Quick answer: update Pokopia in four steps
- Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet.
- On the HOME Menu, highlight the Pokémon Pokopia icon. Do not launch it.
- Press the + or − button to open the software options and check the version displayed under the game title.
- Choose Software Update, then choose Over the Internet.
The console checks for an available game update and applies it through Nintendo’s software-update process. Nintendo says your save data remains available after downloading the update. The game update is required for Pokopia’s internet features, and players who play together must be on the same software version.

Use the HOME Menu, not the game’s title screen
The version shown in this process is the installed version of the Pokopia game software. From the Nintendo Switch 2 HOME Menu, move the selection box onto the Pokopia icon. Leave the game closed, then press either + or − on the controller. The software-information screen opens, and the current version appears beneath the game title.

Write down the complete number, including the “Ver.” label, before contacting support or comparing your version with another player. A matching version matters when you are trying to play together; Nintendo’s support wording is explicit: All players must be using the same version of the software to play together.
Do not confuse the game version with the console system version
Pokopia’s version number identifies the game software. The Nintendo Switch 2 also has a separate system-software version for the console itself. Updating console firmware and updating Pokopia are different operations, and a system-version number does not tell you whether the game has received Ver. 2.0.1. Use the Pokopia icon’s + or − menu when the question is which game version you are running.
How to update Pokémon Pokopia manually
Step 1: connect the console to the internet
The game update is downloaded over the internet, so the console must have a working connection. If your Switch 2 is already online, continue to the software menu. If it is offline, open System Settings from the HOME Menu, select Internet, and then select Internet Settings.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Step 2: choose your wireless network
In Internet Settings, select the wireless network you want to use. Enter the network password if the console requests one, then wait for the connection test to complete. Nintendo’s support guidance suggests placing the console within 10 feet of the wireless router for a strong signal. That distance is guidance, not a guarantee: walls, interference, router settings and network congestion can still affect the connection.
Step 3: open Pokopia’s software options
Return to the HOME Menu and highlight Pokémon Pokopia without starting the game. Press + or −. Choosing the icon first is important because the software options belong to the selected title; launching the game takes you into gameplay instead of the HOME Menu update controls.
Step 4: request the update over the internet
Select Software Update, then select Over the Internet. The console checks Nintendo’s update service for the title and downloads an available Pokopia update. Keep the console connected while the download and installation complete. When the process finishes, reopen the software options and check the version number again if you need to confirm the installed release.
What the latest Pokopia version is
Version information is time-sensitive and regional. The following entries are the releases listed on Nintendo’s regional support pages as of October 13, 2026.
Recommended Free Tools
| Region or page | Latest version listed | Release date shown | What to note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo of America | Ver. 2.0.1 | September 7, 2026 | Latest version listed on the North American support page as of October 13, 2026. |
| Nintendo UK | Ver. 2.0.1 | September 8, 2026 | The same version is dated one calendar day later on the UK page. |
The one-day difference does not mean the game has different numbered software in those territories. It reflects the release date displayed by each regional Nintendo page. If you are documenting an update for someone else, include your region with the date and always compare the full version number.

What Ver. 2.0.1 fixes
Nintendo lists Ver. 2.0.1 as a corrective update. The fixes are conditional, meaning they address problems that occur only under certain circumstances rather than changing every player’s experience in the same way.
| Area affected | Issue Nintendo says is fixed |
|---|---|
| Legendary Pokémon appearances | Under certain conditions, Ho-Oh and Lugia could repeatedly descend and reappear. |
| Pokédex search | Under certain conditions, Pokémon could not be found by using the Pokédex search function. |
| Relocation kit | Under certain conditions, the relocation kit could not be picked up. |
| Sound and stability | Under certain conditions, sound effects could play repeatedly, the game could freeze, or the game could remain stuck on the loading screen. |
| Brazil ratings | Nintendo’s North American page includes a Brazil-specific rating-settings change, marked as updated October 1, 2026. It is not a general gameplay change for every region. |
If you experienced one of these problems, installing Ver. 2.0.1 is the supported first step. The notes do not promise that every possible freeze, loading problem or search failure has been eliminated; they identify the conditions Nintendo addressed in this release.
Why updating matters for internet and multiplayer features
The update requirement and the membership requirement are different
Nintendo says the Pokopia update must be applied to use the game’s internet features. Separately, Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for the game’s online features. Installing the update does not substitute for that membership, and having a membership does not remove the requirement to run the current compatible software.
Nintendo’s online-safety information also describes the membership as sold separately and used with a Nintendo Account for online features. Whether you need it depends on the online feature you are trying to use; it is not required merely to open the single-player software or to view the installed version from the HOME Menu.
Players need matching software versions
When coordinating with another player, have both people check the number beneath the Pokopia title on the HOME Menu. If one console shows a different version, update the older installation before trying to play together. This check distinguishes a software mismatch from other causes of an online problem, such as a missing membership or a network connection issue.
Automatic updates: what Nintendo confirms
Nintendo says automatic download and installation can occur when the console is connected to the internet and automatic software updates are enabled. That can reduce the need to request an update manually, but it does not change how you verify the installed Pokopia version: highlight the game on the HOME Menu, press + or −, and read the displayed number.
Because Nintendo’s North American support text does not provide a complete, unambiguous setting path for the automatic-update option, use the manual Software Update > Over the Internet route when you need a known procedure. If an automatic download has already occurred, checking the version confirms what is actually installed rather than what you expected the console to download.
Save data, downloads and what to expect after updating
Your save data remains available
Nintendo states that save data remains available after downloading the update. The update is applied to the game software; it is not described as a save-data reset. You should still let the download and installation finish normally and avoid interrupting the console while it is processing the update.

- Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass
Check the number after installation
Once the update completes, return to the HOME Menu, highlight Pokopia, press + or −, and read the version beneath the title. This second check is useful when you are preparing to use internet features or trying to join another player, because it confirms the result on the console that will actually run the game.
Keep regional dates in context
A regional support page may show a date that differs from another territory by one day, as the North American and UK pages do for Ver. 2.0.1. Compare the version number first. Treat the date as a region-specific publication detail rather than evidence that you need a different update procedure.
Troubleshooting the update process
The update option is missing or you opened the wrong screen
- Return to the HOME Menu and highlight the Pokopia icon; do not launch the game first.
- Press + or − to open the software options.
- Select Software Update, then Over the Internet.
- If you were looking at the console’s system settings instead, return to the game icon. The game update is requested from the selected software’s options.
The console cannot connect
- Open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
- Select the intended wireless network.
- Enter its password when prompted.
- Move the console closer to the router; Nintendo suggests within 10 feet for a strong signal.
- After the connection test succeeds, retry the Pokopia software-update path.
The 10-foot suggestion improves the chance of a strong signal but does not diagnose every wireless fault. If the connection remains unavailable, resolve the console’s internet connection first; the game cannot download an online update while the console is offline.
The game still shows an older version
- Check that you selected Pokopia itself before pressing + or −.
- Run Software Update > Over the Internet again while connected.
- Wait for the download and installation to finish before reopening the software options.
- Read the complete version number under the title. Do not use the console system-version number as a substitute.
If Nintendo’s regional page lists a newer version than your console displays, the manual update check is the relevant next action. The support material does not establish a separate Pokopia update method through a third-party utility, so do not install one for this workflow.
Online play still does not work
First compare the Pokopia version numbers on all consoles. Nintendo requires players who play together to use the same software version. Then separate the remaining checks: the game update must be installed for internet features, while Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online features. These are two distinct requirements, not two names for the same problem.
You encountered a freeze, repeated sound or loading-screen problem
Check the installed version before trying other explanations. Ver. 2.0.1 specifically addresses conditional cases involving repeated sound effects, freezing and getting stuck on the loading screen, as well as the listed Ho-Oh, Lugia, Pokédex-search and relocation-kit issues. If the console already shows Ver. 2.0.1, the Nintendo notes do not identify an additional game-specific fix in the material listed here; record the exact circumstances and consult Nintendo’s current regional support information for the latest guidance.
How Ver. 2.0.0 fits into the recent update history
Nintendo’s previous listed update was Ver. 2.0.0. It added Dive, underwater house building, new items and other features, along with a large set of changes and bug fixes. That history explains why a player returning after an older installation may notice substantial new content, but it does not replace the current update check. Install the latest version available for your region, then use Nintendo’s current version-history page for the complete list of changes in earlier releases.

A short pre-play checklist
- Pokopia is highlighted on the HOME Menu rather than running.
- The version beneath the title has been recorded.
- The console is connected through System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings if an update is needed.
- Software Update > Over the Internet has been selected for a manual check.
- The installation has finished before the game is reopened.
- Every player who will play together shows the same software version.
- Nintendo Switch Online membership is available when the specific online feature requires it.
For the version currently listed by Nintendo’s North American page as of October 13, 2026, the target is Ver. 2.0.1. Verify against your own regional Nintendo support page because version histories and displayed release dates can change.

What to record when an update problem persists
If the update does not appear to install, note the exact version shown beneath the Pokopia title, the Nintendo region you are using, whether the console completed its internet connection test, and whether the problem occurs before or after selecting Software Update > Over the Internet. Those details separate a version mismatch from a connection failure or a problem that occurs inside the game.
For multiplayer troubleshooting, record the version from every participating console rather than relying on one player’s number. Nintendo’s matching-version requirement applies to all players, so one older installation can prevent the group from using the same online session. If everyone matches and the update is installed, check the separate Nintendo Switch Online requirement for the feature you are attempting.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Update terminology that prevents mistakes
Installed version means the number displayed in Pokopia’s software options on the HOME Menu. Latest listed version means the newest release shown on Nintendo’s regional support page at the time you check it. Those terms can differ temporarily if a console has not downloaded an available update. Likewise, a release date shown by Nintendo of America or Nintendo UK describes that page’s territory; it is not a different command or a different version number.
