Editing the street address on an old card alone does not change the storefront, taxes, currency, or payment rules attached to your account.
Apple requires you to clear several account conditions first: spend any remaining balance, let blocking subscriptions and pending transactions finish, leave Family Sharing when necessary, and download content that may disappear from the destination storefront. Payment methods are country-specific, so a card that worked in your previous country may be rejected.

What changes when you move to another country
Your Apple Account is tied to a country or region storefront. That setting controls which apps, media, subscriptions, payment types, currencies, taxes, and legal terms apply to purchases. A billing-address edit is only a payment-detail change; it does not move the storefront. For a permanent move, start the country/region change and provide destination details during that process.

Country move versus a routine payment update
If you are staying in the same country and only received a replacement card, use the ordinary payment-method editor to update the card number, expiration date, security code, or billing address. A country or region move is different: it changes the storefront attached to the account and requires destination terms and potentially a destination-region payment method. Changing only the address on an old payment method can leave the account in the former storefront.
Apple’s payment-method guidance also notes that subscriptions, unpaid balances, and Family Sharing purchase sharing can affect whether a payment method may be removed or replaced. Resolve those account obligations rather than repeatedly deleting and re-adding cards.
Prepare the account before changing its country or region
Apple’s country-change screen can stop until each blocking condition is resolved. Complete this checklist while the account is still set to the old storefront.

Use any remaining Apple Account balance
Spend the balance on an App Store or Apple-services purchase before attempting the move. If the remainder is less than the price of a single available item, Apple directs you to contact Apple Support to clear the residual amount; you cannot necessarily spend an amount that small through a normal purchase.
Do not assume that a balance will follow you automatically to the destination storefront. Clear it before starting the change, and keep the account details available if Support needs to verify ownership.
Cancel subscriptions that prevent the change
Cancel subscriptions that Apple identifies as blocking the move and wait until their paid periods actually end. Do not assume that a subscription transfers automatically or remains active in the destination storefront. Services such as Apple One or iCloud+ may be available to subscribe to again in the new location, but availability is not guaranteed.
A cancellation request is not always an immediate cancellation of access. Check the displayed end date and wait for the subscription period to finish before trying the country change again.

Finish pending activity
Wait for memberships, pre-orders, movie rentals, Season Passes, and store-credit refunds to complete. A pre-order may be cancellable if you need to change regions sooner; otherwise, the pending transaction can keep the country setting locked.
Review account notifications and purchase history for activity you may have forgotten. A refund that has been approved but not yet credited can still appear as pending, so allow the account status to update before resubmitting the region change.
Check Family Sharing
Membership in a Family Sharing group can prevent a country change. Leave the group when Apple’s instructions require it. Family purchase sharing and the organizer’s arrangements can also affect whether a payment method must remain on the account.

If you are the organizer, changing your own region may require resolving the group arrangement first. Do not remove a payment method blindly while purchase sharing, an unpaid balance, or a subscription still depends on it.

Download content you may need
Storefront catalogs are not identical. Before switching, download apps, music, films, television programs, and books to the devices on which you intend to use them. A title or app that was available in the old storefront may not be offered for redownload in the new one.
Downloading in advance does not guarantee that every title will remain available forever, but it gives you local copies for devices you plan to use while you check the destination catalog.
Have destination payment details ready
Use a payment type accepted in the destination country or region. Enter your legal name, street address, postal code, and other requested fields exactly as your bank or financial institution records them. Keep any bank verification method available; Apple or the issuer may require an additional authentication step.
Do not rely on a generic gift card or card recommendation. Payment eligibility is set by the destination storefront and the financial institution, so confirm acceptance for your specific location before beginning.
Change the country and enter payment details on iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro
The mobile and headset path uses Settings. Button wording can vary by operating-system version and by the localized Apple Support page, but the sequence is the same.
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Media & Purchases, then choose Country/Region.
- Select the country or region where you now live and continue.
- Review and accept the destination’s terms and conditions.
- When prompted, choose a payment method accepted in that country.
- Enter the new payment number or account details, billing name, billing address, postal code, and any other required information.
- Submit the change and complete an issuer or bank verification request if one appears.
If the destination does not require a payment method at that point, follow the on-screen option. If Apple insists on one, the country-change process cannot be completed with an unsupported card or an address that does not match the issuer’s records.
Change the country from a Mac
On a Mac, Apple documents the process in the Apple Music or Apple TV app rather than in System Settings.
- Open Apple Music or Apple TV and make sure you are signed in to the account you want to move.
- From the app’s Account menu, open the account settings.
- Choose the option to change the country or region.
- Select the destination, continue through the terms, and confirm the change.
- Enter a destination payment method and matching billing address when the app requests them.
- Finish any bank verification and save the account settings.
The exact menu label can differ between macOS releases and localized interfaces. If you cannot find the control in one app, check the other Apple media app while signed in to the same account.
Change the country from Windows
On Windows, use the account view in the Apple Music or Apple TV app.

- Open the Apple Music or Apple TV app and sign in.
- In the sidebar, select your name to open the account view.
- Choose the country/region change option.
- Select the new country, accept its terms, and continue.
- Provide a payment method and billing address valid for that destination if prompted.
- Complete any payment-provider verification and confirm.
Apple can revise labels and layouts in app updates. Follow the country/region control in the signed-in account view rather than trying to edit only the saved card address.
Change the country on the web
You can use Apple’s account website from a browser when you do not have the right device at hand.
- Go to
account.apple.comand sign in. - Open Personal Information.
- Select Country/Region.
- Choose the destination and follow the on-screen confirmation and terms.
- Enter the requested destination payment information and billing address.
- Submit the change and complete any verification step.
The web flow may show fewer choices than a device-specific screen. If it sends you back to a blocker message, resolve that account condition first rather than repeatedly submitting the form.

Match the financial institution’s records
Apple’s payment-method guidance says the account name, billing address, and other details should be spelled correctly and match the records held by your financial institution. Use the address where the payment account is registered, not a temporary mailing address, hotel, or forwarding address unless the issuer has that address on file.
Enter postal codes, apartment or unit information, and local address formatting as the issuer stores them. Even a correct physical address can fail an automated check if its spelling or postal-code format differs from the bank’s record.
Use a method accepted in the destination
Eligibility is determined by country or region. A card, bank account, or other method that was accepted in your former storefront may not be supported after the change. Check the destination’s accepted-method rules and ask the issuer whether international or online merchant verification is enabled.
Acceptance can also depend on the account’s country setting. If Apple still sees the old storefront, a method restricted to the new region may be rejected until the country/region operation is completed.

If the bank opens a verification window, sends a one-time code, or asks you to approve the charge in its app, finish that step before leaving Apple’s form. A failed authentication can look like an Apple billing-address error even when the address is correct.
Why Apple may refuse the country or region change
The message you see usually points to one of a small number of account conditions. Work through the relevant branch instead of deleting payment details at random.
There is still Apple Account balance
Check the balance in your account settings and spend it. For a remainder below the price of one item, contact Apple Support and ask for the balance to be cleared; changing the card address will not remove that blocker.

A subscription has not ended
Open your subscription list, cancel the blocking service, and wait until the displayed expiration date passes. A cancellation request alone may not be enough while the paid period is still active. After the region change, verify whether the service is offered locally before subscribing again.
A purchase, rental, pre-order, or refund is pending
Review purchase history and account notifications. Let memberships, rentals, Season Passes, pre-orders, and store-credit refunds settle. If a pre-order can be cancelled, doing so may remove the hold; otherwise, wait for completion.
Family Sharing is active
Leave the Family Sharing group if Apple requires it. If you are the organizer, resolve the group arrangement first; purchase sharing can require a payment method to remain attached even when you are trying to remove or replace one.
The payment method is rejected
Re-enter the name and billing address exactly as the financial institution stores them, including postal-code formatting. Confirm that the payment type is supported in the destination country and that the issuer has approved the transaction. Complete any bank verification prompt. If the account is still set to the old country, change that setting before trying to add a method accepted only in the new region.
You are trying to edit only the old card
Use the Country/Region control, not just the payment-method editor. Apple treats a storefront move as a separate account operation, and the new country’s terms and payment rules must be accepted during that operation.
What if you do not want to enter a payment method?
Apple describes an alternative for people who do not want to provide a payment method during the move: wait until you are physically in the new country or region, then create a new Apple Account. This is a separate account, not a shortcut that changes the old one.
Apple’s instruction does not say that purchase history, remaining balance, subscriptions, or other account data transfer to the new account. Treat those items as belonging to the original account and review the consequences before choosing this route.

Verify subscriptions and services
Open the subscription area and confirm which services are active in the new storefront. Apple One, iCloud+, and other offerings may need a fresh subscription if they are available in your destination; do not assume the old plan carried over.
Check your downloaded and purchased content
Test the apps and media you downloaded before the move. Content availability is determined by the destination storefront, so keep local copies of anything important and note that a title absent from the new catalog may not be available for a future redownload.
Review the saved payment profile
Confirm that the destination payment method, billing name, address, and postal code appear correctly. Keep the issuer’s contact and verification method available for the first purchase in the new region.

Remove the former payment method only when safe
After the move, you may want to remove an old card. Apple’s payment-method guidance indicates that an unpaid balance, an active subscription, or Family Sharing purchase sharing can require a payment method to remain on the account. Replace the method first or wait until those obligations are resolved; otherwise, removal can fail or leave a service without a valid way to bill.

All four routes perform the same account-level change. The interface labels can vary by operating-system release and localized Apple page, while payment eligibility remains specific to the destination country or region.
Practical sequence for a smooth move
- Save or download content that may not exist in the destination storefront.
- Spend the account balance, or contact Apple Support about a remainder smaller than one item.
- Cancel blocking subscriptions and wait for their end dates.
- Resolve pre-orders, rentals, Season Passes, memberships, and pending refunds.
- Leave Family Sharing if it prevents the change.
- Confirm that your destination payment method is accepted and that its billing records use the address you will enter.
- Run the country/region change from Settings, Apple Music/Apple TV, or the web account page.
- Accept the destination terms, enter the payment and billing details, and complete bank verification.
- Afterward, check subscriptions, content availability, and the saved billing profile.

Can I change only my Apple ID billing address instead of changing countries?
Yes, if you remain in the same storefront and only need to correct payment details. For an international move, edit the Apple Account Country/Region setting; changing an old card’s street address alone does not change the storefront, currency, taxes, or destination payment rules.
Why does Apple require me to spend my remaining balance?
