That can keep the encoder off your home computer, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming: the VPS, network route, Windows restarts, OBS, YouTube, and music rights can all affect availability.
Check YouTube eligibility and music rights first
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and belong to a person at least 16 years old. A VPS cannot remove an account restriction, so confirm eligibility on the channel you intend to use before setting up the server.

Clear the music and visuals for live use
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can interrupt or terminate a stream or replace it with a placeholder. YouTube also notes that a licensed third-party content owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to proceed without interruption. Confirm that your permission covers live YouTube streaming and the territories where you expect the stream to be available. Buying a track, crediting its artist, or having a subscription does not by itself establish those rights. Check YouTube’s current copyright guidance for live streams and resolve any required allowlisting with the rights holder before going public.

Choose where the encoder will run

No particular Mumbai VPS provider, plan, uptime commitment, Windows license term, traffic quota, or route quality is established here. Before choosing a provider, confirm those details directly and check whether its outbound-traffic rules allow continuous video streaming. For a one-way music broadcast, a stable sustained upload path and a practical recovery method matter more than assuming the nearest city is automatically best.
Build the OBS stream and configure YouTube ingest
Prepare one simple radio scene
Install OBS on the Windows VPS and create a scene with the authorized music source, a static or gently animated visual, and station identification if desired. The exact scene design depends on your program; make sure the audio continues between tracks and the visual behaves as intended during a long run. The VPS needs enough CPU and memory for the chosen scene and encoding settings, so test the actual configuration rather than assuming a specification.

Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow to set up the broadcast and obtain its stream key.
- Choose RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the server details and stream key from YouTube Studio. Do not expose the key in screenshots, public scripts, or logs; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Set compatible video and audio output. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and frame rates up to 60 fps. For a mostly static music-radio visual, choose a modest resolution and bitrate the VPS can sustain steadily; higher settings are not automatically useful for a simple scene.
- Set the keyframe interval. YouTube recommends two seconds and specifies no more than four seconds. Check the encoder’s output settings after configuring them; do not assume a profile or preset selected the required interval.
- Match bitrate to the tested route. YouTube publishes bitrate recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate on its encoder settings page. Consult the row for your actual output rather than treating one bitrate as universal. The provider’s sustained upload capacity must cover the outgoing stream reliably; a short speed test is not proof that a VPS route will hold that rate continuously.
There is no single resolution or bitrate that fits every music stream. Use the lowest quality that meets your visual needs and remains stable on the selected VPS route. If frames drop or YouTube reports poor stream health, reduce output load and test again before relying on automation.
Test the whole broadcast before automating it
- Start with an unlisted test if appropriate. Use representative audio, visual motion, resolution, and bitrate rather than a blank scene or short placeholder.
- Check YouTube Studio’s stream health and messages. YouTube recommends testing in advance and monitoring the event. Confirm that the ingest is accepted and that no encoder warnings appear.
- Verify playback from the viewer side. Check the live page for audible, continuous audio, correct visuals, and any obvious delay or interruption.
- Test the loop and reconnect behavior. Confirm that the playlist or audio source advances as expected and that OBS can reconnect after a deliberate test interruption.
- Plan a recovery action. Decide how you will learn that the stream stopped, access the VPS, and restart OBS or the broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming tips include advance checks and monitoring; a launch shortcut alone does not detect a failure or guarantee recovery.
Start OBS streaming when Windows launches
OBS documents the Windows launch parameter --startstreaming as a way to start streaming automatically. It can be added to an OBS shortcut, but this only tells OBS to begin streaming when launched. It does not restart a crashed encoder, resolve a YouTube interruption, or guarantee that Windows will not restart at an inconvenient time.

- Locate OBS. Find the installed
obs64.exefile on the VPS. - Create or edit a shortcut. In the shortcut’s Target field, retain the executable path and append
--startstreamingafter it. Keep the executable path correctly quoted if it contains spaces. - Set the working directory. In the shortcut’s Start in field, use the folder containing
obs64.exe. OBS calls this out for automated or scheduled launches in its launch-parameter documentation. - Arrange startup and access. Configure Windows or your chosen task method to launch the shortcut after startup, and confirm you can reach the VPS remotely if OBS fails or requests attention. Test a controlled reboot before treating the setup as ready.
Protect the Windows account and stream key, and avoid placing the key in a task command, shared script, screenshot, or log. Schedule operating-system maintenance and restarts for a time when you can check the encoder and YouTube broadcast afterward. A VPS reboot, a changed login state, an OBS error, a network interruption, or a YouTube-side stop can still take the stream offline.
Understand the limits of a continuous YouTube stream
- “24/7” is an operating goal, not an uptime guarantee. Availability depends on the VPS staying powered and connected, the route to YouTube, Windows behavior, OBS recovery, and YouTube accepting the feed.
- Location does not prove route quality. A Mumbai VPS may be convenient for an Indian operator, but no measured Mumbai-to-YouTube latency or provider comparison establishes that it will be more reliable.
- Plan monitoring and maintenance. Know how you will notice a stopped feed, access the VPS, and restore the stream. Account for provider maintenance, Windows updates, restarts, and the possibility that a restart does not reopen OBS as expected.
- Do not rely on a complete archive of a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That threshold is not a promise of a complete archive for an uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours. If you need a recording, plan and verify a separate recording workflow and check YouTube Studio behavior.
- Single-station limits rarely affect this setup. YouTube’s current help page states limits of 10 simultaneous active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. These matter if you operate multiple concurrent broadcasts, not for an ordinary single-station stream.
