What an AI agent should—and should not—do
For documentation, the agent’s job is to direct browser actions and take a screenshot of the GST portal page after you have reached it through an authorized session. This is different from automating a tax filing. Keep navigation limited to the page and evidence needed.

Before opening the browser, identify the page and details the record must establish. Avoid navigating through unrelated account or taxpayer information just to create a more complete-looking image.
Capture the page with Playwright
Playwright’s documented CLI pattern is to open a page, inspect its snapshot, interact as needed, and take a screenshot. An agent can follow that inspect-then-act loop, but authentication should remain under your control. The exact CLI commands and available flags depend on your installed Playwright version; use the official CLI quick start for the current command syntax.

- Open the relevant page. Start the browser session and navigate only to the intended GST portal page. For a logged-in page, use a session you authenticated yourself through the portal’s permitted process.
- Inspect before interacting. Have the agent examine the page snapshot or visible state and identify the target content. Confirm that the page is the one you intended and that it does not expose more personal or taxpayer information than necessary.
- Make only the necessary navigation. If a control must be used to reveal the relevant content, direct the agent to that specific action. Do not ask it to submit a filing or circumvent a login challenge.
- Capture the right scope. Use a viewport screenshot for what is visible, a target-element screenshot for a specific component, or a full-page screenshot when below-the-fold content is material. Playwright documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP formats, a chosen output filename, and
cssordevicescaling. - Review the saved image. Verify that text is legible, the intended information is present, and no unnecessary data has been captured. Keep the untouched original if required by your organization’s policy; label any redacted or annotated derivative clearly.
Playwright’s screenshot API supports these capture scopes and formats. In a Playwright script, the core calls look like this:

Make the image useful as a record
A screenshot alone may not make clear which page or moment it represents. Save a descriptive filename and accompany it with a note containing the page name or URL, capture date and time, and browser and operating-system environment. For recurring comparisons, also keep the capture scope and environment consistent.
Playwright notes that screenshot rendering can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Its visual comparison guidance recommends creating and comparing baselines in a consistent environment. This is important when judging visual changes: a rendering difference is not automatically a change to the portal’s underlying information.

Minimize personal and taxpayer data in the captured image. If policy permits redaction for sharing, make it on a separate derivative, label that derivative, and preserve the original when required. - The agent cannot get past login. Stop rather than attempting CAPTCHA bypass or sharing credentials. Authenticate yourself in the browser, or check whether a formally supported access path applies.
- The screenshot misses content below the fold. Use full-page capture if the complete scrollable page is needed, then inspect the output for completeness and legibility.
- The screenshot contains too much information. Switch from full-page to viewport or a verified target element if that still records the evidence you need. Review for personal or taxpayer data before sharing.
- A repeated capture looks different. Check browser version, operating system, headless mode, settings, hardware, power conditions, and capture scope; keep them stable for comparisons.
- The image is difficult to interpret later. Add a descriptive filename and a separate note with the page identity, capture time, and environment.
