Upload the finished video, schedule it as a Premiere in YouTube Studio, then share its watch page so viewers can set reminders and join the chat. A Premiere is shared playback of an uploaded video—not a live camera broadcast. Choose a live stream when people need to see the service unfold in real time.
Premiere or live stream: which suits your service?

YouTube Help describes the distinction this way: “Live streams let you watch media that’s broadcasted in real-time on YouTube. Premieres let you watch a new video with creators and their community in real-time.” A Premiere can make a prerecorded service feel like a scheduled shared gathering, but it does not show events as they happen.

How to schedule a church service as a Premiere
- Prepare the finished service video. A Premiere starts from a video uploaded in advance; it is not a camera feed. Shorts are not supported for Premieres. YouTube’s help page also documents output-resolution limitations, so check the current supported formats and resolution guidance before exporting the service.
- Open YouTube Studio and upload the video. Sign in to the church’s YouTube channel, open YouTube Studio, and upload the completed recording. Enter the video details as you normally would.
- Schedule the video and select Premiere. In the upload workflow, choose a date and time, select Set as Premiere, and choose countdown settings if you want to customize them. Then schedule it. YouTube creates a public watch page before the start.
- Share the watch page. Send the link through the church’s usual communications. Viewers can visit ahead of time, set a reminder, comment, and chat.
- Host the event. At the scheduled time, the countdown runs and the video begins. A church host or moderator can welcome viewers and follow the chat.
- Leave the replay available as appropriate. After the Premiere ends, the video remains on the channel as a regular upload, and chat replay is available.
Promote the event and plan participation
YouTube recommends scheduling a Premiere at least 24 hours ahead so viewers have an opportunity to see its thumbnail in their subscriptions feed. Share the watch page directly and invite people to set a reminder. YouTube also suggests being present in chat, moderating it, and preparing prompts or talking points. Adapt those ideas to the congregation’s communication style and available volunteers; YouTube’s guidance does not establish that these practices increase church attendance or engagement.
- Assign someone to welcome viewers and monitor chat while the video plays.
- Prepare a few appropriate prompts or talking points rather than relying on spontaneous moderation.
- Tell viewers that the service is prerecorded and explain when the shared playback begins.
When a real-time broadcast is the better choice
Choose YouTube Live if viewers need to see the service as it unfolds—for example, when the timing or participation depends on events happening in the room. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as live-stream methods. An encoder is relevant to the live-broadcast route, not required for uploading and scheduling a Premiere.

YouTube says a channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person live streaming must be at least 16. These are YouTube’s stated requirements; confirm current eligibility in the channel before planning a service, since platform rules and interface details can change.
Features to check before scheduling
Countdown customization is optional. YouTube also documents trailers and monetization features, but some features have eligibility conditions. Check whether the church’s channel has access rather than assuming they are available.
