What the agent needs from the web page
Start by asking the agent to inspect the actual page. Request its title, description, main headings, existing Open Graph and Twitter Card metadata, and—when useful—a screenshot or extracted page content. This gives the agent evidence about the page’s subject and helps avoid a card based on a misleading URL or guess.

Open Graph metadata is the information that lets a page be represented as a rich object in a social graph. The protocol identifies og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url as required properties. It also defines optional image properties such as MIME type, width, height, an HTTPS alternate URL, and og:image:alt. See the Open Graph protocol specification.

Ask it to keep copy short, use one clear visual subject, leave room around text, and report the exported file’s pixel size and format. These instructions improve the odds of a usable result; they do not guarantee legibility or brand accuracy, so review the export.

These are practical distinctions between documented approaches, not measured speed or quality rankings. OpenGraph.io describes using URL metadata, extracted content, and screenshots as context for its image generator, with 16:9, 1:1, 9:16, and 4:1 scenarios; those are its product’s described options, not universal social-platform acceptance guarantees. Build the image and publish it
- Inspect: Provide the agent with the page URL and ask for the page title, description, headings, existing social metadata, and a screenshot or extracted text when useful. Have it summarize the page’s actual subject before designing.
- Choose a route: Use prompt-based generation for original artwork, a code-generated canvas for repeatable layouts, or HTML rendered in a headless browser for precise, data-driven composition.
- Set constraints: Specify the target platform, a short headline or no overlay text, authorized logo and brand colors, a wide composition, safe margins, output format, and dimensions. Ask for one dominant subject and avoid small or dense copy.
- Review the export: Confirm the image names the page accurately, the main visual is relevant, rights are cleared, brand assets are authorized, and important details remain clear at small preview size and after likely cropping.
- Publish a public asset: Place the image in the site’s asset pipeline or use a stable public image URL. A file behind authentication or blocked from a platform crawler cannot serve as a share image.
- Set page metadata: Point
og:imageto the final public asset and include the page’sog:title,og:type, andog:url. Add an accurateog:description; use image metadata such as dimensions, MIME type, and alt text when applicable. - Verify after deployment: Check the final public page with the target platform’s preview or audit tool. Confirm that the deployed tags point to the final file and that the preview actually fetches it; a local export alone does not confirm crawler access.
Size and delivery checks for social platforms
There is no single image size that every social service is established to display identically. Check the target platform’s current documentation and preview checker, and keep essential text and logos away from edges because crops can differ.

LinkedIn’s shareability guidance lists Open Graph fields including og:title, og:image, og:description, and og:url. It specifies a 5 MB maximum file size, minimum dimensions of 1200 × 627 pixels, and a recommended 1.91:1 ratio for its sharing module. It says images narrower than 401 pixels display as thumbnails and notes that protected or blocked image URLs can prevent retrieval. The page reports it was last updated two years before the research date, 2026-10-03, so confirm the current limits before relying on them. See LinkedIn shareability guidance.

Troubleshooting before you share the page
- The card describes the wrong subject: The agent may have inferred from the URL alone. Ask it to retrieve the page content and headings, then compare the final copy and image with the page.
- The platform shows no image: Check that the deployed
og:imagepoints to the final asset and that the URL is public and stable. Remove authentication or crawler blocks that prevent retrieval, then run the platform preview check again. - The image is cropped badly: Keep key text and logos inside generous safe margins, inspect the card at preview size, and check the target platform’s current preview behavior.
- The image looks inconsistent with the site: Specify authorized brand assets and colors in the brief, or use a deterministic template to control type and layout. Inspect every generated card rather than assuming output is on-brand.
- The export misses platform constraints: Ask the agent to report dimensions and file size, compare them with the target platform’s current published requirements, and re-export to fit.
- The metadata changed but the old preview remains: Verify the deployed HTML and image URL first, then use the platform’s preview or audit mechanism to check what it can retrieve. A change in local files does not establish that a crawler can access the new asset.
Final human review
- The image and text accurately represent the page.
- The visual is relevant and its usage rights are cleared; logos and other brand assets are used with permission.
- Text remains readable in a small preview and key elements survive cropping.
- The image meets the target platform’s current dimensions and file-size guidance.
- The image URL is public and stable, and the deployed tags reference the final asset.
- The actual share preview has been inspected after deployment.
