The inverter provides a 120V receptacle and is listed for use with a DEWALT 20V battery.
This is a conditional setup, not a universal adapter. Read the warmer’s voltage, wattage and plug information first, then compare those figures with the DXAEPIP2W manual. The product page’s “225 watts max” headline does not by itself prove that every 225-watt appliance—or any particular warmer—will run continuously.

What must match before you connect anything
The exact warmer model is the deciding factor. “Lunch warmer” can describe a 120V countertop-style heating container, a 12V vehicle-plug unit, or a low-voltage product with a proprietary connector. Those versions do not automatically use the same power source.

Find the rating label on the warmer, its cord, its power brick or its instruction manual. Record all three of these details:

- Input voltage: usually shown as 120V AC, 12V DC, or a voltage range.
- Rated power: shown in watts (W). If only amperes (A) are listed, the manual may also provide the wattage; do not guess when neither is clear.
- Connector or plug: a North American AC plug, a vehicle accessory plug, a barrel connector or another proprietary connection.
If the label is missing, damaged or unreadable, stop there. A battery and inverter should not be selected by appearance or by the warmer’s physical size.
Read the inverter’s battery-mode limit
DEWALT lists the DXAEPIP2W as a 225-watt inverter compatible with a DEWALT 20V battery and equipped with a 120V AC outlet. Its manual separates limits by power-input mode. Use the manual’s battery-mode continuous-output rating for this setup, not simply the 225-watt maximum printed in the product description.
The warmer’s running wattage must be at or below that continuous rating. If the warmer has a stated startup or surge requirement, that requirement also has to be within the inverter’s capability. When no startup figure is provided, treat an uncertain fit as a reason to seek confirmation from the warmer manufacturer rather than assuming the headline wattage is sufficient.

What the required equipment does
DEWALT DXAEPIP2W inverter
The DXAEPIP2W is the documented bridge between a DEWALT 20V battery and an AC appliance. The battery powers the inverter; the inverter presents a 120V AC receptacle for a matching plug. DEWALT’s product information identifies a “225 Watts max” capacity, while the manual provides operating limits that depend on how the inverter is being powered.
That distinction matters because a maximum label is not the same as a continuous rating for every operating mode. Before buying or connecting a warmer, locate the manual’s battery-input table and use the continuous figure for the battery configuration. If the manual gives different limits for vehicle input and battery input, use only the battery figure here.
DEWALT DCA1820 adapter
The DCA1820 is a separate product. DEWALT describes it as an adapter that allows 20V MAX batteries to be used in most 18V DEWALT tools. It is not documented as an appliance power supply or as a lunch-warmer adapter. Its tool-battery function does not create a regulated AC outlet or prove that a warmer can be connected safely.

Why a bare battery connector is not a substitute
A battery shoe, loose wires, improvised terminals or an unverified step-down module can expose contacts, reverse polarity, bypass protection or deliver the wrong voltage and current. The fact that a connector physically fits says nothing about electrical compatibility. Use the purpose-built inverter for an AC warmer, or a supply explicitly rated for the warmer’s DC input.

Step-by-step: powering a 120V AC lunch warmer
- Identify the warmer’s electrical requirements. Write down its input voltage, rated watts and plug type from the label or manual. If it uses a separate power brick, use the brick’s input and output specifications as directed by the warmer manufacturer.
- Find the inverter’s battery-mode continuous rating. Open the DXAEPIP2W manual and check the limit for operation from a DEWALT 20V battery. Do not substitute the product page’s 225-watt maximum for that value.
- Compare the two ratings. The warmer’s rated running wattage must not exceed the applicable continuous output. If the warmer manual specifies a startup surge, include that requirement in the comparison. If either requirement is unknown, do not proceed on a guess.
- Inspect the battery, inverter and cables. Do not use a pack with damaged housing, damaged contacts, signs of leakage or other defects. Check that the inverter’s outlet and the warmer’s plug are clean and undamaged.
- Choose a stable, ventilated location. Place the inverter on a dry, firm surface with the ventilation openings unobstructed. Keep it away from the warmer’s hot surfaces, steam, food, liquid and anything that could cover its vents.
- Install the battery exactly as DEWALT specifies. Seat the 20V battery in the inverter until it is fully engaged. Do not force it, modify the battery interface or connect external wires to the pack.
- Connect only the matching AC plug. With the inverter and warmer controls in their off positions, plug the warmer into the inverter’s 120V outlet. Do not use a chain of adapters to change a plug type or voltage.
- Start the warmer and observe it. Turn on the inverter as directed in its manual, then start the warmer according to the warmer’s instructions. Watch for an overload indication, shutdown, unusual heat, odor, noise or a loose connection.
- Stop immediately if the inverter alarms or shuts down. Turn off the warmer, disconnect it and allow the inverter to cool. Recheck the ratings and ventilation. Repeated overloads should not be reset by cycling the power until the cause is understood.
- Shut down and store the system safely. Turn off the warmer, switch off the inverter, unplug the warmer and remove the battery if the manufacturer’s storage procedure calls for it. Let hot components cool before packing them.
How to place the equipment during lunch
Portable use creates hazards that are easy to overlook. Keep the battery and inverter where they cannot be splashed, crushed or pulled onto the floor. The warmer should sit level, with its own vents and heating surfaces clear. Never balance the inverter on the warmer, place it under a hot container or cover it with clothing, paper or a bag.
DEWALT battery safety instructions warn against submerging a battery pack or allowing liquid to enter it, and recommend storage away from excessive heat and cold. Keep the pack out of direct contact with hot food containers and away from wet vehicle floors, sinks and outdoor puddles. If a spill reaches the battery or inverter, disconnect power only when it is safe to do so and do not reuse a wet component until the manufacturer has cleared it.

If your warmer uses a 12V vehicle plug
A 12V warmer is a different electrical case from a 120V AC warmer. Its vehicle plug is intended for a 12V DC source with the appropriate current capacity. The DXAEPIP2W documentation mentions a 12V vehicle-input option, but that does not establish that a DEWALT 20V battery can be connected directly to a specific 12V warmer through that path.
Do not plug a 12V warmer into the inverter’s 120V outlet with a homemade adapter, and do not connect its plug to battery contacts. A valid solution would require a supply explicitly designed to convert the DEWALT battery output to the warmer’s required 12V DC voltage and current, with the correct connector and protection. The cited product information does not identify a particular direct adapter that is safe or compatible, so a model-specific supply must be verified independently with the warmer and battery manufacturers.

No reliable runtime can be stated from the battery voltage alone. You need at least the battery’s capacity, the warmer’s actual power draw and the inverter’s conversion losses. A warmer that cycles its heating element may draw power differently from one that runs continuously, and cold temperatures, battery age and cutoff behavior also affect operation.

A practical calculation method
- Obtain the battery’s rated capacity in amp-hours (Ah), or its watt-hour (Wh) rating if the manufacturer provides one.
- Obtain the warmer’s operating wattage from its label or manual. Use the actual rating for the heating mode you intend to run.
- If you only have amp-hours, multiply the battery’s stated nominal voltage by its amp-hour capacity to get a theoretical watt-hour figure.
- Account for inverter losses and the fact that the full rated battery capacity is not normally available at the AC outlet.
- Divide the usable watt-hours by the warmer’s watts for a rough estimate, then treat the result as an estimate rather than a guarantee.
For example, the correct inputs are the specific battery’s capacity and the specific warmer’s wattage; replacing either with a generic “20V battery” or “lunch warmer” value would make the result unreliable. If the warmer’s label does not state a stable wattage, measure or obtain that figure from the manufacturer rather than publishing a runtime number.
Common failure modes and what to do

When this setup is the wrong choice
Choose another power plan when any of the following applies:
- The warmer is not clearly identified as a 120V AC appliance and you do not have a manufacturer-approved DC supply.
- Its rated watts or startup requirement exceeds the DXAEPIP2W battery-mode continuous capability.
- You need unattended heating in a confined space, vehicle compartment or area where the inverter cannot stay ventilated and dry.
- The battery, inverter, cord or plug is damaged, wet, excessively hot or showing signs of melting.
- You would need a bare battery shoe, loose wires, an improvised polarity change or an unverified voltage converter.
- You cannot monitor the setup while it is operating or cannot keep the battery away from the warmer’s heat and spills.

- Warmer wattage is known, including any stated startup requirement.
- DXAEPIP2W battery-mode continuous rating has been read in the manual.

- Ventilation openings are clear.

- The system will be monitored while heating.
The bottom line
The documented route is a DEWALT 20V battery fitted to the DXAEPIP2W inverter, with a 120V AC lunch warmer connected to the inverter’s outlet. It works only when the warmer’s voltage, plug and power demand match the inverter’s battery-mode limits. The “225 watts max” product label is a starting specification, not a blanket approval for every warmer. For 12V vehicle-plug models, use only a specifically rated and verified supply; the DCA1820 tool adapter and a homemade battery connection are not lunch-warmer power solutions.
