Chrome can help you buy smarter by tracking product prices and notifying you when they drop. If you’ve ever watched the same item jump around for days, price tracking is designed to reduce that busywork and bring the deal to you.
This guide focuses on Chrome’s price tracking workflow: how to start tracking, where alerts appear, how to manage tracked products, and what to do when the feature doesn’t show up.

What Chrome’s price tracking feature is (and what it isn’t)
Chrome’s price tracking is a shopping-related alert system tied to product listings you choose to watch. When the tracked price changes (typically falls), you get notified so you can decide whether to buy.

What it isn’t: a guarantee that every drop will trigger an alert, or that every retailer will be included. Availability also varies by country, account settings, and which product listing qualifies.
Prerequisites you need before price tracking will show up
Before you hunt for a Track price button, make sure Chrome and your Google account are set up to receive shopping alerts.
- Be signed into a Google account in Chrome (the same account you want alerts for).
- Use a supported region. Price tracking availability depends on local support and retail coverage.
- Enable notifications in the browser (for alert delivery) and ensure your OS notification settings allow Chrome.
- Allow required permissions when prompted (for example, notifications).
If you recently changed accounts or cleared key browser data, the feature may temporarily fail to appear until things refresh.

The most common path is through Chrome’s shopping results for a product. The exact UI wording can vary slightly by country and product category, but the workflow stays consistent.
Step 1: Search for the product in Chrome
- Open Chrome.
- In the address bar, search for the item (e.g., “Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones” or a specific model number).
- Use Shopping-style results (product cards) rather than general web pages when possible.
For best matching, include the exact model, size, color, or SKU you intend to buy.
Step 2: Find the Track price option in the results
- Look for the product card that matches what you want.
- On that card, find an option that reads Track price, Track prices, or similar wording.
- Select it, then confirm the tracking action when prompted.
If you don’t see a track option on the card you clicked, try another listing for the same product (different retailers sometimes show different capabilities).
Step 3: Confirm where alerts will go
- When Chrome/Google prompts you, make sure you’re allowing the relevant notifications for shopping alerts.
- Choose the alert destination if you’re asked (some setups route through email or web notifications in addition to on-site alerts).
- Confirm your selection and complete any last confirmation dialogs.
After that, the product should appear in your tracked items list.
How price tracking alerts work
Price tracking is built to reduce repetitive checking, not to spam you. Alerts typically follow meaningful price movement on the watched listing.

What triggers an alert
An alert usually triggers when the system detects a meaningful price change for the tracked item. That could be a drop, a deal threshold being crossed, or a price update that differs from the previous tracked state.
Retailer availability matters. If the listing is temporarily out of stock or changes variants, alerts can behave unpredictably.
What kind of notifications to expect
- Web notifications in Chrome (if enabled) for price changes.
- Email or account notifications depending on your notification settings.
- In-page indicators in shopping results when you return later.
When alerts come in, open the product card directly to compare the current price with the full checkout total.

Expect alerts when there’s a significant movement, not every minor fluctuation. The exact frequency depends on pricing volatility and your configuration, but well-tuned alerts usually avoid constant re-notification.
Managing your tracked items
Tracking is useful only if you can manage it. You should be able to review what you’re tracking, pause/stop items, and verify that notifications are still enabled.
View tracked products and their history
- In Chrome, open your shopping area tied to Google account activity (you may need to return to your track listing or a tracked items page).
- Look for a Tracked, Price tracking, or similar entry in the shopping UI.
- Select the product to see current status and (where available) price history or recent changes.
If you can’t find it from search, start from a page where you clicked Track price originally; the interface often keeps links to the tracked list.
Stop tracking a product
- Open the tracked items list.
- Select the product you want to stop.
- Choose Stop tracking or Remove (wording varies).
- Confirm the change.
Stopping tracking prevents future alerts, but it doesn’t necessarily delete browsing history or account activity.
Update notification preferences
If alerts suddenly stop, check notification settings on both sides: Chrome and your operating system.

- OS settings: confirm notifications are enabled for Chrome and that notification delivery isn’t set to silent.
After changing permissions, refresh Chrome and wait a few minutes for the system to apply the updated settings.
Troubleshooting: why you can’t find Track price
Missing the track option is common. It doesn’t always mean you’re doing something wrong—feature availability can be limited by region, product category, or listing type.
Common causes
- You’re not signed in or you’re signed into a different account than the one you want alerts for.
- Notifications are blocked (permissions denied or OS notification settings off).
- Your region doesn’t support price tracking for that product type.
- The retailer listing isn’t eligible or the product card you’re viewing doesn’t expose tracking controls.
- Browser state issues (cookie/cache problems after upgrades, extensions, or privacy settings).
Fixes that usually work
- Confirm you’re signed in (click your profile icon in Chrome and ensure the correct account is active).
- Enable notifications: open Chrome settings for site notifications, then allow notifications for relevant Google shopping pages.
- Try a different listing: search again and select a product card from a different retailer.
- Use a fresh search query: include the exact model, and remove ambiguous terms (e.g., avoid “new headphones” and use “WH-1000XM5 Black”).
- Check extensions: temporarily disable ad blockers or privacy tools that might interfere with shopping UI scripts.
- Restart Chrome after changing permissions.
- Clear targeted site data: clear cookies and site data for Google shopping domains, then sign in again.
If none of the above works, the simplest diagnosis is: your region, account, or the specific product listing isn’t eligible for Chrome’s price tracking UI.

Price tracking is a tool. Your outcomes improve when you track the right item and compare the true checkout price, not just the sticker price.
Track the right SKU and size
Many “same product” listings differ by size, color, warranty, or bundle. Track the exact configuration you plan to buy to avoid alerts that don’t actually match your target.
For example, “iPhone 15 128GB” and “iPhone 15 256GB” can show different price movements and may trigger different alerts.
Compare shipping and taxes before buying
A price drop can be offset by shipping costs, delivery fees, or tax differences. When you get an alert, open the offer and check the full total.
If the alert takes you to a merchant page with multiple variants, confirm you’re looking at the same variant you originally tracked.

Set your timing strategy
Don’t treat alerts as a “buy immediately” signal in all cases. If a deal is close to your threshold, consider waiting for a second drop—or checking return policies—so you don’t overpay out of urgency.
For big-ticket items, watch for patterns across days rather than one-off drops.
Use multiple sources when a price moves oddly
If the tracked price changes dramatically and quickly, verify the listing isn’t switching to a different seller tier or different condition (new vs. refurbished).
When in doubt, compare against the best alternative retailer listing in the same timeframe.

Google Shopping and Google app alerts
Some users get similar price-deal notifications through Google’s shopping experiences and the Google app rather than the Chrome UI alone. If Chrome doesn’t show tracking, check your Google app shopping notifications and account settings.
Use the same strict search terms (exact model + variant) to improve match accuracy.
Browser extensions and deal tools
Third-party deal tools (for example, coupon/rebate helpers) can sometimes find discounts at checkout, but they’re different from price tracking.

Manual tracking with spreadsheets
If you’re tracking a specific SKU at one or two retailers, a spreadsheet still works reliably. Record price, shipping, and date when you check. Add a simple threshold column so you can act quickly when the price hits your target.
This method doesn’t notify you automatically, but it’s precise and under your control.

FAQ
Why did I stop seeing Track price on product cards?
Most commonly it’s one of: you’re not signed in to the correct Google account, notifications are blocked, your region doesn’t support tracking for that listing, or the retailer listing isn’t eligible.
Try a different retailer card and verify notification permissions in Chrome and your OS.
Do price tracking alerts include shipping and taxes?
Usually alerts are based on the tracked offer price. Shipping and taxes can still change at checkout. Always open the current offer after an alert to check the full total and variant match.
Can I track multiple items at once?
Yes. You can typically track many products, then manage them from your tracked list. If you track dozens, check your alert volume and stop anything you’ve already bought.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if I tracked the wrong variant?
Stop tracking the incorrect listing and start tracking the correct SKU. If you’re not sure which variant you were watching, open the tracked item and confirm the product details shown in the listing.
Does price tracking work in incognito mode?
Usually not reliably. Incognito can block or limit cookies and account state, and notifications may not behave normally. Use a normal Chrome window signed into your account.
Bottom Line
Chrome’s price tracking feature is most valuable when you pair it with exact product matching and a quick check of the final checkout total. Start tracking from product cards in shopping results, confirm notifications are allowed, and manage tracked items so you don’t miss meaningful drops.
If Track price isn’t available, don’t force it—switch to alternative Google shopping notifications or use a manual tracking sheet until Chrome’s feature is supported for your region and listings.
