To update Snapchat on a standard Samsung Galaxy phone, open Google Play, search for Snapchat, and tap Update if the button appears. That updates only the app. Your Galaxy’s system software, the Android and One UI layer, is updated separately under Settings > Software update. This guide covers both, plus what to do when an update fails and why a friend may have a Snapchat feature you don’t.
Two different updates: the app and the phone

How to update Snapchat from Google Play
- Open Google Play Store on the Galaxy phone. A Google account is required for Play Store access.
- Search for Snapchat and open its listing.
- If Update appears, tap it and let the installation finish.
- If the listing only shows Open, Google Play isn’t offering an update for your installation right now. That doesn’t prove you have the newest build everywhere, since updates can reach users in stages.
Samsung identifies Google Play as an app store on Galaxy devices, and Snapchat Support points Android users to Google Play for update troubleshooting.

Samsung’s instructions place app-update controls in the Play Store’s settings. Open Play Store, tap your profile icon, and look in Settings for the network or auto-update options. The exact path changes with the Play Store’s current design, so treat this as a guide rather than a fixed route. Samsung’s Gulf support page (updated June 9, 2026) also describes Galaxy Store update paths, but regional instructions may differ from your country’s.

How to update your Galaxy’s system software
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update (some devices say System updates).
- Tap Download and install, Check for updates, or the equivalent option shown.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Samsung cautions that you can’t use the device during installation and files may be inaccessible, so don’t start one when you need the phone. Some carriers require Wi-Fi for the download.
If no update appears, that doesn’t mean something is wrong. Samsung says availability varies by model and wireless provider. Check your carrier’s release information or Samsung Support for your exact model rather than expecting a fixed date.

Optional: update through Smart Switch on a computer
Samsung documents a second route using Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac.
- Connect the phone with its included USB cable (some PCs may need a USB adapter).
- Open Smart Switch on the computer.
- Select Update if it’s offered, and follow the prompts.
- Don’t disconnect or use the phone until it finishes.
Samsung says to use the cable that came with the device. You only need a different compatible USB data cable if you no longer have it.

Troubleshooting
Snapchat won’t install or update
Snapchat Support sends Android users with this problem to Google’s app-install troubleshooting, the Google Play Community, or the device manufacturer. Its guidance doesn’t name a specific cause or promise that clearing cache or storage fixes it, so work through Google’s steps instead of guessing.
Snapchat is crashing, stuck or misbehaving
- Update the app in Google Play.
- Close and reopen Snapchat.
- Restart the phone.
- Check your connection by switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- If it persists, report a bug from within the app, as Snapchat’s help page directs.
A friend has a feature you don’t
Snapchat Support says: “Sometimes there’s a short wait before a new feature is available to all Snapchatters.” Update the app first, but expect that some features arrive after you’re already current.

Snapchat isn’t available or won’t show in Google Play
Check two things: your Android version and whether your phone has Google Mobile Services. Snapchat Support says: “We support Android devices running Android 5.0 or newer, and iOS devices running iOS 14.0 or higher.” It also describes a separate download path for devices without Google Mobile Services, so the Play Store steps above don’t fit every Android setup. Snapchat’s guidance doesn’t confirm availability for every Samsung model or country; use its official device-support page for yours.

The Galaxy system update fails or stops partway
If the phone lost its connection before the update completed, Samsung says to reconnect to a network and try again. Samsung’s page mentions backing up important data in connection with a factory reset used for recovery. A reset is a last resort, not an early fix.
