Yes—an old laptop can run a Hindi ASMR YouTube livestream, but its age alone cannot tell you whether it will stay stable around the clock. The result depends on the laptop’s operating system, encoder, cooling and condition, the stream’s resolution and scene complexity, and your upload connection. Test the specific machine before relying on it, and plan to monitor and recover interruptions; OBS’s minimum requirements are not a performance guarantee.
What you need to check before using the laptop
Before installing anything, identify the exact laptop model, operating system, CPU, graphics hardware, available storage, and network connection. Inspect the fan and vents for dust or obstruction. Hardware and software specifications help establish whether an encoder may run, while cooling and sustained-run reliability have to be checked on the actual device.

OBS Studio is one option. Its published basic requirements list Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU; macOS 11 or later, an Intel or Apple Silicon CPU and an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU; or Linux/Unix with OpenGL 3.3 and X Window System or Wayland. Requirements can change, so confirm current compatibility at the OBS system requirements. Meeting them does not guarantee that the laptop can encode your intended stream smoothly.
Set up OBS and YouTube Live
- Install OBS Studio and start simply. Run its Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point. Create a basic scene with the ASMR audio and a static or lightly animated visual. Avoid unnecessary browser sources, filters, and effects until you know how the machine performs.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a livestream. YouTube’s computer-streaming guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable access in advance. See YouTube’s live-streaming help.
- Connect OBS to the broadcast. Copy the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into the corresponding stream settings in OBS. Treat the key like a password: do not share or publish it, and reset it if you suspect it has been exposed.
- Set the output conservatively. YouTube recommends CBR, H.264 for RTMP/RTMPS, AAC or MP3 audio, and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Its bitrate guidance lists 2 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 0.3 Mbps for 480p at 30 fps. These are platform recommendations, not proof your laptop or connection can sustain the load. Check the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance; begin at a modest resolution and frame rate, then assess actual performance.
- Leave upload headroom. Run a speed test and choose a stream bitrate your connection can sustain with room for normal variability. The encoder’s output must fit both available upload bandwidth and the laptop’s sustained encoding capacity. If either is unstable, reduce the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and retest rather than assuming a single speed-test result guarantees reliability.
Choose an encoding approach the laptop can sustain
Software encoding uses the CPU; a supported hardware encoder can move much of that work off the CPU. Do not assume an older laptop has a compatible hardware encoder. OBS notes that hardware encoding can reduce performance impact, while older encoder generations may deliver lower image quality at the same bitrate. Compare the options on your machine with a real stream test, and review OBS’s hardware encoding guidance.

For a low-load Hindi ASMR scene, start with a still image or restrained visual and the lowest resolution and frame rate that suit your channel. Motion, filters, browser overlays, and higher output settings can increase workload. There is no universally safe setting for an unspecified laptop: watch OBS’s rendering and encoding indicators and YouTube’s stream health, and lower the workload if frames are dropping or the computer is struggling.
Test audio, stream health, and long-run reliability
Before making the stream public, test the complete scene with audio and movement similar to what you intend to broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview, listen for distortion, silence, clipping, or synchronization problems, and watch stream health while the laptop runs. A microphone is useful if you are performing or recording original live sounds; it is not necessary for a stream that plays audio you have already produced. Headphones can help monitor sound but do not improve encoding capacity.

Run the setup long enough to look for dropped frames, overheating, fan or power problems, audio failure, and network instability. No test duration can certify an unspecified old laptop for continuous service. Keep the laptop ventilated, connected to reliable power, and somewhere you can inspect it. During a real broadcast, monitor the stream and audio and have a way to restart OBS or the broadcast if either stops.

A 24/7 label does not ensure an uninterrupted broadcast. Plan supervised restarts and recovery, and verify in YouTube Studio that the broadcast is still live rather than assuming it recovered. YouTube says encoder livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise that every stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be archived. Do not count on one continuous day-long broadcast both staying live and producing a complete archive.

Make the Hindi ASMR content original and rights-safe
Use audio and visuals you created or have permission to use. Copyright permission and YouTube’s monetization review are separate questions: permission to use material does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization.
YouTube’s monetization policy clarification dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible. The policy applies to livestreams as well as other videos and favors original, authentic work over interchangeable, template-driven content with little value. A static loop or lightly varied template is not assured monetizable content. Give the stream meaningful creative identity—for example, original Hindi sound recordings, genuine performance, or substantial variation—and do not assume that Hindi, ASMR, or a 24/7 format guarantees approval, revenue, or an audience. Troubleshoot common problems
