You can store a video in DigitalOcean Spaces and upload it to YouTube, but YouTube Studio’s documented upload flow selects a file from your computer; it does not document importing a video directly from a Spaces URL. Spaces can store and serve a file, while YouTube Studio imports and publishes it. Looping a prerecorded file as a YouTube Live stream is a separate workflow: the available documentation does not establish that Spaces itself can send a file to YouTube Live or loop it automatically.
Choose the workflow that matches what you want
| Workflow | What it does | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio upload | Imports a prepared video file into YouTube, where you can edit details and choose when and how it is available to viewers. | The documented upload flow does not import directly from a DigitalOcean Spaces URL. YouTube Help: Upload YouTube videos. |
| DigitalOcean Spaces storage and delivery | Stores an object and can serve it from a URL. A CDN can distribute eligible objects from a Standard Storage bucket. | Spaces is not documented here as a YouTube ingestion service, video transcoder, playback loop, or live encoder. |
| YouTube Live encoder | Sends a live feed to YouTube through an encoder, subject to channel eligibility and stream configuration. | The cited YouTube and DigitalOcean documentation does not describe automatically pulling a prerecorded Spaces object into an encoder and looping it. |
Upload a Spaces-stored video to YouTube
For the documented YouTube Studio path, first make the video file available on the computer you will use to upload it. If your only copy is in Spaces, download it from your bucket before continuing. The YouTube instructions describe selecting a file from a computer, not entering an object-storage URL.

- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Upload videos.
- Select the video file on your computer and start the upload.
- Enter the video details and choose the visibility and publishing options that fit your channel.
- Complete the upload and publishing flow. Confirm the video’s availability using its watch page and the chosen visibility setting.
YouTube distinguishes uploading from publishing: uploading imports the file to YouTube; publishing makes it available for people to watch. A completed upload does not by itself mean that the video is public. YouTube says it converts uploaded videos to the highest resolution available for playback across devices and networks. YouTube Help explains upload and publication.
Upload a file to DigitalOcean Spaces
Use the control panel for smaller uploads
- Open the relevant Spaces bucket in the DigitalOcean control panel and select the Files tab.
- Choose the upload option and select the local file or files.
- Set the object permission to Private or Public intentionally, then complete the upload.
DigitalOcean documentation last verified in 2026 says the browser control panel supports individual files smaller than 2 GB and batches of fewer than 100 files. For larger files or batches, use an S3-compatible client or the API. DigitalOcean’s doctl CLI does not support uploading files to Spaces. Multipart upload splits a large object into parts that can be retried independently, which can improve reliability for large transfers. See DigitalOcean’s Spaces upload documentation.

Choose private, public, or temporary access
- Private: Spaces objects are private by default. Access requires authorization, unless you provide a temporary presigned URL.
- Public: Anyone with the object URL can access a public object. Use this only for files intended to be openly accessible.
- Presigned URL: A way to grant temporary access to a private object. It does not make the object permanently public.
Object access and bucket file-listing permission are separate settings: making an object available by URL does not mean you must allow visitors to browse a bucket’s full file list. Check the permission behavior for your intended use in DigitalOcean’s Spaces file-permissions guidance.
Use the Spaces CDN when the file is for delivery
For a Standard Storage bucket, you can enable the Spaces CDN and deliver the object through its CDN endpoint. DigitalOcean documents a default edge-cache TTL of one hour; updates to an object may therefore take time to appear at cached edges. Presigned requests are not cached, so do not expect them to receive CDN cache-hit benefits. Spaces Cold Storage does not support CDN integration. Details are in DigitalOcean’s guides to creating Spaces buckets and enabling the CDN.

What “looping” means on YouTube
YouTube documents looping for Clips, not as a general property of a Spaces-hosted file. Clips are 5–60 seconds long and play on a loop from the original video’s watch page, according to YouTube Help’s Clips guidance. That behavior does not show that a full-length video stored in Spaces will loop on YouTube, nor that a Spaces object will be relayed to YouTube Live.

- Capacity Display Variance: 500GB external ssd often appears as around 465GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 500 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage
- 1050 MB/s Speed: Instantly access to your files with blazing-fast 10Gbps external SSD read up to 1050MB/s and write up to 1000MB/s. LED Light indicates USB SSD instant activity
- Data Security: Solid state drives S.M.A.R.T. health diagnostics and adaptive TRIM optimizing data block management ensures consistent write speeds and extends the longevity of the portable SSD
- USB-C & USB-A Cable: Both cables featuring rapid USB 3.2 Gen2, this USB SSD effortlessly bridges devices, enabling seamless cross-platform file transfers and backup between computers, smartphones, tablets and iPhone
- Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity
If you mean a prerecorded video that stays on air as a YouTube Live broadcast, that requires a live-feed workflow in addition to storage: some method must read and play the file, send it through an encoder to YouTube, and handle looping and reconnection. The cited documentation covers Spaces object storage and YouTube encoder ingestion separately; it does not give a verified Spaces-to-encoder recipe. Do not treat a public object URL or the Spaces CDN endpoint as a stream key or a live encoder.
What YouTube Live requires
Channel eligibility and stream configuration
YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days. Supported live methods include mobile, webcam, and encoder. For encoder streaming, configure the event in YouTube’s Live Control Room, use the stream key and connection details with the encoder, and review the stream preview before going live. A stream key is a credential used by the encoder to send the feed to YouTube; keep it private. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements, encoder setup guidance, and live stream settings.

Visibility, DVR, and access checks
YouTube Live visibility can be public, private, or unlisted. Check the watch-page and mobile access you intend before relying on the stream. Enabling DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume the live stream; it is a viewer control, not a method for looping the source file. Use the Live Control Room preview to check audio and video before the broadcast.
Bandwidth headroom
YouTube Help recommends available upload bandwidth exceed the total stream bitrate and recommends 20% headroom in its streaming tips. This is YouTube’s guidance, not a guarantee that a given connection will sustain a broadcast. Leave capacity for other network use and check the encoder’s actual outgoing bitrate and stream health. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Common misunderstandings and fixes
- “The file is in Spaces, so Studio should be able to import its URL.” The documented Studio workflow selects a computer file. Download the object first, then select that local copy in Studio.
- “A public Spaces URL is a YouTube Live input.” Public access makes an object accessible by URL; it does not configure an encoder or establish that YouTube Live accepts the object URL as a feed. Use a supported live method and a separately configured encoder.
- “I uploaded the video, so viewers can watch it.” Upload and publication are distinct. Check the video’s visibility and publishing state in Studio.
- “The clip loops, so my full video or Spaces file will loop too.” The cited loop behavior applies to YouTube Clips of 5–60 seconds on the original video’s watch page, not to a Spaces object or a full-length live relay.
- “My updated object is not changing at the CDN URL.” DigitalOcean documents a default one-hour edge cache TTL. Allow for cache expiry or use an appropriate update strategy; presigned requests are not CDN-cached.
- “The browser upload fails on a large file or batch.” The control-panel limits are under 2 GB per file and fewer than 100 files per batch. Use an S3-compatible client or API for larger transfers; multipart upload permits retrying parts independently.
- “A private object is not opening without credentials.” That is expected for private objects. Use authorized access or create a presigned URL for temporary access; do not switch to public unless anyone with the URL should be able to retrieve it.
- “The live stream is unstable.” Check channel eligibility, the encoder’s stream key and connection settings, the Live Control Room preview, and available upload bandwidth against the total bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded video live on YouTube without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it does not re-encode or offer quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not live camera feeds. Learn about StreamNeo, then start the free first day.
