Do not assume a separate Makita battery adapter is safe with a Mellif tool. Some Mellif tools are listed as compatible with Makita 18V batteries, which may mean they accept a battery directly—not that Mellif approves a separate adapter. Check the exact tool, battery and adapter instructions before connecting them. The available manufacturer information does not establish a safe adapter for an unspecified pairing.
First check whether your Mellif tool accepts a Makita battery directly
Mellif’s tool collection lists some products as compatible with Makita 18V batteries. That is a model-specific compatibility claim, not blanket approval for every Mellif tool, Makita battery or adapter. Find the exact tool model and check its product listing and manual for the battery types it supports.

Mellif’s FAQ says its green batteries are for tools compatible with Makita batteries and that battery colors are not interchangeable. Color alone therefore cannot confirm compatibility; rely on the exact model’s stated requirements.

Use the battery only in the configuration Mellif specifies. If the tool is designed to accept the Makita battery directly, do not add an adapter unless the instructions for that exact model explicitly require one.

If the tool listing does not specify Makita compatibility
Do not infer support from a shared voltage label, a seller’s general claim, a close physical fit or another user’s experience. Check the tool and battery manuals or ask the manufacturers about the exact models.
Why a separate adapter needs explicit approval
Makita Power Tools (HK) Limited’s safety statement, dated January 2, 2026, says genuine Makita lithium-ion batteries are designed for Makita cordless tools and corresponding chargers, and warns against using them with non-approved tools, adapters, modified devices or equipment. Its statement is from a Hong Kong subsidiary; the English version says the Chinese original controls if the two differ. Read the Makita Hong Kong statement before considering a cross-brand adapter.

An adapter that appears to fit does not establish that the battery’s protection features, tool behavior or charging requirements remain appropriate. The reviewed manufacturer information does not approve a particular separate Makita-to-Mellif adapter. Without approval for the exact models, there is no supported basis here to recommend using one.

Check the exact configuration before connecting anything
- Identify the models. Record the Mellif tool model, Makita battery model and adapter model. A general “Makita compatible” listing does not cover every combination.
- Read the tool and battery instructions. Confirm the tool manufacturer explicitly lists the battery or adapter configuration. Makita’s ADP10 manual says to read the instructions and caution markings for the adapter, battery, charger and product using the battery. It applies to Makita’s ADP10; it is not approval for an unknown adapter.
- Look for manufacturer support for the adapter. Do not treat a snug fit, matching voltage label, seller claim or online anecdote as manufacturer approval. If the manuals do not address the proposed combination, contact the relevant manufacturer with all three model numbers.
- Keep charging separate unless compatibility is explicit. Do not charge one brand’s battery using another brand’s charger unless the exact manufacturer instructions say that pairing is compatible.
Keep Mellif batteries and chargers in their specified pairing
Mellif says its batteries must be charged with the matching Mellif charger. Its listed 18V replacement battery charger cannot charge original Makita batteries. A battery fitting a tool does not prove that it can be charged by that tool brand’s charger, or by a charger intended for another battery.

Know what Makita says about non-genuine batteries in Makita tools
Makita U.S.A. advises using only genuine Makita batteries and chargers in Makita tools. It warns that non-genuine or altered batteries may defeat electronic communication, void warranty and UL/CSA approval, and create fire or injury risks. Those statements concern use in Makita tools and should not be stretched into a finding about every Mellif configuration. Stop if anything is damaged or behaves abnormally
- Do not connect a battery, tool or adapter with damaged contacts or other visible damage.
- Stop using the setup if it behaves abnormally; do not modify the battery, tool or adapter to make them work together.
- Consult the model-specific manual or the manufacturer’s service channel. Makita U.S.A. directs users with battery-performance questions to a factory or authorized service center.
