Pair them from Windows 11’s Settings > Bluetooth & devices menu (or the Bluetooth quick-settings device list), then select each accessory. Basic typing and pointer movement normally work, but Apple-specific key behavior, media controls and multitouch gestures are not guaranteed. A laptop without working Bluetooth needs a USB Bluetooth adapter.
What you need before pairing
Prepare the Windows laptop and accessories before opening the pairing dialog. The exact process varies between generations of Apple wireless keyboards and trackpads, so do not assume that every model enters pairing mode in the same way.

- A Windows laptop with functioning Bluetooth hardware and a working Bluetooth driver.
- An Apple wireless keyboard, Magic Trackpad or both, switched on and charged or fitted with usable batteries.
- The accessories close to the laptop while pairing.
- Windows 11 is preferable for current settings and support. Microsoft’s touch-gesture documentation records that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; check your device’s applicable servicing options if it still runs Windows 10.
If Bluetooth is absent from Windows, the laptop may not include a Bluetooth radio or its driver may be missing. Microsoft says a USB Bluetooth adapter can add Bluetooth capability. Buy or use one only when the laptop lacks working Bluetooth; it is unnecessary if the built-in radio already works.
Pair a Mac keyboard or trackpad in Windows 11
1. Turn on Bluetooth
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Turn the Bluetooth switch on.
- If the Bluetooth control is missing, check Device Manager and the laptop maker’s driver package. A missing setting commonly indicates absent hardware or an uninstalled adapter driver.
2. Put the Apple accessory into discoverable mode
Switch on the keyboard or trackpad and follow the instructions for that model to make it discoverable. Current Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad models use Bluetooth when turned on and paired, but Apple’s setup material describes Mac pairing rather than Windows pairing. Older wireless models can be affected by low battery charge or by remaining connected to another computer, so disconnect the accessory from its previous host when necessary.
#1 Best Overall
- Magic Trackpad is wireless and rechargeable, and it includes the full range of Multi-Touch gestures and Force Touch technology.
- Sensors underneath the trackpad surface detect subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply, bringing more functionality to your fingertips and enabling a deeper connection to your content.
- It features a large edge-to-edge glass surface area, making scrolling and swiping through your favourite content more productive and comfortable than ever.
- Magic Trackpad pairs automatically with your Mac, so you can get to work straightaway.
- The rechargeable battery will power it for about a month or more between charges.
3. Add the device
- In Settings > Bluetooth & devices, select Add device > Bluetooth.
- Alternatively, open the Bluetooth quick setting on the Windows taskbar and open its device list.
- Choose the Apple keyboard or trackpad when it appears.
- Follow any on-screen pairing prompt. A keyboard may display a code that you must type on that keyboard and confirm with Enter.
After pairing, Windows normally reconnects the device whenever it is switched on, nearby and Bluetooth is enabled. Repeat the process separately for a keyboard and a trackpad.
4. Test the connection
Open a text editor and type several characters, including the number row and modifier keys. Move the pointer, click, scroll and open a context menu on the trackpad. Testing immediately shows whether you have a Bluetooth problem or merely a missing key or gesture mapping.
If the accessory does not appear
Work through these checks in order instead of repeatedly opening the Add device dialog.
- Confirm discoverability: switch the accessory off and on, then use its model-specific pairing procedure again.
- Move it closer: keep the device beside the laptop during discovery and testing.
- Check power: recharge it or replace batteries. A device with enough power to light up may still fail to advertise reliably.
- Disconnect another host: turn off Bluetooth on the Mac, tablet or other computer that last used the accessory.
- Toggle Bluetooth: turn Bluetooth off and on in Windows, then retry.
- Remove and re-add: open Settings > Bluetooth & devices, select the accessory’s menu, choose Remove device, restart Bluetooth and pair again.
- Check discovery settings: Microsoft notes that discovery settings can affect whether a Bluetooth device appears.
- Use a USB adapter if needed: if the laptop has no usable Bluetooth radio, install the adapter’s current Windows driver and repeat the Windows pairing steps.
What works after pairing
Keyboard basics
Windows should accept ordinary text input, navigation keys and common shortcuts as Bluetooth keyboard input. The printed legends and modifier conventions are Mac-oriented, however. A key that is obvious on a Windows keyboard may have a different label or position on an Apple keyboard, and the behavior of function-row and media keys can vary by model and driver.
Plan for three levels of support:
- Standard input: letters, numbers, punctuation and many navigation keys generally work without additional software.
- Modifier differences: Windows and macOS use different shortcut conventions and labels. You may need to adapt to the physical legends or remap modifiers.
- Special functions: brightness, volume, playback, keyboard illumination and other media functions can vary by keyboard generation. A Bluetooth connection alone does not guarantee them.
Test the exact shortcuts and media controls you use for work before relying on the keyboard. Do not assume that a key’s Mac symbol describes its Windows function.
Trackpad basics
Pointer movement and clicking are the first things to test. Windows documents these touchpad gestures generally:

- Tap to select.
- Two-finger scrolling.
- Pinch to zoom.
- Two-finger tap or a press in the lower-right area for additional commands or a right-click.
- Three- and four-finger swipes for window management, desktop switching and virtual-desktop actions.
Microsoft explicitly cautions that some gestures work only with Precision Touchpads. That documentation does not guarantee that every external Apple Magic Trackpad generation exposes every gesture through Windows’ built-in driver. You may get pointer movement and clicking while losing scrolling, pinch, right-click or multi-finger actions.

First try a two-finger tap. If that is not recognized, try pressing the lower-right area of the trackpad, which is a Windows-documented right-click method. Open a context menu in File Explorer or on the desktop to verify the result.
If neither method works, the Bluetooth link is not necessarily faulty. The connected trackpad may not be presenting the Windows driver with the gesture capabilities required for those actions. Test a physical mouse or keyboard context-menu key to confirm that Windows itself can open context menus, then investigate model-specific driver support.
Built-in Windows support versus optional drivers
Start with Windows’ own Bluetooth and input drivers. They avoid extra background software and establish whether the hardware works at all. Install a third-party utility only when a specific missing function matters to you.
What optional software may add
Magic Utilities, an independent Windows software vendor, advertises support for Apple input devices on Windows 10 and Windows 11, including Bluetooth or USB operation, modifier-key mapping, media and volume keys, and additional standard-key functions. These are vendor claims, not guarantees from Apple or Microsoft. Compatibility can depend on the exact accessory generation, Windows version and system architecture.
Before installing any utility, verify:
- That your exact keyboard or trackpad model is listed.
- That your Windows edition and architecture are supported.
- Whether the software replaces or supplements the standard Windows driver.
- Current pricing, licence terms and update activity.
- How to disable or uninstall it if Bluetooth pairing or sleep/wake behavior changes.
Do not install a utility merely because one media key or gesture is unfamiliar. Identify the missing function first, then decide whether its benefit justifies another driver or background service.

Third-party Windows laptop versus Windows on an Intel Mac
These are different setups and should not be confused.
| Host computer | Pairing path | Driver and feature scope | What the Apple guidance covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows laptop made by a third-party PC manufacturer | Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device > Bluetooth | Depends on the laptop’s Bluetooth adapter, Windows drivers and the accessory generation; basic input may work while special keys or gestures do not | Use Windows Bluetooth settings and the laptop maker’s drivers |
| Intel-based Mac running Windows through Boot Camp | Apple’s Boot Camp and Windows setup path for that Mac | Boot Camp drivers and the Mac’s hardware integration can provide behavior that is not available on a third-party PC | Apple’s Boot Camp material, including its Bluetooth and trackpad directions, applies to Windows on an Intel-based Mac |
Apple’s Boot Camp page says a Bluetooth wireless device should first be paired with the Mac in macOS before using it with Windows under Boot Camp. It also documents right-click through a trackpad in that environment. Those instructions do not describe how to pair an Apple accessory with a separate Windows laptop. On a third-party PC, follow Windows’ Bluetooth procedure and use that computer’s hardware drivers.
Choosing the right troubleshooting path
The keyboard pairs but does not type
- Remove the device in Windows and pair it again.
- Confirm that another computer is not capturing the keyboard’s Bluetooth connection.
- Test in a plain text editor to exclude an application-specific shortcut problem.
- Check battery state and the laptop’s Bluetooth driver.
The keyboard types but a key or media control is wrong
- Record the exact key or function that fails; ordinary typing and media controls are separate compatibility questions.
- Check the keyboard generation and Windows version before installing software.
- Consider modifier mapping or media-key support from a reputable third-party utility only after reviewing its model coverage and uninstall process.
The trackpad moves the pointer but gestures fail
- Test one-finger clicking and scrolling separately from multi-finger gestures.
- Check Windows touchpad settings for available gesture controls.
- Remember that Microsoft’s gesture list is general Windows guidance and that some gestures require a Precision Touchpad.
- Look for model-specific Windows driver support; do not infer full gesture support from successful Bluetooth pairing.
The device repeatedly disconnects
- Recharge or replace batteries.
- Keep the accessory close to the laptop and away from competing Bluetooth hosts.
- Update the laptop’s Bluetooth driver from its manufacturer.
- Remove the pairing and add the device again.
- If the laptop’s built-in radio is unreliable, test a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter.
Practical expectations by accessory
Apple keyboard
It is a reasonable choice when you mainly need compact wireless typing and are comfortable adapting to Mac-labelled modifiers. Expect to spend time testing shortcut and function-row behavior. Full media and modifier support may require model-specific Windows software.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Apple Magic Trackpad
It can provide wireless pointer input, but it is the less predictable part of this setup because Windows gesture support depends on both the accessory and its driver path. Treat basic movement and clicking as the baseline; verify scrolling, right-click, pinch and three- or four-finger gestures on your particular laptop.
Both together
Pair each accessory independently and test them separately. If the keyboard works but the trackpad does not, or vice versa, troubleshoot the failing device rather than assuming the laptop’s entire Bluetooth system is broken.
How to evaluate the setup before buying anything
Start by identifying the host computer and the exact accessory generation. A third-party Windows laptop uses Microsoft’s Bluetooth stack and the laptop maker’s drivers; an Intel-based Mac running Windows through Boot Camp follows a different Apple-supported path. Do not buy software or an adapter until you know which situation you have.

- Redesigned and rechargeable, Magic Trackpad 2 includes a built-in battery and brings Force Touch to the desktop for the first time.
- Four force sensors underneath the trackpad surface allow you to click anywhere, and detect subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply, bringing increased functionality to your fingertips and enabling a deeper connection to your content.
- Magic Trackpad 2 also features an edge-to-edge glass surface area that is nearly 30 per cent larger than the previous trackpad. This design, along with a lower profile, makes scrolling and swiping through your favorite content more productive and comfortable than ever.
- Magic Trackpad 2 pairs automatically with your Mac, so you can get to work right away.
- If you need only typing: an Apple keyboard is most likely to meet expectations with built-in Windows support.
- If you need media keys or Mac-style modifiers: test your common shortcuts first and compare the model-specific support of any optional utility.
- If you need precise gestures: treat the Magic Trackpad as a compatibility trial. Windows’ general gesture list is not a promise that an external Apple device will expose every gesture.
- If Bluetooth is missing: a USB Bluetooth adapter is the enabling purchase. It is not an upgrade required for a laptop that already has a stable Bluetooth radio.
There is no single universal software price or feature list for every model. Check the current licence, pricing, supported Windows architecture and update history of a utility at the time you install it. Keep a wired keyboard or mouse available while changing drivers.

Windows settings worth checking after pairing
Once the device is connected, open Windows’ Bluetooth and touchpad settings and note which controls are actually available. Gesture customization may be shown for standard Windows touchpads, but an external Magic Trackpad may expose fewer options. Record the gestures that work instead of assuming the settings page represents the full capability of the Apple hardware.
For the keyboard, test the modifier combinations used by your applications, the entire function row, volume and playback controls, and any brightness or illumination keys. For the trackpad, test a tap, a physical click, two-finger scrolling, a two-finger tap, lower-right pressing, pinch-to-zoom and three- or four-finger swipes. This checklist separates a working Bluetooth link from incomplete feature mapping.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Windows 10 consideration
Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Bluetooth pairing may still be available on a particular installation, but readers should check their device’s applicable servicing and upgrade options rather than treating Windows 10 as the current baseline. Optional driver vendors may list Windows 10 support, yet that is a vendor statement and should be checked against the exact release and architecture.
Before you depend on the setup
- Pair each device successfully after a restart.
- Test typing, modifier keys and the function row you actually use.
- Test pointer movement, clicking, scrolling and right-click.
- Check whether sleep and wake reconnect both devices.
- Keep a wired keyboard or mouse available while changing drivers or removing pairings.
- Document the exact accessory model and Windows version before seeking third-party support.
The reliable part of this setup is the Bluetooth connection itself. Feature completeness—especially Mac-specific keyboard functions and Magic Trackpad gestures—must be verified on the exact Windows laptop, accessory generation and driver combination you plan to use.

Will an Apple Magic Trackpad work with Windows 11?
It can pair as a Bluetooth pointing device, so movement and clicking may work. Scrolling, right-click, pinch and multi-finger gestures depend on the trackpad generation and Windows driver support; successful pairing does not guarantee all gestures.
How do I right-click on a Magic Trackpad in Windows?
Try a two-finger tap first. If that fails, press the lower-right area of the trackpad, then test in File Explorer or on the desktop. If neither works, investigate model-specific driver support.
Can I use the keyboard and trackpad at the same time?
Yes. Pair each accessory separately through Windows Bluetooth settings, then test each one independently. If only one fails, troubleshoot that device rather than the entire Bluetooth system.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo I need Boot Camp to use Apple accessories with a Windows laptop?
No. Boot Camp instructions apply to Windows running on an Intel-based Mac. A Windows laptop made by another manufacturer should use Windows Bluetooth settings and that laptop’s drivers.
Why does my Apple keyboard type but not control volume or media?
Ordinary typing and special media functions are separate compatibility issues. Function-row behavior varies by model and driver. Check the exact model and Windows version, then consider a reputable optional utility only if the missing controls matter.
Why does my Magic Trackpad move the pointer but not scroll?
Windows may be receiving basic pointer input without receiving the gesture capabilities needed for scrolling. Check Windows touchpad settings, confirm the model, and look for compatible model-specific Windows support.
Should I buy a USB Bluetooth adapter?
Only if the laptop lacks working Bluetooth or its built-in radio cannot be made reliable. Microsoft identifies a USB adapter as a way to add Bluetooth; it is unnecessary when the laptop’s existing Bluetooth works.
The Bottom Line
Pair the Apple keyboard or Magic Trackpad through Windows Bluetooth settings, not Boot Camp, when using a third-party Windows laptop. Expect basic input first; verify every shortcut and gesture you need, and add a USB adapter or third-party utility only when a specific hardware or feature gap justifies it.
