Playwright—not the AI agent—provides the deterministic controls for page setup and screenshot capture. Playwright’s emulation documentation describes the locale settings, and its BrowserType API documents viewport configuration.
Set the viewport and locale before opening the page
Create a Playwright browser context with the pixel dimensions and locale you need. Then create a page, navigate to the target URL, and save the screenshot. Setting these options before navigation gives a responsive site the intended viewport from its initial load.

JavaScript example with Playwright
Install Playwright in your project and install its browser binaries as required by your environment. Save this as screenshot.js, replace the example URL and settings, and run it with Node.js:

})();The viewport dimensions are numeric pixel values. Playwright documents 1280×720 as its default consistent viewport; specify your own dimensions when the page must be captured at a particular size. Locale values such as fr-FR, en-GB, and de-DE are examples shown in the documentation. See BrowserType for context options and Emulation for locale behavior.

Choose viewport or full-page capture
By default, page.screenshot() captures the visible viewport. To include the whole scrollable page, set fullPage: true:

Playwright also documents screenshot options for output format and scale; consult the Page API for the available options in your installed version.

What locale changes—and what it does not
Playwright’s locale emulation affects navigator.language, the Accept-Language request header, and number and date formatting rules. It does not guarantee that a site will translate its content or switch to a particular market. The site decides how to use those browser signals, and its localization behavior may also depend on account settings, cookies, or other application logic. If language selection matters to the result, inspect the screenshot and verify the page’s actual content.

If the agent’s runtime already has them configured, the Playwright agent CLI and Playwright MCP offer screenshot interfaces in addition to the direct Page API. Their documented options include viewport, element, and full-page capture; the MCP tool also describes CSS-pixel or device-pixel scaling. Availability and interface details depend on the runtime and installed version, so check the relevant docs before using them.

Troubleshoot an unexpected screenshot
- The layout has the wrong dimensions: Confirm the width and height are set on the context before creating the page and navigating. For an existing page,
page.setViewportSize({ width, height })is available, but Playwright notes that many sites do not expect a phone viewport to change size after load. Resizing also resets screen size; use contextscreenandviewportsettings when they need separate control. See the Page API. - The page did not switch languages: Confirm the locale spelling and check the site’s own language-selection behavior. Locale sets browser signals and formatting; it cannot force a site to translate.
- The image cuts off content you expected to include: Use
fullPage: truefor the full scrollable page. Without it, the capture is limited to the viewport. - The saved file is missing or hard to identify: Use an explicit output path and a filename that records the locale and dimensions, then open the generated file to check the result. For example,
page-fr-1440x900.png. - The script fails to launch: Check that Playwright is installed in the project and that the browser binary required by your environment is available. Confirm the API options against the documentation for the version installed.
