To update The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2, connect the console to the internet, highlight the game on the HOME Menu, press + or –, choose Software Update, and select Via the Internet. Install anything the console offers, then launch the game.
Bethesda’s latest documented Switch 2 game patch was Patch 1.1, dated September 17, 2026, when the official listing was checked on October 13, 2026. Because patch listings can change, use Bethesda’s live Oblivion Remastered news page as the current reference. Nintendo’s online check is the reliable way to determine whether your console has an update available; the official information does not establish that this game displays a specific patch number inside its own menus.

Fastest way to update the game
- Connect Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet.
- From the HOME Menu, highlight The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered without opening it.
- Press the + or – button.
- Choose Software Update.
- Select Via the Internet.
- Allow the download and installation to finish. Start the game after the process completes.
If Nintendo says no update is available, the console found no newer version for that title at that time. Bethesda’s dated patch listing can tell you which release is currently documented, but it does not replace Nintendo’s per-console check.

What you need before checking
An internet connection
The Via the Internet option checks Nintendo’s update service, so Switch 2 must be online. The same connection is used to download and install the game update. If the console is offline, an online title update cannot be checked or downloaded through this procedure.
The game installed on the console
The game icon must be present on the HOME Menu. You do not need to launch the game before opening its update menu. A physical or digital owner does not need to purchase anything again to install a software update. Nintendo’s documented method requires no special accessory, repair tool, replacement part or consumable.
Automatic-update setting is optional
You can let Switch 2 download installed software updates automatically while it is online. Open System Settings from HOME, select System, and enable Automatic Software Updates. This is convenient, but it is not a substitute for the manual check when you need an immediate answer about Oblivion Remastered.

Edition and cartridge notes
Bethesda’s Switch 2 FAQ for the launch patch states that the standard and Deluxe editions are sold digitally through Nintendo eShop, while only the Deluxe Edition is available on a physical cartridge. Those edition differences do not create a different update path for an existing owner. Use the same HOME Menu procedure for the installed copy.
If you are deciding whether to buy the game, the edition information is relevant to availability, not to patch access. Once an edition is installed and associated with your console, its updates are obtained through Nintendo’s software-update service. Buying a second edition is not an update requirement.
Manual update: exact HOME Menu procedure
1. Put Switch 2 online
Connect the console to a working internet connection before starting. Nintendo’s official instructions cover this process for Switch software and include Nintendo Switch 2 in their support categories: How to Update Software on Nintendo Switch.
2. Highlight Oblivion Remastered
Return to the HOME Menu and move the selection to the Oblivion Remastered icon. Do not open the game yet. The update command is available from the icon’s options screen.

3. Open the software options
Press either the + or – button. These buttons open the software information and management screen for the highlighted title.
4. Choose Software Update
Select Software Update from the options. This command concerns the selected game, not the Switch 2 operating system.
5. Select Via the Internet
Choose Via the Internet. Switch 2 contacts Nintendo’s service and checks whether a newer version is available for your copy and console.
6. Let the process finish
If an update is offered, leave the console connected while it downloads and installs. Wait for the console to report completion before launching the game. Starting too early can leave you looking at the old installed build while the update is still pending. If the console enters sleep during the process, keep it connected and allow Nintendo’s normal download behavior to complete rather than interrupting the installation.

7. Launch the game
After installation completes, start Oblivion Remastered. Nintendo also documents that an available software update may be offered when you launch software while connected to the internet, so accepting an in-game launch prompt is another legitimate route.
Automatic updates versus a manual check
Both routes use Nintendo’s software-update system, but they serve different needs.
| Route | How it works | What you do | Best use | What it confirms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic Software Updates | Switch 2 downloads updates for installed software while the console is online when the setting is enabled. | Open System Settings → System and turn on Automatic Software Updates. | Keeping installed games current without checking each icon. | It may keep the game current, but it does not give you an immediate title-specific result on demand. |
| Manual Via the Internet check | The console checks the selected title immediately. | HOME Menu game icon → + or – → Software Update → Via the Internet. | Verifying Oblivion Remastered before playing or troubleshooting a reported fix. | Whether Nintendo has a newer version available at the moment of the check. |
Internet access is required for the online check and for downloading an update. Automatic updating is a convenience setting; the manual route gives the clearest immediate answer for this particular game. If you routinely play offline, turn on automatic updates whenever the console has a connection, then perform a manual check before a planned offline session.
Latest documented Switch 2 patch
When Bethesda’s official listing was checked on October 13, 2026, the newest Switch 2 entry was Patch 1.1, released September 17, 2026. Bethesda’s listing placed it above the launch-day Patch 1.0, dated August 11, 2026. Check the live listing again when you read this because a later release can supersede Patch 1.1.
| Patch | Date | What the official notes establish | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patch 1.1 | September 17, 2026 | Switch 2 fixes for crashes, gameplay problems and one visual issue. | Bethesda Patch 1.1 notes |
| Patch 1.0 | August 11, 2026 | Launch patch with crash, performance, quest, save/load, control and localization fixes. | Bethesda Patch 1.0 notes and FAQ |
The dates identify Bethesda’s published Switch 2 patch sequence. They are not a promise that every console will show the same number in an in-game menu, because the official material reviewed does not document an in-game patch-number display for this title.
Patch numbers are useful for matching a Bethesda announcement to a known fix, but Nintendo’s availability result is still the operational test. A patch can be listed publicly before a particular console sees it, or a later patch can replace the one shown in an older article. Always compare the date and platform label, not just the number.
What Patch 1.1 addresses
Patch 1.1 is not merely a cosmetic release. Bethesda’s notes describe fixes in several categories.
Crash fixes
- Crashes caused by quickly using the Altar of Enchanting or Altar of Spell Making.
- Crashes when opening or navigating the player map.
- Crashes when switching to the third-person camera.
- Crashes in certain quest or fast-travel situations.
- A crash or failure associated with idling outside in the Kvatch Oblivion realm.
- Crashes involving bound spells and certain waiting interactions.
Gameplay fixes
- Incorrect random equipment during the Blessing of Talos portion of the Umaril quest.
- Jitter while moving through shallow water while Water Walking is active.
- An out-of-world escape at the Temple of the One during the Imperial Dragon Armor quest.
- Underwater breath-bar depletion during loading screens.
Visual fix
- Corrected the animation of the Lucky Old Lady statue in Bravil.
These are the issues Bethesda specifically lists for Patch 1.1. The notes do not provide a separate menu path for checking the installed version, so use Nintendo’s update result for installation status. The notes also should not be read as a guarantee that every crash, quest issue or performance problem is covered; they identify the fixes Bethesda chose to publish for this release.

Use Nintendo’s result first
Run the manual sequence while the console is online. If Software Update → Via the Internet reports that no update is available, Nintendo’s service found no newer version for Oblivion Remastered at that moment. If it downloads and installs an update, wait for completion before launching the game.
Compare with Bethesda’s dated listing
Open Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered game page and news listing and look for the newest Switch 2 patch entry. At the October 13, 2026 check, that entry was Patch 1.1 from September 17, 2026. If the listing now shows a later Switch 2 patch, Nintendo’s online check is the route that determines whether your console still needs it.
Do not rely on an unverified in-game number
The official Nintendo instructions and Bethesda notes reviewed do not verify that the game has a Software Information panel or another in-game screen that displays a specific patch number. Do not treat the absence of such a screen as evidence that the update failed. The documented confirmation is the console’s online check, followed by comparison with Bethesda’s current dated announcement.

Understand what “no update available” means
That message means no newer package was available to the console during that check. It does not mean that Nintendo’s system software and the game share one version number, nor does it establish that an in-game version label exists. If Bethesda has just announced a patch, check again later while connected, since service timing can affect when a console sees a release.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck after an interrupted download
If a download was interrupted, reconnect to the internet and repeat the same manual path. Do not assume that seeing a download begin means the title is fully updated. The useful confirmation is a completed installation followed by a check that reports no newer update available.
Troubleshooting the update check
The Software Update option is missing
Make sure the game icon itself is highlighted on the HOME Menu before pressing + or –. The command belongs to the selected software. If you are already inside the game, close it and return to HOME, then repeat the icon-based procedure.
The console says no update is available
First, confirm that Switch 2 is online and that you selected Via the Internet, not a different update source. A successful “no update” result means Nintendo found no newer version at that time. Compare the result with Bethesda’s latest dated Switch 2 listing; if a newer announcement has appeared, perform the check again later.
An update prompt appears when launching
Nintendo documents that available software updates can be offered when starting software while the console is connected. Accept the prompt, allow installation to complete, and then launch the game normally. You do not need to run a second manual check unless you want an additional confirmation.
You expected a console firmware update to fix the game
Do not confuse the two update systems. The game’s Software Update menu installs Oblivion Remastered data. Switch 2 firmware is maintained separately through Nintendo’s system-update controls. Updating firmware alone is not the documented method for installing a title patch.
The game behaves as though it is still old
Confirm that the download and installation finished, rather than merely starting. Close and relaunch the game after completion, then repeat the manual online check if necessary. Use Bethesda’s patch notes to see whether the behavior you are investigating is among the fixes listed for Patch 1.1; the notes cannot establish that every unrelated problem was corrected.
A physical and digital copy seem different
The edition format does not change the HOME Menu update command. Bethesda’s FAQ identifies the standard and Deluxe digital editions and the Deluxe physical cartridge, but an owner of any installed edition follows the same Nintendo procedure. Do not buy a second copy to obtain a patch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Game updates and Switch 2 system updates are separate
Nintendo’s system software has its own release history. The Nintendo UK support page listed system version 23.0.1, released October 1, 2026, as the latest Switch 2 system version at the time of the cited check: System Update Information for Nintendo Switch 2.
That number describes console firmware, not Oblivion Remastered. The game update path remains HOME Menu game icon → + or – → Software Update → Via the Internet. Conversely, installing a game patch does not mean the console firmware is current. Treat the two checks as separate maintenance tasks.
If you choose to maintain both, first use Nintendo’s system-update controls for firmware when needed, then use the selected game’s Software Update menu for Oblivion. Neither number can be substituted for the other when reporting which build is installed.

What Patch 1.0 tells you about the launch sequence
Bethesda dated Patch 1.0 August 11, 2026, the Switch 2 launch-patch entry that preceded Patch 1.1. Its notes include numerous crash and performance corrections, including problems in quest scenes, crashes while saving or loading, and a hang when fast-travelling from city interiors. Bethesda also listed control and localization fixes.
This chronology matters when reading older support posts. A report referring to Patch 1.0 may describe the launch state rather than the current Switch 2 build. Use the date and patch number in Bethesda’s official notes, then perform the live Nintendo check on your own console instead of assuming that an old post identifies the version currently installed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I update Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2?
Connect Switch 2 to the internet, highlight the game on the HOME Menu, press + or –, choose Software Update, and select Via the Internet. Let the download and installation finish before launching the game.
What was the latest Oblivion Remastered Switch 2 patch?
Bethesda’s listing showed Patch 1.1, dated September 17, 2026, as the latest Switch 2 entry when checked October 13, 2026. Check Bethesda’s live game news page for a newer release.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →How do I know whether the latest patch is installed?
Run the HOME Menu update check while online. If Nintendo reports that no update is available, it found no newer package for the title at that time. Compare that result with Bethesda’s newest dated Switch 2 listing.
Does Oblivion Remastered show a patch number in its menus?
The official Nintendo instructions and Bethesda patch notes do not verify an in-game screen that displays a specific patch number. Do not rely on an assumed Software Information panel; use Nintendo’s online result.
Do I need to update Switch 2 firmware to install the game patch?
No. Game software and console firmware use separate update systems. The game’s HOME Menu Software Update command installs Oblivion data; a system update does not by itself install the title patch.
Can automatic updates keep the game current?
Yes. In System Settings → System, enable Automatic Software Updates. Switch 2 can download updates for installed software while online, but a manual Via the Internet check gives the clearest immediate result for Oblivion.
Do physical and digital editions use different update steps?
No. Bethesda says standard and Deluxe editions are digital, while Deluxe is also available on cartridge. Once installed, either format uses the same HOME Menu update path, and an existing owner does not need to buy the game again.
What should I do if Bethesda lists a patch but Switch 2 finds none?
Confirm the console is online, repeat the manual check, and allow for service timing after a new announcement. The Nintendo result determines whether an update is available to your console at that moment; Bethesda’s listing identifies the published release.
The Bottom Line
For Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2, use HOME Menu → game icon → + or – → Software Update → Via the Internet, then wait for installation to complete. Patch 1.1, dated September 17, 2026, was Bethesda’s latest documented Switch 2 patch on October 13, 2026; verify the live listing for later releases. A “no update available” result is Nintendo’s documented confirmation, and game patches must be checked separately from Switch 2 firmware.
