If your paired Galaxy phone is nearby, use the Galaxy Watch: open the Apps tray, tap Find, choose Devices, select the phone, and tap Ring. Samsung says the phone rings at its loudest volume. When you locate it, swipe the X button on the watch to stop the alert. This works over Bluetooth when the devices are within range; finding the phone remotely requires a usable internet connection on both devices.
Ring a nearby Galaxy phone from your watch
Samsung describes the watch feature as a way to find a paired Galaxy smartphone using the pre-installed Find application. Perform these steps on the watch:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Wake the Galaxy Watch and open the Apps tray.
- Tap Find. On some software versions, the app may be labelled or presented as the phone-finding function within Find.
- Tap Devices.
- Select the paired Galaxy phone from the list.
- Tap Ring.
- Follow the sound to the phone. Samsung says the phone rings at its loudest volume, which is useful if it was left under clothing, in luggage, or in a hotel room.
- After you recover the phone, swipe on the X button shown on the watch to stop the ringing.
The procedure assumes the watch and phone were paired before the phone went missing. It is a recovery shortcut for a phone you are allowed to locate, not a substitute for securing a stolen device.
Prepare the watch before leaving home
Set up the connection while both devices are in your possession. Doing so avoids discovering at an airport, station, or hotel that the watch was never paired or that device-finding controls were disabled.

Pair the watch and phone
Complete the normal Galaxy Watch pairing process before your trip and confirm that the phone appears in the watch’s Find app under Devices. The watch-side instructions are written for a paired Galaxy phone; an unpaired phone will not appear as a selectable target. If you use more than one phone or watch, check the device name carefully so you do not test the wrong profile.
Check the Samsung account and finding settings
Remote SmartThings Find features depend on the relevant Samsung account, network access, and device-finding settings. Some finding options must be enabled before a device is lost. Sign in to the same account used by the phone, review the device-finding controls, and verify that the phone is listed before departure. Account access is especially important when the phone and watch are no longer close enough to share Bluetooth.
Test the complete path
With the phone beside you, open Find > Devices on the watch and start a ring, then stop it with the watch’s X control. This confirms that the app can see the correct phone and that you know how to silence the alert. Repeat the test after a major software update or after changing phones, since menus and available features can change with the device and software version.

Check both devices’ connection state
- For a nearby search, make sure Bluetooth is enabled and the watch shows a connection to the phone.
- For remote use, make sure both devices can reach the internet through an appropriate Wi-Fi, mobile-data, or LTE connection.
- Keep the phone powered on. A watch cannot make a powered-off phone ring through this feature.
- Confirm that the watch itself has enough battery for the trip and that the phone is not already in a state that blocks its network connection.
Do not wait until the phone is lost to discover that a required setting was off. Samsung notes that certain finding choices cannot be retroactively enabled after a device disappears.
Nearby Bluetooth versus remote finding
The word “traveling” does not automatically make the watch a remote locator. The watch uses one of two practical connection paths, and each has different limits.
| Connection path | Must the devices be near each other? | What the devices need | When it is useful | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | Yes. Samsung says the watch and phone must be within Bluetooth range. | A working Bluetooth connection between the paired watch and phone. | Finding a phone in a room, vehicle, hotel, airport lounge, or nearby luggage. | Samsung does not provide a reliable distance figure, so do not plan around a specific number of metres. |
| Remote LTE or internet | No physical proximity is required for the remote path. | Both the watch and phone need a strong internet connection. The watch may be using its own LTE or another remote connection rather than the phone’s nearby Bluetooth link. | Trying to locate a phone left elsewhere, provided remote finding was configured in advance. | Weak, missing, or blocked internet access on either device can prevent the request from reaching the phone. |
A watch connected to the phone by Bluetooth is not secretly operating over unlimited distance. If you leave the phone on a train and the watch remains with you, Bluetooth will eventually no longer be the relevant connection; remote finding only has a chance if the required account, device-finding, and internet conditions are already in place.
The two paths should be treated as different troubleshooting cases. Bluetooth is a short-range recovery tool for a phone that is probably in the same immediate environment. Remote finding is a network-dependent request that can work only while the watch and phone can each communicate through the required services. Samsung does not promise a result in every airport, aircraft, hotel, tunnel, or transit situation, so keep expectations tied to the connection you can actually verify.

What to do when Ring does not work
The phone is not listed under Devices
- Confirm that this is the Galaxy Watch paired with the missing phone, not another watch profile.
- Check that the phone was paired before it went missing and that the watch is signed in and configured with the expected Samsung account.
- Review device-finding settings. Samsung notes that some options are unavailable after a loss if they were not enabled beforehand.
- Menus and availability vary by watch model, phone model, software version, and country variant. Consult the support instructions for your local devices if the labels differ.
If the phone was recently replaced, reset, or removed from the account, the old entry may not be the device you expect. Verify the device identity during your pre-trip test rather than assuming that any listed Galaxy phone is the one in your bag.
The watch cannot connect nearby
Bluetooth finding requires the devices to be within Bluetooth range. Move through the last area where the phone could be, keep the watch awake, and retry Find > Devices. Samsung does not state a guaranteed Bluetooth distance, so walls, luggage, and the travel environment should not be treated as predictable range tests. Search methodically: check the seat, charging area, pockets, under furniture, and the last vehicle or room before assuming the phone is far away.
Remote finding fails
Remote use requires strong internet connections on both the watch and phone. Check whether the watch has its own usable LTE or Wi-Fi connection and whether the phone can still reach the internet. A phone left in a place without service, switched off, or disconnected from its account cannot be assumed to respond to a remote ring request. Public Wi-Fi sign-in pages, underground stations, roaming restrictions, and poor cellular coverage can all interrupt the connection without changing anything in the watch’s menu.
The ring is still sounding
Once you have the phone, swipe the X control on the watch to stop the alert. If you dismiss the watch screen before stopping it, reopen the Find control and use the stop action rather than waiting for the alert to end. This is worth practicing at home because a loud alert can be disruptive in a quiet hotel, aircraft cabin, or station.

Samsung’s direct procedure is documented for Australian-variant devices, and Samsung notes that sequences and availability can differ by location, purchase region, model, and software version. A local version may place the same controls in a different menu or expose different Find options. Use the labels shown on your watch and check Samsung’s support guidance for the device’s market. Do not treat a different label as proof that the function is absent; first look for the equivalent phone-finding control in the Apps tray.
Airplane mode and travel connections
There is no universal airplane-mode rule for this action. The result depends on which radios remain enabled and whether a Bluetooth or internet connection survives. If airplane mode disables the watch’s Bluetooth link and no Wi-Fi or LTE connection is available, the watch cannot be expected to ring the phone. If you deliberately re-enable an allowed connection, the feature may follow the requirements for that connection path, but Samsung’s documented steps do not promise a result for every airplane-mode configuration.
For that reason, test the exact travel configuration before departure rather than assuming that airplane mode will either always block or always permit Find. On a flight, follow crew instructions and do not use a ringing phone as a reason to move around the cabin or access a restricted area.

If the phone is on a moving bus or train
A phone left on public transport can move out of Bluetooth range before you return to look for it. If remote finding is configured and the phone remains reachable, Samsung’s guidance says Track location can send updates every 15 minutes. Treat those updates as location information, not as a guarantee that the phone is still at the original stop or that a ring request will succeed.
Use the movement information to provide useful details to the transport operator or authorities. Do not attempt to board a vehicle or confront someone based only on a map update. A location refresh can lag behind the vehicle’s actual position, and the person carrying the phone may not be its owner.
If the phone may have been stolen
Do not go directly to a mapped location to recover a phone you believe was stolen. Samsung advises contacting authorities instead. A map pin can identify an area for a report, but it does not establish who currently possesses the device or make a personal approach safe.
If the phone is merely misplaced, the watch’s loud ring is the fastest option. If theft is plausible, prioritize personal safety and official assistance over repeated attempts to reach the device. Avoid publishing a live location or confronting a suspected holder while traveling in an unfamiliar place.
Examples of the right connection assumption
Phone under a hotel bed
The watch and phone are likely to remain within Bluetooth range. Open Find, select the phone under Devices, tap Ring, and follow the loud alert. If it does not respond immediately, walk around the room and check that the watch still shows its Bluetooth connection before trying the remote path.
Phone left in an airport lounge
If you are still nearby, try the Bluetooth path first. If you have already walked away, the watch can only help remotely if both devices have internet access and the account and finding controls were prepared before the loss. Ask airport staff for help rather than entering restricted areas to search.
Phone left on a departing train
Bluetooth range will not be a dependable assumption once the train moves away. Use remote finding only when its network and advance-setup requirements are met, and use Track location updates as information for a report rather than as an invitation to pursue the train.

Phone buried in luggage
Bluetooth is useful when the bag is in the same room, coach, or vehicle. The phone’s loudest-volume ring can cut through clothing and luggage noise, but do not assume that a sound proves the phone is undamaged or that it is safe to retrieve it from another person’s property.
Device and country differences to expect
The direct Samsung procedure was published for Australian-variant devices and updated August 20, 2026. Samsung also documents broader differences in menus and feature availability between models, software versions, and regions. The names Find, Devices, and Ring are the key labels in the documented path, but their exact placement can vary on your watch.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBefore travel, compare the instructions with the model and country in which your watch and phone were purchased. Do not assume that a control available on one Galaxy Watch generation or regional firmware will appear identically on another. If you cross borders, roaming and local network availability can affect remote use even though the watch’s menu remains unchanged.

Use Find only for devices that belong to you or that you are authorized to locate. Keep your Samsung account credentials private, and do not hand an unlocked watch to a stranger who offers to “help” track the phone. If you need a carrier, hotel, airline, or transit employee to assist, provide the relevant report details without exposing account passwords.
A ring request is not the same as securing personal data. If you conclude that the phone is stolen, follow Samsung’s account and device-security guidance and contact local authorities. The watch feature is best understood as a way to recover a misplaced paired phone, not as a complete theft-response system.
A short pre-trip checklist
- Pair the Galaxy Watch with the Galaxy phone you intend to carry.
- Open Find > Devices and confirm that the phone is listed.
- Test Ring and stop it with the watch’s X control.
- Verify the Samsung account and device-finding settings.
- Confirm that the phone and watch can obtain the network connection required for any remote attempt.
- Check the local model and software instructions if your menus do not match the documented labels.
- Know whether your watch has a usable LTE or Wi-Fi connection when it is away from the phone.
- If the phone disappears, decide first whether it is probably nearby, remotely reachable, or potentially stolen; use the matching response rather than assuming Bluetooth works at any distance.
Frequently asked questions
Can any Galaxy Watch find any phone?
The documented procedure is for a Galaxy Watch paired with a Galaxy smartphone. The phone must appear in the watch’s Find > Devices list. Model, software, and regional differences can affect availability.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How far away can the phone be?
Samsung says Bluetooth use requires the devices to be within Bluetooth range but does not publish a dependable distance for this feature. Do not rely on a fixed number of metres. For a phone farther away, remote use depends on internet access on both devices and prior setup.

Does the phone ring if it is on silent?
Samsung says the phone rings at its loudest volume when you use the watch’s Ring command. The documented procedure does not require you to change the phone’s sound mode first.
Can I use the watch after leaving the phone on a train?
Bluetooth will not remain a dependable connection as the train moves away. Remote finding may help only if the account, device-finding settings, and internet connections were ready in advance. Track location updates may arrive every 15 minutes when the phone remains reachable.
What if I never enabled finding before the loss?
Some finding options may not be available afterward. That is why Samsung recommends checking the account and device-finding controls while both devices are still with you.
Will Find work in airplane mode?
There is no single rule. It depends on whether Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or LTE remains enabled and connected. Test the exact configuration you plan to use and follow airline instructions.
Should I follow a map pin to a stolen phone?
No. Samsung advises contacting authorities rather than going directly to the mapped location of a stolen phone. A map update is useful information for a report, not a safe-recovery instruction.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fastest way to ring a Galaxy phone from a Galaxy Watch?
Open the watch’s Apps tray, tap Find, choose Devices, select the paired Galaxy phone, and tap Ring. Swipe the X control on the watch when you find it.
Does remote finding work without Bluetooth?
It can only be attempted through the remote path when both the watch and phone have a strong internet connection and the required Samsung account and device-finding settings were configured in advance.

Check that the watch is paired with that phone, the expected Samsung account is in use, and finding was enabled before the loss. Menus and availability also vary by model, software, and country.
What should I do if the phone may be stolen?
Do not travel to the mapped location yourself. Samsung advises contacting authorities and treating location updates as information for an official report.
The Bottom Line
For a nearby Galaxy phone, use Find > Devices > Ring on the paired Galaxy Watch; Samsung says the phone rings at maximum volume. Bluetooth requires the watch and phone to remain within range. A remote attempt is different: both devices need strong internet access, and account and finding settings must have been prepared before the loss. Because menus vary by model, software, and region, test the complete path before your trip and put safety first if theft is possible.
