Does Alexa+ work on every Fire TV Stick?
Amazon says Alexa+ is included on compatible Fire TV devices, including current-generation Fire TV Sticks, for U.S. customers. Its announcement does not list every compatible Stick generation, so check Amazon’s current compatibility information and your device’s software status if you have an older model. Availability and supported features may vary by model and region.

- Connect and update your Stick. Make sure it is online and running current software. Amazon says eligible devices receive the Alexa+ upgrade automatically; you do not need to download a separate Alexa+ app or activate a subscription for the Fire TV experience.
- Press and hold the Alexa button. Speak into the remote while holding its Alexa voice-control button. Amazon’s basic Fire TV Stick guide also gives conventional commands such as “Alexa, launch Prime Video” and “Alexa, show me popular comedies.”
- Describe what you want naturally. You do not have to know a title. Try a genre, mood, actor, or story description—for example, “Recommend me a top-rated thriller.”
- Refine the answer in the same conversation. Add a follow-up such as “something newer” to narrow the suggestions. You can also ask a related question about an actor or another topic while watching.
- Ask for a home action or information. For linked, compatible devices, you can request an action such as dimming the lights or locking a smart lock. You can also ask for information such as the weather, recipe ideas, sports scores, or a timer.
- Move a show to another Fire TV. If you have another Fire TV in your home, Amazon’s example is: “Alexa, move this show to the Fire TV in my bedroom.”
What Alexa+ can do on Fire TV
Find and refine entertainment
Ask for films or shows by genre, mood, favorite actor, or descriptive qualities, then use follow-up requests to refine the results. Amazon says Alexa+ can use conversational context and customer preferences to make recommendations more relevant. Results depend on what is available to you and what the device can access.

Ask about something you are watching
Alexa+ can handle questions related to on-screen entertainment. Amazon’s examples include asking how many movies an actor has appeared in and then asking whether that actor is still on tour.
Continue Prime Video on another Fire TV
Ask Alexa+ to move the current show to another Fire TV in your home. The example Amazon provides is, “Alexa, move this show to the Fire TV in my bedroom.”

Control compatible smart-home devices
You can ask Alexa+ to adjust compatible lighting or operate a compatible smart lock—for example, “Alexa, lock the door.” The device must be compatible, linked to Alexa, and permitted to perform the requested action.

View a linked Ring camera
Amazon gives “Alexa, show the front door” as an example for displaying a connected Ring camera feed on the TV. Access to specific Ring camera moments is listed among the additional features associated with Prime membership or an Alexa+ Standard Plan.

Amazon lists weather, recipe recommendations, sports scores, and timers among the kinds of requests Alexa+ can handle on Fire TV.
What is included, and what may require Prime or an Alexa+ plan?
Amazon distinguishes the Alexa+ experience on eligible Fire TV devices from additional access and features. The Fire TV experience is described as included at no additional cost for eligible customers. Amazon associates Prime membership or its Alexa+ Standard Plan with use on compatible Echo devices and additional Fire TV features, including Alexa Routines, access to specific Ring camera moments, and advanced Home Modes. Availability: current features versus announced updates
Amazon’s September 30, 2026 announcement said a further set of Alexa+ Fire TV updates would begin rolling out in the U.S. in November 2026, initially for Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember TVs, and partner TVs. Amazon said expansion to the new Fire TV Stick 4K and more countries was planned for early 2027. These are announced future rollout plans as of October 7, 2026, not features to assume are already available on every Stick.
What Amazon’s usage figures mean
Amazon reported in 2026 that customers had nearly twice as many Fire TV conversations with Alexa+ as with original Alexa, and selected Alexa’s top movie recommendation over 40% more frequently for search queries than with original Alexa. These are figures reported by Amazon in its announcement, not independent performance measurements.
