To loop a public-domain film on YouTube Live without leaving a computer running, upload a copy you are entitled to stream to a cloud encoder, connect that service to your verified YouTube channel, and start a broadcast with looping enabled. The cloud service sends the video continuously; it does not settle whether the film, restoration, or soundtrack is actually clear to show. Check those rights first, then monitor YouTube Studio for stream health and copyright notices.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days, as specified in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- A downloadable film file you have the right to stream, including the particular version and its audio.
- A cloud encoder that accepts your file or playlist and can connect to YouTube by an approved authorization flow or a stream key. Features and availability differ by provider; check its current instructions.
- A plan for monitoring the broadcast and preserving a replay separately if you need one.
A cloud encoder keeps the video feed running without your home computer staying online. It does not guarantee uninterrupted service, copyright clearance, monetization, or a complete YouTube replay.

Confirm that the film and soundtrack are clear to stream
Check the exact copy, not just the title
Public-domain status can depend on the country or region where viewers will see the film and on the exact version you use. YouTube says there is no official universal list of public-domain works and that the uploader is responsible for verifying a work’s status. Its guidance also recognizes that rights can apply to derivative works. See YouTube’s copyright guidance.
Inspect the film’s provenance and credits, and check separately for added material such as a restoration, new score, soundtrack, subtitles, or other edits. Internet Archive warns that uploader-supplied rights metadata is not guaranteed and that restorations or soundtracks can have separate rights issues. Its guidance on older U.S.-produced films is a research lead, not a global legal test or a determination about a specific copy: Internet Archive’s film guide.

Consider where the live content will be available
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the streamer to have the necessary rights for exploitation of the live content on Google services worldwide, including relevant music licensing rights. A conclusion that a film is public domain in one country may not clear it everywhere or resolve rights in its music. Read the YouTube live-stream terms and verify the rights that apply to your intended territories. When the evidence for a particular film or version is uncertain, do not treat a catalog label as permission.
Set up the cloud loop
- Prepare the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s current encoder streaming setup. Select encoder streaming and prepare the destination. Confirm that the channel meets the eligibility requirements before configuring the service.
- Connect the cloud encoder. Use the provider’s current YouTube authorization flow or copy the stream key from YouTube Studio into the provider’s YouTube destination settings. Treat a stream key as a secret: do not publish it, and reset it if it is exposed. Exact labels and steps depend on the service.
- Upload or select the film. Choose the cleared file in the service. For one film, make a one-item playlist if needed; for a program of films, set their order. Enable repeat or loop if the provider offers it. Confirm the selected destination and that the intended playlist is the one queued to play.
- Preview before going live. Check that the picture and sound play correctly, that the video is not unintentionally cropped or silent, and that the destination is the correct YouTube channel. Start the broadcast using the provider’s current controls.
- Monitor YouTube Studio. Watch the live control room for stream health, interruptions, and copyright notices. A cloud service can keep sending a feed while YouTube still flags or interrupts the content.
For a general example of a cloud workflow with stream-key connection and playlist looping, see LiveGoLive’s YouTube service description. That page describes the vendor’s offering; it is not an independent test or endorsement. Check any provider’s current capabilities, terms, price, availability, and data handling before relying on it.
Understand copyright checks and monetization separately
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may show a placeholder, warn you, interrupt or terminate the broadcast, or apply a strike. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the rights owner may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Claims may also appear on an archived live stream after it ends. Details are in YouTube’s live copyright guidance.

Rights clearance is not the same as monetization eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and address original, authentic content, including repetitive or reused material that adds little original commentary, modification, education, or entertainment value. A public-domain film loop is not automatically eligible for monetization just because the underlying work is public domain. See YouTube’s monetization policy; do not assume a particular outcome for a channel or film.

Plan for replays as well as continuous streaming
A stream staying live and a complete replay being saved are separate outcomes. YouTube says broadcasts under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, plan a shorter broadcast rotation and keep a lawful source file or recording backup. Check the current YouTube archive guidance before relying on an archive.

| Option | Must a computer stay on? | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | No | Keep uploaded videos looping on YouTube from the cloud | Requires a paid slot after the free first day; storage and service terms apply |
| Another cloud encoder | No, according to the provider’s described workflow | Use that provider’s upload, playlist, and connection features | Capabilities, price, availability, and terms vary; verify them directly |
| Local encoder such as OBS | Yes, while it sends the feed | Control the encode locally and avoid a cloud streaming subscription | Requires a powered computer, stable internet, and local configuration |
| YouTube Premiere or ordinary upload | No continuous encoder is needed | Present a film on demand or as a scheduled showing rather than a continuous live loop | It is not the same as a continuous looped live broadcast |
