For a tutorial or demonstration, use a mock page and synthetic data. If you must document a live issue, keep sign-in and authentication under your control, capture only the smallest useful area, mask sensitive fields before saving a shareable image, and inspect that image before sending it anywhere. A screenshot API is not a safe shortcut for an authenticated bank page: do not send it account-page URLs, session cookies, credentials, or other access tokens.
Choose the least-exposing way to get the image
Start by asking whether you need a real bank page at all. A mock page or synthetic account data is usually enough for a tutorial, product demo, or general bug report, and avoids creating an image of real customer information.

If you cannot confidently check that the final image conceals every sensitive value, do not share it; make a synthetic example instead.
Keep the bank account and authentication under your control
- Verify the destination yourself. Use the bank’s known official address, a bookmark you trust, or its official app. The Reserve Bank of India’s public digital-banking guidance advises customers to use verified, secure and trusted websites and warns against reaching a bank site through online search. Do not follow a bank link supplied by an unsolicited message or an AI agent.
- Sign in yourself, if a live session is essential. Do not put a password, PIN, OTP, CVV, or UPI PIN into an AI prompt, agent configuration, script, or log. RBI’s warning is direct: “Never share your Password, PIN, OTP, CVV, UPI-PIN, etc., with anyone.”
- Limit what the agent can do. As a cautious operational practice, give automation only the narrow action needed after you have signed in. Keep control of authentication yourself and stop if the task requires an OTP, payment approval, transfer, new beneficiary, or another consequential action. This is practical advice based on RBI’s credential guidance, not a claim that RBI has issued a specific rule about AI agents.
- Check whether automation is permitted. The browser-automation documentation described below does not establish whether a particular bank permits automated access. Follow the bank’s terms and security controls; do not try to evade a bot check or other access restriction.
Capture only what the task needs
Prefer the current viewport or a specific element over a full-page image. A full-page capture includes the entire scrollable page and may record details well beyond the issue you need to show. Before capture, consider whether the image could include a name, balance, account number, customer ID, transaction reference, QR code, contact details, account menu, notification, or unrelated browser window.

Mask selected elements with Playwright
Playwright’s Page screenshot API supports a mask option for selected locators. The mask covers the selected elements’ bounding boxes with an overlay; the example sets that overlay to black. The selector below is illustrative only, not a selector verified on any bank site:

});Adapt selectors only after checking them against a safe test page. Real bank pages may not expose stable selectors, and a selector that misses a field does not protect it. Playwright’s API does not automatically identify every sensitive value. Layout changes, dynamic content, and unexpected notifications can all leave details uncovered.

Capture-time masking can prevent unredacted content from appearing in the target screenshot file, but it is only as complete as the elements you select. Post-capture editing can catch something you did not anticipate, but it means an unredacted original exists and must be protected. A blur may leave text partly legible; when the goal is concealment, use an opaque cover and verify the result.

- Open the saved image itself and examine every edge, panel, header, notification, and background area—not just the part you intended to show.
- Check that concealed values cannot be read in the final image. If you edited after capture, do not share the unredacted original or an editable file that retains it.
- Share only the redacted output. Keep it only as long as needed and remove extra copies using the controls available on your device or service.
- If you cannot verify the output, do not send it to an agent, provider, or recipient; replace it with a synthetic example.
These are prudent handling recommendations, not guarantees about how a particular bank, AI agent, or service stores or deletes data. No specific agent’s processing location, retention, encryption, or training practices are established here; check that product’s current privacy documentation before sending it any page content.

Keep the Aadhaar rule in its proper scope
An RBI KYC amendment dated January 9, 2020 says regulated entities must redact or black out Aadhaar numbers in the specified Video-based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP) context. That statement is scoped to that process; it is not evidence of a universal rule for every screenshot of every bank page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can an AI agent take a screenshot without seeing my bank details?
Not if the agent is given access to a page that visibly contains those details: it may be able to see the page before a screenshot is masked. Use synthetic data when possible; otherwise keep authentication under your control and do not provide secrets to the agent.
Should I blur my account number before sharing a screenshot?
Prefer a solid opaque cover to blur, then inspect the final saved image. Blur can leave text partly legible, and a post-capture edit also means an unredacted original exists.
