Tom Rankin’s September 22, 2026 WP Mayor tutorial shows Claude Desktop connected to a local WordPress site through Novamira, then uses plain-language prompts to create and manage WooCommerce products. The workflow covers a sample catalog, a previewed price increase, a scheduled category sale, product-data checks and a small custom feature. The tasks are demonstrated in a test environment; they are not a guarantee that an AI will handle every store’s data or fields correctly.
What the Claude–Novamira workflow does
Novamira connects compatible AI clients to WordPress through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Its getting-started documentation includes Claude among compatible clients. In Rankin’s walkthrough, Claude uses that connection to work with WooCommerce data on a fresh local WordPress installation. Novamira describes its plugin as giving AI agents access to WordPress through PHP execution, WP-CLI commands, database queries and file edits; that access makes a cautious test environment essential.

The tutorial’s practical pattern is to ask for a proposed change, review it, approve it, and then inspect the resulting records. For example, Rankin’s prompt wording includes “Don’t change anything yet. Show me a table…” and “Flag any conflicts.” These are useful examples from the walkthrough, not magic phrases that guarantee safe or correct results.

Set up a safe test environment first
Rankin ran the workflow on a local test site, not a live shop. Novamira’s product guidance also recommends development or staging environments and validating changes before shipping them to production. Before connecting an AI client, make a current backup and make sure you can restore it. Treat every approved operation as a real change: it may not roll back automatically.

- Use a local or staging WordPress installation with WooCommerce configured.
- Keep a current backup separate from the site being changed.
- Review proposed edits before approval; verify the affected products afterward.
- For scheduled sales, confirm the site timezone and dates, then check that products outside the target category were not changed.
Novamira is not the only MCP route relevant to WooCommerce: WooCommerce also documents an MCP integration for connecting AI assistants to store data. The tutorial does not compare the routes or establish that one is required for the other.
Build a sample product catalog
Rankin asked Claude to inspect software versions, configure WooCommerce if needed, create standard store pages and three product categories, then add 10–15 fictional products. The requested product details included names, SKUs, prices, stock information, descriptions, categories and weights. The author reports that this first pass took about 10–15 minutes and that one short description needed correction.
That is one author-reported run, not a benchmark. Generated catalog content still needs a human review for accurate descriptions, sensible prices, valid SKUs, stock settings and correct category assignments before it is used outside a test site.
Preview and apply a category price change
For the Desk Accessories category, the walkthrough asks Claude to propose a 9% increase to regular prices and round the result so it ends in .99. Crucially, the prompt first requests a table of current and proposed amounts and asks Claude to flag missing prices or active sales. Rankin reviews the proposal and approves it before checking product edit screens afterward.
This separates calculation from execution: inspect which products are included and how each new value was calculated before authorizing a bulk change. Afterward, verify the product records themselves rather than relying only on Claude’s summary.

The example then schedules a 20% sale for Home Office products with start and end dates. Claude asks which timezone the site uses and runs into a limitation in the product fields available through the workflow. Rankin describes a workaround, but the example makes clear that a request expressed in natural language does not mean every WooCommerce field is necessarily exposed or straightforward to change.
After a scheduled sale is set, inspect the affected products directly. Confirm the start and end dates against the site timezone, make sure regular prices remain unchanged, and check products outside Home Office for unintended edits. A successful response from the AI is not proof that the store’s final state is correct.

The tutorial also asks Claude to audit or repair product data. Rankin reports that this required more back-and-forth than the bulk price update. When Claude infers a missing value such as a SKU, the result should be treated as a proposed guess, not confirmed product information. Check each proposed repair against reliable store records before accepting it.
Use AI-generated code cautiously
For a small custom feature, Rankin asks Claude to inspect the theme and plugins, then create a standalone plugin that adds a sale-end notice to product pages. The walkthrough says the example did not include security checks or all of the practices expected in typical development. It is a demonstration, not production-ready code: review the implementation, test it on staging, and have qualified development review before deploying custom code to a live shop.
Is Novamira Pro necessary?
The tutorial says the demonstrated tasks are technically possible with Novamira Free. Pro is optional and adds WooCommerce-specific expertise and memory between sessions, which may be useful when similar work recurs. The official site describes the free plugin as open source and Pro as a paid add-on.
When checked on October 7, 2026, Novamira’s site listed Personal at €49 per year, Agency at €149 per year, and Agency Lifetime at €299 one time. These are time-sensitive listed prices, not a guarantee of current pricing or packaging. Choose based on whether WooCommerce-specific guidance and cross-session memory justify the cost for your work; if the free workflow is enough, the tutorial does not make Pro a prerequisite.
How much time did the walkthrough take?
Rankin reports that the complete workflow took about an hour. The first attempt at the custom feature took about 30 minutes, while a repeat took roughly half as long. Those figures describe the author’s particular walkthrough and are not independent performance evidence or a prediction for another store.
