Open Arsenal > Mods (or the mod screen on an item’s Upgrade page), select a rankable mod, choose Fusion or Upgrade, pick Legendary Core as the fusion material, and confirm. The core is consumed and the selected mod reaches maximum rank without the usual Endo and Credit payment. Button labels can differ slightly between platforms or after a later interface update.
What a Legendary Core does
A Legendary Core is a one-use fusion item. Applying it to an eligible mod immediately sets that mod to its maximum rank. The transaction replaces the ordinary Endo-and-Credit requirement, so you do not pay those two resources for that upgrade. The core itself is the cost and disappears when the transaction is confirmed.

That makes the item an upgrade shortcut rather than a permanent account-wide bonus. It does not increase a weapon’s base statistics, add capacity to your Arsenal, or create a duplicate mod. It finishes one selected mod, and the finished mod behaves like any other max-rank copy in your collection.

Digital Extremes’ Silver Grove documentation describes Endo as “the raw resource that powers the process of Upgrading Mods” and explains that fusion raises mods through whole ranks. A Legendary Core bypasses that normal resource bill for one mod.

Before you start: check the mod and the item
Use the core only after confirming that the target is a mod you can rank. The option is intended for a mod with upgrade ranks; a cosmetic item, an already-maxed mod, or another non-rankable inventory entry will not provide a useful fusion target.
- Confirm the item name. Make sure your inventory contains a Legendary Core, not an Ancient Core or another fusion material.
- Confirm the target. Select the actual mod you want to rank, not a search result, duplicate listing, or an item that is already at its maximum rank.
- Think about permanence. A core is most valuable on a mod you expect to use across many builds, not a short-term leveling target.
- Check the final screen. The preview should show maximum rank and the Legendary Core replacing the normal Endo and Credit requirement before you accept.
You do not need to farm or spend Endo first. The purpose of the core is to substitute for that upgrade cost. You should still inspect the confirmation screen because the exact interface wording can change with platform or later UI revisions.
Step-by-step: apply a Legendary Core
- Enter the Arsenal. From the main game interface, open Arsenal.
- Open Mods. Choose Mods from the Arsenal menu. You can also reach the same mod-management screen from an equipped item’s Upgrade page.
- Select the mod. Open the mod you want to improve. Verify its current rank and identify the maximum-rank result shown by the interface.
- Choose Fusion or Upgrade. Select the control used to rank the mod. The label may appear as Fusion or Upgrade, depending on the screen and platform.
- Choose the fusion material. In the material choices, select Legendary Core. Do not select an Ancient Core by mistake.
- Read the preview. Confirm that the destination mod will be set to maximum rank and that the normal Endo and Credit requirement has been replaced by the core.
- Confirm the transaction. Accept the prompt only when the mod, material, and resulting rank are correct. The Legendary Core is consumed immediately and the mod remains at maximum rank.
If you leave the screen before confirming, the core should not be spent. Once you accept the transaction, treat it as a completed one-use upgrade rather than a reversible selection.

Which mod should receive your core?
There is no developer rule that identifies one universally correct target. The best choice depends on how expensive the mod is to rank and how often you will reuse it. A practical approach is to reserve the core for a high-cost mod that will stay in many of your builds.
Strong candidates
- Primed mods: These are commonly kept as long-term build staples, and their full upgrade path can represent a substantial Endo and Credit commitment.
- Galvanized mods: If a Galvanized mod is part of your regular weapon setups, finishing it instantly can remove a major investment from your progression plan.
- Archon mods: A frequently used Archon mod can be a sensible target when you would otherwise spend a large amount of Endo and Credits to reach its ceiling.
- Another expensive, reusable mod: The same logic applies to any similarly costly mod you expect to equip repeatedly across Warframes, weapons, companions, or other builds.
These are recommendations based on value, not restrictions imposed by Digital Extremes. The core does not know whether a mod is “important”; it simply completes the selected rankable mod.
Targets that usually waste the shortcut
- Cheap standard mods: If ordinary Endo and Credits can finish the mod comfortably, using a scarce core gives you little practical advantage.
- Temporary leveling choices: Do not spend the core on a mod you are testing and may remove from your builds.
- Duplicate copies: If another copy is already maxed or nearly maxed, the core may be better saved for a more expensive upgrade.
- A mod you rarely equip: A maximum rank has less value when the mod sits unused in your collection.
Saving the item is also a legitimate choice. You can hold it until a future build makes the value obvious; there is no requirement to use it as soon as you obtain it.
A decision framework: use the core or keep it for trade?
Before opening the confirmation prompt, score the target against five questions. The more “yes” answers you have, the stronger the case for using the core immediately.

- Is the target expensive to rank? Compare the Endo and Credit burden with what you can reasonably earn or already have available.
- Will you reuse it? A mod that appears in many loadouts returns value every time you equip it.
- Is the mod difficult to replace? A rare or hard-to-obtain mod can justify completing the copy you own, although rarity alone does not make a poor build choice good.
- Do you need the power now? Immediate access to the maximum rank may matter if it completes a build you are actively using.
- Would another player’s trade offer help more? If the core has greater value to you as a trade asset than as an upgrade, keep it unspent and use the supported Trade interface.
| Consideration | Favors using the core | Favors saving or trading it |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate build power | You need the max-rank mod for an active loadout | No current build depends on it |
| Endo and Credit savings | The normal rank-up bill is a major burden | The mod is inexpensive to finish normally |
| Target rarity | You have a valuable copy that you will keep | You are unsure whether the mod belongs in your long-term builds |
| Reuse frequency | It will appear in many loadouts | You expect to equip it rarely |
| Personal priority | Progress and a finished build matter most | You prefer preserving an exchangeable item |
Do not treat a hypothetical market value as an established number. No stable current market-price or drop-rate figure is established here, so make the decision from your own build needs and the terms shown in the in-game Trade interface.
Legendary Core versus Ancient Core
The names are similar, but the items do different jobs. Digital Extremes forum staff member [DE]Drew stated in 2016: “Unlike Legendary Cores, Ancient Cores do NOT have the ability to maximize the rank of a mod.” That distinction is the key test when you are choosing a fusion material.
| Feature | Legendary Core | Ancient Core |
|---|---|---|
| Can maximize a mod’s rank | Yes | No |
| Purpose in the fusion decision described here | Instantly sets the selected mod to maximum rank | Does not provide that maximum-rank function |
| Safe assumption when the names look similar | Check the item description before confirming | Do not substitute it for a Legendary Core |
If the Legendary Core option is missing, inspect the item description in your inventory or trade view. The name and description should identify which core you actually own.
Can you trade a Legendary Core?
Yes. Digital Extremes’ official trading guidance says that all mods in your inventory—including Warframe, weapon, companion, and augment mods—are eligible for trade, and explicitly includes Legendary Cores. The supported method is the game’s own Trade interface.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Trading changes the decision from “Which mod should I finish?” to “Is another player’s accepted trade more useful to me than one instant maximum-rank upgrade?” Keep the core unspent while you evaluate that choice; once fused, it is no longer available as a trade item.
Use only the in-game Trade interface
Digital Extremes warns that trades involving cash or services outside the Trade UI are unsupported and can lead to account penalties. Do not exchange account access, real-world money, or promised services for a core. Use the normal in-game trade flow, review the item description on both sides, and accept only after every item is correct.
Trade-safety checklist
- Verify that the offered item is labeled Legendary Core, not Ancient Core.
- Check the complete trade window immediately before accepting; do not rely on an earlier chat agreement.
- Keep all negotiations and the final exchange inside Warframe’s supported Trade interface.
- Do not treat an outside-cash or service arrangement as an officially supported transaction.
Troubleshooting: the Legendary Core option is missing
The target is not rankable
Return to the mod list and select a mod with upgrade ranks. A non-rankable entry cannot receive the maximum-rank fusion action.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe mod is already at maximum rank
An already-maxed mod has nothing for the core to complete. Select a different copy only if you actually need to rank that copy and it is not already finished.

You selected the wrong material
Open the material description and check the exact name. Ancient Cores and other fusion items do not provide the Legendary Core’s maximum-rank function.
You are on a different upgrade screen
Use Arsenal > Mods, or open the mod screen from the item’s Upgrade page. The option may not appear while you are viewing a different inventory or equipment panel.
The labels differ from this guide
Look for the control that performs mod fusion or upgrading. Platform-specific wording and later interface updates can change whether the button says Fusion, Upgrade, or another equivalent label. The confirmation preview—not the button’s exact wording—is the authoritative check that the mod will reach maximum rank and the core will be consumed.
Final confirmation checklist
Use this short check immediately before accepting:
- The destination is the intended rankable mod.
- The material is explicitly identified as a Legendary Core.
- The preview shows maximum rank.
- The normal Endo and Credit requirement has been replaced by the core.
- You understand that one core will be consumed.
- You are not preserving the item for a trade you would value more.
Once those points are correct, confirm the fusion. You will have one max-rank mod, no Endo or Credits charged for that upgrade, and one fewer Legendary Core in your inventory.
