Safest option: use a synthetic or demo banking page instead of a real account. If a real session is essential, keep the account holder in control, have the agent capture only the smallest necessary page area, mask known sensitive fields, inspect the resulting image before sharing it, then log out and close the browser. A screenshot mask is not a guarantee that the agent or other software never had access to the underlying information.
Protect account information before taking a screenshot
Indian Bank says user IDs and passwords for banking websites, card numbers and PINs, account numbers, and online financial information are highly confidential and should not be shared. Its security guidance was last modified July 5, 2026. This advice is for banking security generally, not a procedure written specifically for AI agents.

For a task that can be demonstrated without customer data, create or use a mock-up, synthetic page, or bank demo. This reduces the information at risk and is preferable to opening a live account just to produce an example screenshot.

If a real account session is unavoidable, keep the account holder—not the agent—in control of authentication. Do not put a user ID, password, PIN, card details, or one-time password (OTP) in the agent’s prompt or context, or ask the agent to enter them. This is a cautious way to apply the bank’s confidentiality guidance; it is not a bank-approved AI-agent protocol.

Use Playwright to capture only what is needed
Playwright can capture a selected element rather than the whole page, and its screenshot API can overlay masks on selected locators. The example below is for a page you are authorized to view. It assumes you have already opened and authenticated to the page yourself; it does not automate banking credentials or OTP entry.
Install Playwright
In a new project, install Playwright and its Chromium browser:

Capture an element and mask known sensitive fields
Save this as capture.mjs. Set BANK_URL to the page you are authorized to access, and adjust the selectors to match the specific page. The script waits for you to authenticate manually in the opened browser, then captures only the target element. It masks selected fields in the screenshot output.

The sample selectors are only starting points, not a complete way to identify sensitive content. Choose the capture scope and mask deliberately
- Prefer an element screenshot: choose the smallest element that contains the information needed. A full-page screenshot can include unrelated personal data elsewhere on the page.
- Mask fields that appear in the chosen view: a mask overlays the selected locator’s bounding box in the screenshot. It does not discover sensitive fields for you, and a selector that misses a field leaves it visible.
- Review the output image: verify the masks cover every value that should be hidden and that the screenshot contains no unwanted details. Treat the image and any preview as sensitive until checked.
- Keep files controlled: Playwright can return screenshot data as a buffer or save it to a file. Store the result somewhere private and avoid shared folders or external processing until you have reviewed it.
Masking applies to the rendered screenshot output. It does not prove that the agent, browser context, logs, external services, or another capture path could not access or retain the underlying page data. Do not present a masked screenshot as proof that no upstream exposure occurred. Editing an image after capture is also too late to prevent the original screenshot from containing the unmasked pixels; if you must redact afterward, protect the original as sensitive and do not distribute it.
Finish the banking session safely
- Verify the banking site uses HTTPS before interacting with it.
- Avoid saving banking passwords in the browser.
- When finished, log out and close the browser.
- Do not conduct financial transactions on public terminals. RBI’s Be Aware internet-browsing guidance also advises against saving passwords on public devices.
These are general safe-banking practices from Indian Bank and RBI, not technical requirements specific to screenshot agents. Indian Bank’s Digital Personal Data Protection Policy discusses safeguards, retention, authorized staff access, and disclosure conditions; it does not describe AI screenshot agents or attest to third-party AI providers. RBI’s card-issuer customer-information notification has its own scope and should not be read as a legal conclusion about every screenshot workflow.

The target selector is not found
The page may have changed, the target may load only after authentication, or the selector may be wrong. Inspect the page manually and use a selector that identifies the intended container. Do not broaden the capture to the full page merely to make the script succeed.

A sensitive value remains visible
The mask selector may not match the rendered field, or the sensitive value may be displayed in a different element. Stop before sharing, update the selectors for the actual page, recapture, and inspect the resulting image again. A mask is only as comprehensive as the elements selected.
The page has not finished loading when you capture
Wait until the intended page content is visible before pressing Enter. For dynamic pages, add a page-specific wait for a stable, non-sensitive container rather than relying on a fixed delay; do not log sensitive page contents to diagnose loading.
The browser closes or the output file is missing
Check that Chromium installed successfully, that the process has write permission in the current directory, and that the target element exists. The finally block closes the browser on errors; rerun only after checking the script and output path, and keep any existing image private until reviewed.
A blank or incomplete image appears
Confirm that authentication and navigation are complete and that the selected target is visible in the browser. If the site presents a bot check, do not try to evade it; use a demo page or stop the automated capture.
FAQ
Does masking mean the AI agent never saw the account details?
No. Screenshot masks alter the screenshot output. They do not establish what data the browser or agent could access or whether another component retained it.
Should I use a public computer for this workflow?
No. RBI advises against using public terminals for financial transactions and against saving passwords on public devices.
