Those thresholds do not cover the later SAML vulnerability CVE-2026-88779: if an appliance is configured as a SAML service provider or identity provider, use the higher applicable threshold in the table below. Inventory each appliance, check its configuration and support status, then roll out upgrades in controlled batches and investigate possible compromise separately.
Which NetScaler versions fix CVE-2026-88772?
Citrix’s CTX697096 bulletin lists these minimum fixed thresholds for CVE-2026-88772 and the other CVEs covered in that bulletin. Match the exact train and compliance variant; do not cross grades or treat a threshold for one variant as interchangeable with another.

| Product and train | Affected versions listed | Original fixed threshold |
|---|---|---|
| NetScaler ADC and Gateway 14.1 | Before 14.1-73.37 | 14.1-73.37 or later |
| NetScaler ADC and Gateway 13.1 | Before 13.1-64.23 | 13.1-64.23 or later releases of 13.1 |
| ADC 14.1-FIPS | Before 14.1-73.37 FIPS | 14.1-73.37 FIPS or later |
| ADC 13.1-FIPS and 13.1-NDcPP | Before 13.1.37.279 | 13.1.37.279 or later releases of those variants |
These are branch-specific minimums, not a recommendation to downgrade or move between trains. Citrix identifies supported versions as affected in the bulletin; that does not establish that an end-of-life release remains supported for remediation. Confirm the appliance’s exact build and current vendor support guidance before scheduling. Citrix CTX697096
Account for the later SAML vulnerability before choosing a target
Citrix’s later advisory, CTX697174, covers distinct CVE-2026-88779. It applies when NetScaler ADC or Gateway is configured as a SAML service provider (SP) or identity provider (IdP). Its fixed thresholds are higher than the original CVE-2026-88772 thresholds:

If the SAML configuration applies, select a vendor-supported build that meets this higher threshold as well as every other applicable requirement. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security says the SAML issue is distinct and is not fixed by the earlier updates. Check Citrix’s current security guidance immediately before the change; the cited thresholds are minimums, not confirmation of the latest recommended build. Check whether an appliance is exposed to CVE-2026-88772
Citrix describes CVE-2026-88772 as a memory overflow that can lead to remote code execution or denial of service. The stated precondition is DTLS enabled on NetScaler ADC or Gateway. Citrix says DTLS is enabled by default on a VPN virtual server unless explicitly disabled, and observed exploitation of CVE-2026-88772 and CVE-2026-88771 on unmitigated deployments. The CVSS v4.0 base score for CVE-2026-88772 is 9.5, a severity rating rather than a measure of exploitation likelihood, prevalence, or expected loss. Citrix CTX697096

Roll out the upgrade in a controlled order
Citrix urges affected customers to install relevant updates as soon as possible. The work should be prioritized without assuming that every appliance can safely be upgraded at the same time. Citrix CTX697096
- Inventory and classify. For each customer-managed appliance, record its product (ADC or Gateway), exact release and build, train, FIPS or NDcPP status, management ownership, internet exposure, and operational role. Confirm who owns cloud-managed services: Citrix says it updates Citrix-managed cloud services and Adaptive Authentication itself, so do not automatically assign those services an appliance patch task.
- Check applicability and choose a target. Inspect DTLS configuration for CVE-2026-88772 and SAML SP/IdP configuration for CVE-2026-88779. Choose a currently vendor-supported build on the appliance’s existing train and variant that clears every applicable threshold. Recheck Citrix’s live bulletin before execution.
- Prioritize internet-facing systems. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security recommends prioritizing remediation of internet-facing systems. Before upgrading, account for business impact, redundancy, change controls, and access to a recovery path. The cited advisories do not prescribe a universal node-by-node order for high-availability pairs, clusters, or multi-site deployments, so base the sequence on the actual topology and recovery plan. Canadian Centre for Cyber Security advisory
- Use the supported upgrade workflow. Citrix’s CVE-specific remediation page describes a single-step upgrade to a fixed build. In NetScaler Console, operators can find affected instances under CVE Detection, select them, and continue to the upgrade workflow. Citrix says that workflow can be applied to all impacted instances at once; that is an option, not a blanket instruction to upgrade an entire fleet simultaneously. Select batches that fit the organization’s redundancy and change plan. Citrix NetScaler Console remediation guidance
- Validate after each change. Confirm the running build on each upgraded appliance and check service and authentication behavior before moving to the next batch. Keep this operational validation distinct from investigation for signs of prior exploitation.
Investigate possible compromise separately from patching
The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security’s October 3 update warns that successful exploitation may leave persistence that survives application of updates. A successful upgrade therefore does not establish that an appliance is clean.
