Xbox says this disc-to-digital feature covers supported titles only, and its August 26, 2026 announcement does not confirm that CrossWorlds is one of them. The console’s entitlement prompt is therefore the practical eligibility test.
If the prompt does not appear, Smart Delivery does not prove that your disc qualifies. You can buy the separate digital edition from the Xbox Store, subject to the live listing’s regional availability and price.

What “upgrade to digital” means on Xbox
Xbox describes the process as claiming a digital entitlement from a supported physical disc. It is not presented as an automatic conversion for every Xbox game, and Xbox does not guarantee that every disc owner receives a digital copy.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That wording matters for CrossWorlds. The Xbox Store listing identifies the game as Smart Delivery and optimized for Xbox Series X|S, and SEGA’s support FAQ says Smart Delivery is supported. Neither statement confirms that the physical CrossWorlds disc is eligible for Xbox’s separate disc-to-digital entitlement feature.
Before you try: hardware and evidence limits
You need a disc-drive console
- An Xbox One with a working disc drive can perform the described insertion-and-launch process.
- An Xbox Series X can perform it because Series X has a disc drive.
- An Xbox Series S cannot perform the described action because it has no disc drive. A Series S owner would need to use the separate digital purchase route.
The claim test is tied to the console that can read the physical media. If you own a Series S but also have access to an Xbox One or Series X, the practical test must be performed on the disc-drive console. The official announcement does not say that merely owning the disc automatically places a digital copy in your account without this process.
The game must be an eligible disc
Xbox has not published, in the announcement covered here, a definitive title list that confirms CrossWorlds eligibility. The feature is limited to supported discs, and Xbox says not every title is available. Do not treat the number “thousands of titles” as proof that this particular game is included.
Eligibility can also depend on the exact physical edition and platform. Do not assume that a different region, bundle, or another game in the Sonic series has the same treatment. Let the console identify the inserted disc rather than relying on a store badge or a result from a different platform.
The rollout date does not establish title eligibility
Xbox said Xbox Insiders would begin testing the feature on August 31, 2026. That date identifies the start of testing; it does not establish that every title had entitlement support at launch or that CrossWorlds was included. Availability can also change as Xbox adds supported games, so a later console result may differ from an earlier one.
How to check whether your CrossWorlds disc can claim digital access
- Use an Xbox One or Xbox Series X. Confirm that the console has a disc drive and that you are using the Xbox system on which you want to claim the entitlement.
- Insert the CrossWorlds disc. The disc must be in the console for Xbox to evaluate the supported-disc flow described by Xbox. Wait for the system to recognize the game rather than starting from an unrelated digital tile.
- Launch the game. Start Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds from the disc as Xbox’s instructions specify. If the console offers more than one edition, read the title and edition information before proceeding.
- Read the console’s current entitlement prompt. If Xbox offers a disc-to-digital claim, follow the on-screen instructions shown by your console. The official announcement does not provide a universal menu path or a game-specific redemption code, so use the wording and confirmation screen presented on your system rather than looking for an invented settings option.
- Check which account is signed in. Before accepting a claim, make sure the intended Xbox account is active. The announcement explains the claim mechanism but does not publish CrossWorlds-specific rules for changing accounts, family sharing, or transferring the entitlement later.
- Record what the console tells you. A clear entitlement offer is evidence that your disc and console qualify at that moment. No offer means Xbox has not presented a supported entitlement for this attempt; do not infer eligibility from Smart Delivery alone.
The sources do not state a CrossWorlds-specific redemption deadline, a discount, or a separate code that every owner can enter manually. They also do not establish that a digital entitlement remains attached to your account if the physical disc is later transferred. Keep the disc and its packaging until you understand the terms shown by your own console.

What to do when the entitlement prompt appears
Read the confirmation carefully
If the console offers a claim, check the title name and edition before accepting. The Xbox announcement describes claiming a digital entitlement, not replacing the disc with an unrestricted license whose transfer rules are known. Save or photograph the confirmation details if the screen supplies information about the account, edition, or continued disc use.
Do not cancel an offer merely because the store still displays a purchase button. A store listing can remain available for customers who do not own an eligible disc. The meaningful evidence is the entitlement language shown during the disc launch, not the presence or absence of a normal buy option elsewhere in the store.
Do not assume the disc can be discarded
Xbox says the physical disc continues to work as before. That is not the same as saying the disc can be sold, lent, or discarded after a claim. The official material reviewed here does not explain whether an entitlement survives a disc transfer, whether another account can claim from the same disc, or whether the disc is required for future launches. Until Xbox or the console’s terms answer those questions, retain the disc.
Expect the game to remain tied to the normal Xbox account rules
The announcement explains the claim mechanism but does not publish a CrossWorlds-specific statement about account permanence, console sharing, or transfer. Follow the account and license language displayed during the claim rather than assuming that a disc claim has the same terms as a separately purchased digital game. If the confirmation screen names an account, note that account before completing the claim.
If no disc-to-digital offer appears
A missing offer does not prove that your console is defective. Xbox’s feature is restricted to supported discs, and the official announcement does not identify CrossWorlds as eligible. The practical conclusion is simply that Xbox has not offered an entitlement for your disc through the current flow.
Check the conditions once
- Verify that the console is an Xbox One or Xbox Series X with a disc drive.
- Leave the CrossWorlds disc inserted while launching the game.
- Look for the console’s own entitlement wording rather than a Smart Delivery badge in the store.
- Make sure you are evaluating the Xbox disc edition, not assuming that a different platform’s upgrade policy applies.
- Confirm that the disc is readable and that the console identifies the correct game and edition.
- Use the account intended to receive any claim, because the on-screen terms may identify the signed-in account.
If those conditions are met and no entitlement appears, do not repeatedly treat the same Smart Delivery label as a conversion promise. The official pages reviewed do not provide a title-specific workaround or a guaranteed manual redemption route for CrossWorlds. There is also no published universal deadline or discount to wait for, so avoid relying on unverified codes or third-party instructions.

Smart Delivery is not the same as disc-to-digital
These labels answer different questions:
| Feature or label | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Delivery | The Xbox listing marks CrossWorlds as supporting Smart Delivery, and SEGA’s support answer says the feature is supported. | It does not prove that a physical CrossWorlds disc qualifies for Xbox’s disc-to-digital entitlement program. |
| Disc-to-digital entitlement | Xbox says owners of supported discs can claim a digital entitlement by inserting the disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X and launching the game. | It does not establish that every game, every edition, or CrossWorlds specifically is supported. |
| Xbox Store digital listing | A separate digital edition is offered through the Xbox Store listing, with live regional availability and pricing. | Its existence does not prove that a disc owner receives a free copy, a discount, or an automatic conversion. |
Smart Delivery generally concerns receiving the appropriate Xbox version when a title supports that system feature. The disc-to-digital program concerns whether Xbox recognizes a particular physical disc as eligible for a digital entitlement. Because the two claims come from different statements, one cannot be used as evidence for the other.
Your two access paths compared
| Access path | What you need | How eligibility is decided | Cost information | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claim from a supported disc | CrossWorlds disc, Xbox One or Xbox Series X with a disc drive, and the ability to insert and launch the game | The console must present Xbox’s disc-to-digital entitlement flow; CrossWorlds eligibility is not confirmed in the official sources reviewed | No universal price or discount is stated for a qualifying claim | Do not discard or transfer the disc based on assumptions about license permanence |
| Buy the Xbox digital edition | An Xbox account and access to the live Xbox Store listing; a disc drive is not required | Availability depends on the current storefront and your region | Check the live listing for the current price; the official information does not state a fixed amount | This is a separate purchase, not evidence of a disc-owner upgrade |
The disc route is worth checking first if you already own the game, because the test itself is the insertion-and-launch flow Xbox describes. The purchase route is the direct option when you only have a Series S, your disc is not recognized, or the console presents no entitlement. Compare the live price with the value of continuing to use the physical copy; there is no stated automatic owner discount.
Edition and platform cautions
Do not apply Nintendo Switch upgrade information to Xbox
SEGA’s June 9, 2025 release announcement discusses platform availability and distinguishes Nintendo Switch upgrade plans from Xbox. A Switch upgrade route cannot be extrapolated to an Xbox disc. For this question, use only the Xbox disc behavior and the Xbox Store listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck the live storefront for region and time
The Xbox Store listing is a live commercial page. Its price, availability, edition details, taxes, and other storefront conditions can vary by region and change over time. The existence of a listing is the relevant fact here; it is not a promise of a particular price or a permanent offer.
Do not confuse optimization with ownership
The store’s “optimized for Xbox Series X|S” and Smart Delivery labels describe platform features. They do not say that an Xbox One disc has been converted into a standalone digital license. Ownership and entitlement are decided by the disc-to-digital flow, if Xbox supports that particular disc.
Common mistakes and the correct interpretation
“Smart Delivery is shown, so my disc is already digital.”
Incorrect. Smart Delivery support and disc-to-digital eligibility are distinct. Use the insert-and-launch test for the entitlement feature.

“Xbox supports thousands of titles, so CrossWorlds must be included.”
Unproven. “Thousands of titles” is Xbox’s broad starting description, not a CrossWorlds confirmation.
“The store sells a digital version, so I should receive it free.”
Incorrect. The store listing supplies a separate purchase route. It does not establish a free upgrade, a discount, or a disc-owner entitlement.
“My Series S should be able to claim the disc entitlement.”
It cannot perform the stated insertion step because Series S has no disc drive. Use a digital purchase on that console unless you have access to an eligible disc-drive console and the entitlement can be claimed there under the terms shown by Xbox.
“After claiming, I can sell the disc.”
Do not assume that. Xbox says the physical disc continues to work as before, but the reviewed material does not specify what happens to a claimed entitlement when the disc changes hands.
“A redemption code found online must work.”
There is no published CrossWorlds-specific code in the official information covered here. Follow only the console’s current entitlement screen and avoid entering unofficial codes or relying on a claimed discount.
Troubleshooting the check without over-interpreting it
- Confirm the hardware first. If you are on Series S, the physical-disc test cannot run there. Move the test to an Xbox One or Series X with a disc drive if one is available.
- Start from the inserted disc. The announced process is specifically to insert a supported disc and launch the game. A store search, a downloaded trial, or a different digital copy is not the same test.
- Read the exact result. An entitlement offer is meaningful; a normal launch with no offer is not confirmation that CrossWorlds is eligible.
- Check the edition and account language. If the console displays an edition name or account confirmation, review it before accepting and keep a record of the terms.
- Stop when the result is clear. If the disc is recognized but no claim appears, there is no official manual workaround established for CrossWorlds. Use the physical disc or consider the separate store purchase.
This approach avoids treating ordinary installation, Smart Delivery messaging, or a store listing as proof of a digital entitlement. It also avoids promising a conversion that Xbox has not confirmed for this title.

A practical decision tree
- Do you have an Xbox One or Series X with a disc drive? If no, the described disc claim cannot be performed on that console. If yes, continue.
- Can the console read and launch your CrossWorlds disc? If no, the Xbox feature cannot evaluate the disc through the stated process. If yes, continue.
- Does the current launch flow offer an entitlement claim? If yes, review and accept only after reading the terms shown. If no, treat CrossWorlds eligibility as unconfirmed rather than relying on Smart Delivery.
- Do you need digital access anyway? If the claim is not offered, compare the live Xbox Store digital listing’s price and regional conditions with continuing to use the physical disc.
What is confirmed—and what remains unresolved
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Does Xbox have a disc-to-digital feature? | Yes. Xbox announced a feature allowing a digital entitlement claim from a supported disc by inserting and launching it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X. |
| Are all Xbox discs eligible? | No. Xbox says some titles will not be available. |
| Is CrossWorlds officially confirmed as eligible? | Not in the official Xbox and SEGA pages covered here. |
| Does CrossWorlds support Smart Delivery? | Yes, according to the Xbox Store listing and SEGA’s support FAQ. |
| Does Smart Delivery prove disc-to-digital eligibility? | No. |
| Can you buy a digital CrossWorlds edition separately? | Yes, through the Xbox Store listing, subject to live regional details. |
| Can you discard or sell the disc after claiming? | The official information does not answer that. Do not assume it. |
| Is there a universal price, discount, deadline, or redemption code? | Not established by the official information covered here. |
Bottom line for CrossWorlds owners
Insert the CrossWorlds disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X, launch the game, and follow the console’s entitlement flow if it appears. That is the only supported way in the Xbox announcement to test your disc. CrossWorlds is listed as Smart Delivery, but neither Xbox nor SEGA’s cited pages confirm that its physical disc is eligible for the separate disc-to-digital program. If no entitlement is offered, the available alternative is a separate Xbox Store purchase, with price and regional availability checked at the time you buy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I definitely upgrade my CrossWorlds Xbox disc for free?
No. Xbox’s feature applies only to supported discs, and the official pages do not confirm CrossWorlds eligibility or promise a free upgrade. Insert the disc into an Xbox One or Series X and launch it to see whether the console offers a claim.
Does Smart Delivery mean my physical disc is automatically digital?
No. Smart Delivery is supported for CrossWorlds, but it does not prove that the disc qualifies for the separate disc-to-digital entitlement feature.
Recommended Free Tools
Can I do this on Xbox Series S?
Not through the described process. Series S has no disc drive, so it cannot perform the required insertion step. The alternative is buying the digital edition from the Xbox Store.
What if no entitlement prompt appears?
Treat the disc as unconfirmed for the program. Check that you are using an Xbox One or Series X, that the disc is inserted and launches, and that you are reading the console’s current entitlement message. If no offer appears, use the disc or buy the separate digital edition.
Can I sell or discard the disc after claiming?
Do not assume that you can. Xbox says the physical disc continues to work as before, but the official information does not explain whether a claimed entitlement survives transfer or whether the disc is needed for future launches.
Is there a CrossWorlds redemption code, discount, or deadline?
None is established by the official information covered here. Follow the terms shown by your console and check the live Xbox Store listing for current pricing and availability.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: On an Xbox One or Xbox Series X, insert the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds disc and launch the game. Accept an entitlement only if the console offers the disc-to-digital flow and the displayed terms match the account and edition you want. Smart Delivery does not confirm eligibility. If no offer appears, the reliable alternative is a separate Xbox Store purchase; keep the physical disc because transfer and license rules are not established.
