You can use AI-generated music in a YouTube video only if your rights cover that use; disclosing AI use does not grant a music license or prevent a Content ID claim. YouTube specifically lists AI-generated music as content creators should disclose, and says disclosure itself does not limit reach or eligibility to earn money. Before uploading, verify the track’s license permits your intended use, keep evidence of that permission, and handle any claim according to its details.
What you need to know before using AI-generated music
- Disclose the AI use: In YouTube’s upload flow, answer Yes to the AI disclosure when the video includes AI-generated music. YouTube lists this as an example of content creators need to disclose. YouTube’s disclosure guidance says disclosure does not by itself limit audience reach or eligibility to earn money.
- Clear the music rights separately: Disclosure tells viewers about AI use; it is not permission to use the track. YouTube’s general guidance identifies public-domain material and permission from the copyright owner as safe routes, and advises checking third-party licenses for permitted uses. YouTube’s music guidance
- Expect that a claim is still possible: Content ID can match audio even if you believe you have a license. “Free” or “royalty-free” wording does not tell YouTube that a track is cleared for your video.
No AI label or upload setting can promise a claim-free video. Whether a particular track is legally original or adequately licensed depends on the track and its terms, not simply on how it was made.

Check the license before you publish
Read the current terms for the specific generator, track, and plan you used. Confirm the license expressly covers the way you intend to publish the video. A provider’s general statement that its music is free or royalty-free may not answer every relevant question.
- Does the license allow commercial use and monetized YouTube videos?
- Are there limits by country or territory, license duration, or channel type?
- Is attribution required, and what exact credit must appear?
- Does the license restrict redistribution, reuse, or registering the track with Content ID or another fingerprinting system?
- What evidence can you save, and does the provider explain how to handle mistaken claims?
YouTube recommends reviewing the license for third-party music, but that guidance does not establish a ranking of AI music services or confirm the terms of any particular provider. If the license is unclear about monetized videos, territories, ownership, or Content ID, ask the provider before publishing or choose music with clear permissions. YouTube also points creators to options such as its Audio Library, Creator Music in certain regions, original music, and third-party music licensed for the intended use. YouTube’s music guidance

Keep proof of the permission you rely on
Save records that make it possible to identify both the track and the terms that applied when you obtained it. This is practical preparation, not a YouTube-mandated document checklist.
- The audio file and track or generation identifier.
- The provider, account or plan, and date the track was generated or obtained.
- A copy or screenshot of the relevant license terms as they appeared at that time.
- A receipt, account record, or provider statement that addresses monetized YouTube use.
These records can help you explain your basis if a claim appears. YouTube advises disputing a claim only when you have a valid basis; documentation can help support that explanation. YouTube’s dispute guidance

Disclose the music during upload
- In YouTube Studio, begin uploading the video and proceed through the upload details.
- In the altered or synthetic content disclosure section, select Yes if the video contains AI-generated music. YouTube’s creator guidance specifically names AI-generated music as an example requiring disclosure. Disclosure instructions
- Complete the rest of the upload process. Treat this disclosure separately from your license check: selecting Yes does not clear copyright or affect whether a particular track may be used.
What a Content ID claim means
Content ID checks uploaded audio against reference material. A claim may monetize, track, or block a video, and the policy can vary by territory. A Content ID claim is not the same thing as a copyright takedown or strike. YouTube notes that its system cannot tell whether you bought music rights elsewhere or whether your use qualifies for an exception. YouTube’s safe-music tips · How Content ID claims work
A “free” label in a description does not stop a match or prove to Content ID that you have permission. If you receive a claim, inspect the actual claimant, matched segment, and policy in YouTube Studio rather than relying on the track’s marketing description.

Respond to a claim based on your rights
Review the claim details
In YouTube Studio, open the video’s copyright or restriction details. Check who made the claim, which portion of the audio is identified, and what policy applies. Then compare those details with the license and records you saved.
If you do not have sufficient permission
Do not dispute just because the music was AI-generated, labeled free, or used without monetization. If the claim is valid or your license does not cover the video, you can leave it in place or remove the claimed audio. YouTube offers options such as trimming the segment, erasing or muting the song, or replacing it with music from the Audio Library. YouTube’s options for resolving claims

If you have a defensible basis to dispute
Dispute only if you have the necessary rights, a valid copyright exception, or a credible basis that the match or claim is an error. State the specific reason and keep supporting records. YouTube says that giving credit, owning a copy of the song, or choosing not to monetize the video are not valid reasons by themselves. The claimant has 30 days to respond to a dispute. Do not confuse a video-use license with Content ID ownership
Permission to include music in a video does not necessarily give you the exclusive rights needed to submit it as Content ID reference material. YouTube’s eligibility rules require exclusive rights in the territories where reference material is claimed. Check those requirements separately before attempting to enroll a track.
