A slow connection can make the transfer take a long time, but YouTube says an interrupted upload can be continued for up to 24 hours by selecting the same file again at youtube.com/upload. Keep the original file unchanged and on your device until the upload finishes.
Uploading is not the same as going live: these steps transfer a saved video to YouTube, while a live broadcast is a separate workflow. If your goal is to keep a prerecorded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, see the cloud option below.

Upload a saved stream recording from a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create → Upload videos.
- Select the saved recording file. Keep the device powered and connected while it transfers, and leave the source file in place.
- Enter the video details YouTube requests, including the title and audience setting. Choose a privacy setting and complete any other required details.
- Wait for the upload to finish. YouTube may continue processing the video after the transfer is complete; HD and 4K processing can take longer than lower-resolution processing.
- When ready, choose whether to publish the video or leave it private or unlisted. Uploading imports the file; publishing is the separate action that makes it available to viewers.
YouTube lists slow or unstable internet and peak-hour ISP upload traffic among common causes of slow uploads. If the transfer is progressing, let it finish when possible rather than cancelling reflexively. Upload time depends on the file size, format, quality, available upload bandwidth, and network conditions; there is no reliable completion estimate without those details. YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance recommends allowing a slow upload to complete.
Resume an upload that stopped
YouTube says you have up to 24 hours to continue an interrupted upload from where it left off. Return to youtube.com/upload and select the same file again. Keep that original file on the device, and do not rename, edit, move, replace, or re-export it during the resume window: YouTube’s instructions specify the same file.

If you created a smaller re-encoded copy, treat it as a different file. You can upload that copy as a new attempt, but it is not necessarily the same source file needed to resume the original transfer.
Check upload speed in India before changing plans
Check upload speed, not download speed: a speed result for downloading does not tell you how quickly a video can be sent to YouTube. Test on the connection and device you plan to use, and compare the measured upload performance with the typical upload speed your internet provider states for your plan. Consider testing again at another time if the connection may be congested.

TRAI says it does not prescribe a minimum download or upload speed. Its broadband FAQ says providers must indicate typical speeds generally available under their tariffs; it also describes testing in which at least 90% of measured samples must meet or exceed the provider’s declared typical speed. TRAI names the TRAI MySpeed app and portal as ways subscribers can check broadband speed. This is not a nationwide upload-speed benchmark, so use your provider’s declared typical figure rather than assuming one minimum applies across India.
Choose whether to wait, switch networks, or make a smaller file

Reduce the file size without guessing at a universal bitrate
If the file is larger than necessary, export a smaller copy from video-editing software. YouTube identifies H.264 as a compression option that can reduce file size while maintaining quality; the result depends on the video and export settings, so check the new file’s visual quality before uploading. YouTube’s guidance does not establish one bitrate that is right for every recording, and compression cannot guarantee a particular upload-time improvement.

YouTube’s stated upload limit is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. Accounts must be verified to upload videos longer than 15 minutes. These are platform limits, not recommended file sizes. For an upload larger than the limit, YouTube advises using H.264 in video-editing software to compress it. Upload from an Android phone
The YouTube Android app lets you choose whether uploads use Wi-Fi or a mobile network. The menu path is Profile picture → Settings → General → Uploads. Choose the network option that suits your connection. Before enabling mobile-data uploads, check your carrier plan: data charges or limits may apply, and cellular upload is not guaranteed to be faster. See YouTube’s Android upload instructions.

Troubleshoot a slow or apparently stuck upload
- The progress is slow but still moving: YouTube identifies slow or unstable internet as a main cause. Check upload speed and connection stability, and let the transfer finish if you can.
- The connection dropped or you had to stop: Within 24 hours, return to youtube.com/upload and select the same unchanged file to continue.
- The upload is slow at busy times: ISP upload traffic can be heavier at peak hours. If practical, try again when your connection is less congested, while keeping the source file available.
- The file is very large: Consider creating a smaller H.264 export, weighing the reduced transfer size against possible quality loss. Upload the new export as a new attempt rather than assuming it can resume the original file’s progress.
- The transfer is done, but HD or 4K is not available yet: YouTube processes video after upload, and higher qualities can take longer. A delay in high-resolution playback does not by itself mean the file transfer is stuck.
- A video longer than 15 minutes will not upload: Verify the YouTube account, which is required for uploads longer than 15 minutes.
