On compatible Pixel phones, Google’s Connected Cameras feature lets Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok switch between the phone’s camera and one external camera. The external source can be another eligible Pixel, a GoPro, or a USB Video Class (UVC) camera, depending on the Pixel model. It is a camera-switching system, not a way to show several external cameras simultaneously.

Turn it on at Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → Connected Cameras, open a supported app, and use its Camera Picker. The picker counts down before changing the view; choose My Pixel to return to the phone camera.

What Pixel Connected Cameras actually does

Connected Cameras adds approved external cameras to the camera selector inside five supported apps: Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. You can move from the Pixel’s built-in camera to an external source while using one of those apps, then switch back.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google documents switching between cameras. It does not document a layout that displays several external feeds at once, synchronized recording from multiple cameras, or a control for combining multiple angles into one broadcast. In practice, treat the feature as one active video source at a time.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
  • Active source: either the Pixel camera or one connected external camera.
  • Camera Picker: the in-app control used to add, select, and change sources.
  • Countdown: after you select a source, the picker indicates a countdown and changes the view when it ends.
  • Audio: sound comes from the camera currently in use. Google warns that Bluetooth audio can reduce streaming quality.

The exact external-camera choices depend on the Pixel family. Check the compatibility section before buying a camera or planning a Pixel-to-Pixel setup.

Check your Pixel model and camera type first

Google’s compatibility descriptions divide Pixel phones into three groups. The support material does not name specific GoPro or USB-camera models, so a camera being sold as a GoPro or webcam is not, by itself, proof that it will work.

Pixel device External cameras Google lists Important qualification
Pixel 6 and later, except Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series models Another eligible Pixel, a GoPro, or a UVC USB camera Pixel-to-Pixel use is included for this group when the other requirements are met.
Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series from Pixel 6a onward GoPro or UVC USB camera Google does not list another Pixel as an external camera for these models.
Pixel Tablet USB camera Google lists USB cameras only, not another Pixel or a GoPro.

For USB, the camera must support the USB Video Class (UVC) specification. Google’s stated requirement is: “Only USB cameras with USB Video Class (UVC) specification are supported.” Verify UVC support for the exact model and confirm that it works with your Pixel and the app you intend to use.

Account and service requirements

  • Connected devices must be signed in to the same Google Account.
  • For a second Pixel, cross-device services must be enabled on both phones.
  • The app must be one of the five listed by Google. A camera appearing in the Android system does not make it available to every app.
  • Google does not publish a universal list of supported GoPro models or UVC camera models in the cited help material. Compatibility can therefore vary by model, firmware, USB connection, and app implementation.

Turn on Connected Cameras

  1. On the Pixel that will run the app, open Settings.
  2. Tap Connected devices.
  3. Open Connection preferences.
  4. Tap Connected Cameras.
  5. Turn on Use Connected Cameras.

Repeat the relevant account and cross-device checks before connecting another Pixel. If you are using USB, have a data-capable cable and the camera ready; a charge-only cable cannot carry the video connection.

Use another Pixel as a camera

This option is available only where Google lists another eligible Pixel for the receiving phone. It is not listed for Pixel 10, the Pixel A-series from Pixel 6a onward, or Pixel Tablet.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
  1. Enable Use Connected Cameras on the receiving Pixel.
  2. Make sure both phones use the same Google Account.
  3. Enable cross-device services on both phones.
  4. Open Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok on the receiving Pixel.
  5. Open the app’s Camera Picker and choose Add Pixel.
  6. Select the second phone from the available devices.
  7. Approve the permission prompt on the second Pixel.
  8. When the second Pixel appears in the picker, select it. Wait for the countdown to finish before framing the shot.

To return to the receiving phone’s built-in camera, open the picker and select My Pixel. The external Pixel is still a single source: selecting it replaces the active view rather than creating a split-screen or picture-in-picture layout.

Connect a USB UVC camera

A UVC camera communicates through the standard USB Video Class protocol. This is the category Google supports; it is not a promise that every USB webcam, capture device, or camera with a USB socket will work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm that the camera’s specifications explicitly state UVC support.
  2. Connect the camera to the eligible Pixel with a suitable data-capable USB connection.
  3. Open one of the five supported apps.
  4. When Android asks for USB camera access, grant the permission.
  5. Open the app’s Camera Picker and select the connected USB camera.
  6. Wait for the picker’s countdown and verify the preview before beginning or continuing the stream.

If the camera is powered separately, turn it on before opening the picker. If it draws power from the Pixel, watch for a connection that repeatedly disconnects; that can indicate a cable, hub, or power limitation rather than an app setting. Google’s documentation does not specify maximum resolution, frame rate, latency, cable length, hub support, or simultaneous recording limits, so those characteristics must be confirmed for the particular camera and setup.

Use a GoPro as the external angle

Google lists GoPro cameras as an external-camera category for Pixel 6 and later models in the eligible groups, and for Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series phones where another Pixel is not listed. The support material does not identify compatible GoPro model numbers. Before relying on a particular camera, check its current compatibility with the exact Pixel and app, then connect it using the method the phone presents in the Camera Picker.

Do not assume that a GoPro model will provide every feature of the Pixel camera. Resolution, stabilization, field of view, power behavior, audio routing, and latency are not specified in Google’s Connected Cameras documentation.

Switch camera angles while streaming

Once an external camera has been added, the workflow is deliberately simple:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Start or prepare the live video, recording, or post in a supported app.
  2. Open the app’s Camera Picker.
  3. Choose the Pixel, the external Pixel, the GoPro, or the USB camera shown in the list.
  4. Wait for the countdown to end and confirm that the preview has changed.
  5. Repeat the process whenever you need another angle.
  6. Select My Pixel when you want to return to the phone’s own camera.

Only one external camera can be connected through Connected Cameras at a time. You can switch between the phone and that one external source, but Google does not describe selecting two external cameras together.

Plan the audio before going live

Changing the video source also changes the audio source to the camera currently in use. A move from the Pixel to a USB camera, GoPro, or second Pixel can therefore change the microphone heard by viewers. Google specifically cautions that Bluetooth audio may reduce streaming quality. For a planned production, check the audio indicator and make a short private test in the same app before broadcasting publicly.

Which apps support the feature?

App Connected Cameras availability What to expect
Facebook Listed by Google Use the app’s Camera Picker after enabling Connected Cameras.
YouTube Listed by Google Use the picker to select the Pixel or one supported external camera.
Instagram Listed by Google Camera selection depends on the app surface and the camera sources exposed by the Pixel.
Snapchat Listed by Google Use the picker when it appears in the supported camera workflow.
TikTok Listed by Google Use the picker to change the active source.

Google’s list is the authoritative boundary in the available documentation. The feature should not be assumed to work in every video-call, livestream, camera, or social app simply because that app can use the Pixel’s built-in camera.

What “multi-camera” does not mean on a Pixel

Several Google features sound similar but solve different problems. Choosing the wrong one is a common reason a setup fails.

Workflow Purpose Main limit
Connected Cameras Switches between the Pixel and one external camera inside the listed social apps. Requires a supported Pixel, camera type, and app; only one external camera at a time.
Pixel webcam mode Sends the Pixel’s camera over a data-capable USB cable to another device that accepts UVC webcams. The receiving device needs UVC support. Pixel devices do not accept UVC cameras as webcam inputs in this mode.
Meet Dual Camera Shows the front and rear cameras in the same Google Meet call. Available only on Pixel 9 Pro Fold and requires an up-to-date Meet or Gmail app.
Meet mobile camera reversal Flips the active camera during a regular Meet meeting to show the room or surroundings. The mobile documentation describes reversing the phone camera, not selecting an external camera. It also says video resolution cannot be adjusted in the Meet mobile app.
Meet hardware camera switching Uses a touchscreen controller to switch among connected USB cameras or specified Huddly cameras in a Meet room. This is a room-system capability, not a Pixel-phone workflow.
Screen sharing Shares an app or the full Pixel screen in a conference or on an external display. It shares screen content, not another camera feed.

When Pixel webcam mode is the right choice

Use webcam mode when the Pixel is the camera you want to send out to a laptop, tablet, or other receiving device. Connect the Pixel with a data-capable USB cable and select the phone as a webcam on the receiving device if that device supports UVC input.

This direction is the reverse of Connected Cameras. Connected Cameras brings an external camera into a supported app running on the Pixel. Webcam mode exports the Pixel camera to another device. Google explicitly says Pixel devices do not support UVC cameras as webcam inputs through webcam mode, so plugging a USB webcam into a Pixel will not turn that mode into a general-purpose camera-input system.

When Meet Dual Camera or camera reversal is better

Pixel 9 Pro Fold Dual Camera

If your goal is to show the front and rear cameras of one phone at the same time in a Meet call, Google’s separate Dual Camera feature is the relevant option. It is limited to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and requires an up-to-date Meet or Gmail app. It is not the same as adding a second phone or USB camera through Connected Cameras.

Regular Meet mobile reversal

For a normal Meet meeting, the mobile app can reverse the active camera so you can show yourself or the surroundings. That documentation does not describe external-camera selection, so it should not be planned as a Pixel-to-Pixel or USB-camera workflow.

Use screen sharing when you need to show the phone, not another lens

If the real requirement is to demonstrate an app, display a dashboard, or show what is on the Pixel, screen sharing may be more appropriate than adding a camera. Google documents Cast and screen projection, and Pixel 8 and later can connect to an external display with a DisplayPort- or HDMI-to-USB-C cable. In a video-conference app such as Meet, you can share a single app or the full screen.

  • 【Press Down Firmly Every 30 Minutes】Use your palm or fingers to press the phone down firmly and check it's secure before letting go. Apply even pressure for a few seconds to allow the suction cup to adhere properly. To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.

Screen sharing transmits the Pixel’s screen content. It does not create an alternate camera angle and does not turn a second phone into a camera source.

Troubleshoot a missing camera or failed switch

The Camera Picker does not appear

  • Confirm that Use Connected Cameras is enabled at Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → Connected Cameras.
  • Confirm that the app is Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok.
  • Check the Pixel model against Google’s compatibility groups.
  • Update the app and restart it after enabling the setting.

A second Pixel is not listed

  • Check that both phones use the same Google Account.
  • Enable cross-device services on both phones.
  • Make sure the receiving phone is a model for which Google lists another Pixel as an external camera.
  • Reopen Add Pixel and accept the permission prompt on the second device.

A USB camera is not recognized

  • Verify the exact camera model’s UVC specification.
  • Replace a charge-only cable with a data-capable cable.
  • Reconnect the camera, then grant the USB camera permission when prompted.
  • Test without an unpowered hub or adapter if the camera repeatedly disconnects.
  • Try the camera in the supported app after reconnecting; recognition by another Android app does not establish Connected Cameras compatibility.

The view changes but the sound is wrong

Connected Cameras uses the audio source associated with the active camera. Check which camera is selected and whether Bluetooth audio is involved; Google warns that Bluetooth audio can reduce streaming quality.

You expected two external views at once

That is outside the documented Connected Cameras behavior. The supported workflow selects one external camera at a time. Use the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s Meet Dual Camera only for its specific front-and-rear Meet use case, or use a separate production system designed to combine multiple feeds.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical setup checklist

  • Identify the exact Pixel model and determine whether another Pixel is permitted.
  • Confirm the app is one of Google’s five listed supported apps.
  • For USB, verify UVC support for the exact camera.
  • Sign connected Pixels into the same Google Account.
  • Enable cross-device services when using another Pixel.
  • Turn on Use Connected Cameras before opening the app.
  • Grant camera, USB, and device permissions when prompted.
  • Test the Camera Picker, countdown, framing, and audio before a public stream.
  • Remember that selecting an external camera changes the active audio source as well.
  • Plan for one external camera, not a simultaneous multi-feed layout.

Choosing the right workflow

Choose Connected Cameras if you need to switch angles inside Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok and your Pixel and camera meet Google’s compatibility rules. Choose Pixel webcam mode if the Pixel itself must appear as a webcam on another UVC-capable device. Choose Meet Dual Camera only when you have a Pixel 9 Pro Fold and need its front and rear cameras in Meet. Choose screen sharing when the audience needs to see the Pixel’s display rather than a second lens.

The decisive limitation is straightforward: Connected Cameras is a supported-app camera switcher with one external camera, not a general multi-camera mixer. Model, camera protocol, account, permission, and app support all have to line up before the picker can offer the source you want.
