your agency

  1. Confirm approval first. Ask your supervisor, agency IT administrator, or security office whether your organization has access and whether the intended task and data are permitted. Ask specifically which network, account, device, and service boundary to use.
  2. Have eligible agency leadership initiate access if needed. Anthropic’s published instruction is for department or agency leadership at eligible organizations to contact its public-sector team. Confirm procurement and onboarding details directly with the agency and Anthropic; the public announcement does not provide an individual-user signup path.
  3. Get the agency’s user onboarding instructions. Use the approved endpoint, identity flow, device, and account supplied by your agency. Do not substitute consumer Claude sign-in instructions for government onboarding.
  4. Verify the scope before entering information. Follow agency rules for the data classification and workflow. Service authorization alone does not determine whether a particular input is allowed.
  5. Request security documentation through the proper channel if needed. The Trust Center lists Claude for Government secure configuration and authorization materials; access to some documents may be restricted.

What “compatible government network” means in practice

There is no public, universal compatibility checklist in the cited Anthropic materials. They do not specify a single required network allowlist, login URL, identity provider, CAC/PIV procedure, browser, or user-device configuration. Those details depend on the agency’s deployment and security controls.

Ask your administrator or security office for the exact approved connection method and whether your current network and account are in scope. If they cannot confirm it, do not try alternate endpoints or use a personal account to work around the issue. Buying a computer, card reader, router, or other hardware does not itself make a network compatible or grant access.

How agency cloud alternatives differ

Some agencies may provide Claude through a cloud environment they manage rather than through Claude for Government directly. These are agency-managed cloud services and APIs, not consumer signups. The announcements below describe routes and authorization contexts at the time they were published; model catalogs and enabled features can change.

Do not treat the 2025 offer as current pricing

Anthropic’s August 2025 announcement described a $1 government access offer available for one year. That was a dated offer, not verified current pricing or a promise of today’s terms. Ask the agency or Anthropic’s public-sector team about current procurement and pricing.
