Short answer: Aang and Katara are announced playable racers in the Avatar Legends Pack, scheduled on SEGA’s site for October 14, 2026. As of October 13, no authoritative source in the available material publishes their CrossWorlds attributes, class labels, or unique ability effects. You can still prepare an effective setup: unlock the correct downloadable content, choose a vehicle that matches your driving habits, and use the game’s gadget system to tune handling, drifting, tricks, or item play. After launch, compare both characters under identical vehicle and gadget settings rather than assuming one has a superior build.
What is confirmed about Aang and Katara
The Avatar Legends Pack is announced to add Aang and Katara as playable characters in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The same pack advertises the Gliding Air vehicle, the Lion Turtle Island course, emotes, and additional sounds. SEGA lists the pack for October 14, 2026; that date was still one day away at the latest available information point, October 13, 2026.

Those announcements establish availability and bundled content, not racing performance. The consulted official descriptions do not state Aang’s or Katara’s acceleration, top speed, handling, boost, defense, or item values. They also do not identify a character specialty or describe an exclusive active or passive ability. Any guide claiming a verified “best Aang build,” a superior Katara stat line, or a confirmed bending-based racing effect before those details appear in-game is speculation.

Make sure the downloadable content is installed
Aang and Katara are downloadable content, not characters guaranteed by every copy of the base game. SEGA’s purchase guide describes the Digital Deluxe Edition as including the base game and Season Pass. The Season Pass unlocks crossover characters, courses, and machines as they are released. A base-game listing by itself should not be treated as proof that the Avatar Legends Pack is included.

Check the edition and platform
- Open the store page for the platform on which you play CrossWorlds.
- Read the edition’s included-content list. Look specifically for the Avatar Legends Pack or a Season Pass that covers released crossover content.
- After purchase or entitlement, open your platform’s downloadable-content or add-on list and confirm that the pack is installed.
- Launch CrossWorlds, allow any update to finish, and check the racer-selection screen for Aang and Katara. If the characters are absent, restart the game after the add-on installation completes.
Storefront timing, region, edition names, and the way an entitlement is delivered can differ. Confirm those details on your own platform rather than relying on a listing from another console or territory.
How CrossWorlds gadgets affect your plan
CrossWorlds includes gadgets that modify a racer’s playstyle with stat boosts and gameplay modifiers. A 2025 TechRadar review gives examples affecting tricks, drifting, and items. That makes gadgets the most defensible way to prepare a build while Aang’s and Katara’s own values are unknown: start from the race behavior you want, then test whether a gadget improves it.
Do not infer a gadget’s value from the character’s fictional bending style. Aang’s airbending and Katara’s waterbending are not evidence that either racer receives a particular drift, trick, or item bonus in CrossWorlds. Use the in-game description and the displayed attribute changes as your evidence.
Choose a driving objective first
- Drift-focused: Prioritize predictable corner entry, sustained drift control, and a boost you can trigger consistently. Test a drifting-related modifier before adding a second effect.
- Trick-focused: Use a gadget that improves or rewards tricks if the course layout gives you frequent ramps, jumps, or other opportunities. A trick bonus is less useful on a route with few launch points.
- Item-focused: Select an item-oriented modifier when you win races by defending a position, creating openings, or recovering after contact. Record whether the benefit helps you obtain, use, or survive item exchanges; those are different outcomes.
- Balanced: Keep one gadget that supports your weakest displayed attribute and one that reinforces your normal tactic. This is a starting hypothesis, not a proven Aang or Katara formula.
Build a fair Aang-versus-Katara comparison
When the pack is live, compare the racers under controlled conditions. Changing the vehicle and gadgets between runs can make a vehicle effect look like a character effect.

Record the displayed data
- Select Aang and write down every attribute or specialty label shown on the character screen.
- Repeat the process for Katara, including any text describing a unique ability, passive, or class.
- Choose one vehicle and keep it unchanged for both characters.
- Equip the same gadgets in the same slots and note any resulting stat changes.
- Use the same course, race mode, number of opponents, and assist settings for both tests.
If the game does not display a value, write “not stated” in your notes instead of converting a visual impression into a number.
Use repeated runs, not one lucky race
Run several races with each character on the same course and setup. Record finishing position, major collisions, missed turns, drift stability, boost opportunities, trick opportunities, item interactions, and recoveries after a mistake. One race can be dominated by an unusual item sequence or an opponent’s collision; a repeated pattern is more informative.
| Test axis | Keep constant | What to observe |
|---|---|---|
| Displayed attributes | Character-screen view and game version | Any published differences in speed, acceleration, handling, boost, defense, or specialty text. |
| Handling feel | Vehicle, gadgets, course, assists | Corner entry, steering correction, drift initiation, and recovery from oversteer. |
| Drift tactic | Same corner sequence and boost timing goal | Whether each racer supports your intended line reliably. |
| Trick tactic | Same jumps and trick inputs | Consistency of launches, landings, and post-trick speed. |
| Item tactic | Same mode and comparable race positions | Whether an item modifier changes your decisions or merely your perception of luck. |
| Reliability | Same player, route, and setup | How often the build produces the intended result, not the single fastest run. |
Separate character effects from gadget effects
After the first controlled comparison, remove one gadget and repeat the relevant test. Then restore the gadget and change only the character. This simple A/B sequence helps answer two different questions: whether Aang and Katara differ intrinsically, and whether a gadget magnifies or hides that difference. Keep notes on the game version because a balance update can invalidate earlier observations.

The following are test plans, not confirmed character builds. They use the gadget system’s documented ability to influence tricks, drifting, and items without assigning an unsupported specialty to either Avatar racer.

Corner-control setup
- Use a vehicle whose displayed handling suits your current level of steering control.
- Equip one drifting-oriented gadget, if available, and leave the second slot unchanged or neutral for the first comparison.
- Practice the same three difficult corners with Aang and Katara.
- Track whether you can enter, hold, and exit each drift without corrective steering. Choose the racer that produces fewer failed corners for your actual technique, not the one that feels faster on a straight.
Jump-and-trick setup
- Select a course with repeatable ramps or airborne sections.
- Use a trick-related gadget and keep the vehicle constant.
- Attempt the same trick sequence on every lap, including a safe landing rather than a risky maximum-input attempt.
- Compare completed tricks, landing errors, and the time gained after landing. A theoretical trick benefit is not useful if it causes frequent crashes.
Item-survival setup
- Use an item-oriented gadget only after recording a baseline without it.
- Compare how often you hold a position, recover from an attack, or create an overtake opportunity.
- Do not treat random item availability as a character statistic. Run enough comparable races to distinguish a modifier’s effect from normal race variance.
Learning setup for a new racer
- Begin with the least complicated gadget combination you can explain in one sentence.
- Keep the vehicle familiar so that you are learning the character rather than several systems at once.
- Change one component after you can identify a specific weakness, such as missed drifts or poor recovery.
How to test Gliding Air and Lion Turtle Island
The pack’s advertised Gliding Air vehicle and Lion Turtle Island course give you a useful environment for learning the new content, but their inclusion does not prove a special interaction with Aang or Katara. Test them as separate variables.
- Drive Lion Turtle Island with your established vehicle and a neutral gadget setup using each racer.
- Repeat the route with Gliding Air and the same gadget setup.
- Compare the vehicle change separately from the character change. If both are changed together, you cannot tell which one caused a handling difference.
- Look for repeatable lines, jumps, drift zones, and item locations. Record them as course knowledge rather than assuming they are an Avatar ability.
If Gliding Air has a vehicle-specific stat or control behavior shown in-game, record that description exactly and evaluate it independently of the racers.
Troubleshooting common launch-day problems
The characters do not appear
- Verify that the store entitlement is for the same platform, account, and region as your game.
- Check whether the pack is listed as installed rather than merely purchased.
- Install the latest game update, then fully close and relaunch CrossWorlds.
- Confirm that your edition includes the Avatar Legends Pack directly or through the Season Pass. The base game alone is not sufficient unless the listing explicitly says the pack is included.
The game shows the pack but not its content
Check the platform’s add-on management screen, wait for the download to finish, and restart the game. If the store lists a release date but the add-on is not yet downloadable in your region, the displayed date may not equal your local release time.

- Read whether its effect applies only to a particular action, mode, or situation.
- Check the displayed stat panel before and after equipping it.
- Test the action repeatedly in a controlled section of a course.
- Remove other modifiers that could mask the result.
A racer feels different after an update
Write down the game version, character, vehicle, gadgets, and course before drawing a conclusion. Re-run the same comparison after a patch; launch-day observations are not automatically valid after balance changes.

What information to look for after release
A useful post-release comparison should include four kinds of evidence:
- Displayed attributes: the exact values or bars shown by the game for Aang and Katara.
- Stated specialty: any official class label or ability description, quoted or transcribed from the in-game interface.
- Controlled handling results: repeated races using the same vehicle, gadgets, course, and assist settings.
- Tactical reliability: whether the setup consistently supports your chosen drifting, trick, item, or balanced approach.
Do not rank one character from a single time trial if the other was tested in a different vehicle. Likewise, do not call a character’s ability “better” merely because it suits a different playstyle. Report the condition under which the advantage appears.
Frequently overlooked details
- The pack’s announcement confirms characters and bundled content, not their competitive tier.
- Fictional powers do not automatically map to gameplay modifiers.
- Gadgets can alter the feel of a racer enough to obscure a small base-stat difference.
- A vehicle swap is a meaningful experimental change, not a cosmetic decision.
- Regional storefront availability may differ from the date shown on SEGA’s site.
- Season Pass ownership should be checked against the platform’s current edition description; do not assume every deluxe or special edition contains every future pack.
Recommended decision process
- Confirm your edition, platform, region, and Avatar Legends Pack entitlement.
- Read the in-game Aang and Katara panels when the pack is available and record every displayed value.
- Pick the driving objective that matches your own results: drifting, tricks, items, or balance.
- Choose one vehicle and one relevant gadget as a baseline.
- Run the same course repeatedly with Aang, then Katara.
- Change only one variable at a time and retain notes by game version.
- Keep the racer and setup that most reliably supports your tactic, even if another produces a faster isolated run.
This method gives you a defensible answer to “which character should I use?” without inventing statistics that have not been published. Until the pack is live and its interface can be checked, the honest answer is that Aang and Katara’s specific abilities remain unverified.
