If your Galaxy A57 will not start, connect it to a Mac or Windows PC with a USB-C data cable and open Samsung Smart Switch. If Smart Switch recognizes the phone and offers Update, follow that procedure without disconnecting the cable. If an update was interrupted or Smart Switch shows an emergency-recovery state, use MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization. A different USB port, the Smart Switch device-driver reinstall option, or a second computer with a recovery code can resolve recognition and recovery failures. Smart Switch cannot repair every non-booting phone, so persistent failure, physical damage, or a phone that remains unable to boot requires Samsung service.
What Smart Switch can do when a Galaxy A57 will not start
Samsung Smart Switch is a desktop utility for Mac and Windows that can install an available Galaxy software update and, after a failed update, guide the phone through an emergency recovery. The phone does not necessarily need to reach the Android home screen for recovery to be possible, but Smart Switch must detect the device or display an emergency-recovery entry for it.

“Galaxy A57” can refer to different sales variants. Samsung’s 2026 software-update record identifies SM-A576B as one Galaxy A57 5G variant. Menus, update packages and recovery instructions can vary with the exact model code, software version, carrier and region. Check the label on the phone, its packaging or the information shown by Smart Switch before applying model-specific instructions. Do not guess a hardware-key sequence from instructions written for another Galaxy model.

Smart Switch is most useful when the failure is software-related and the USB connection remains functional. It is not a guarantee that every non-booting device can be restored.

Prepare the computer, cable and phone
Complete these checks before attempting an update or recovery. They prevent a failed connection from being mistaken for a damaged phone.
- Use a Mac or Windows PC with Samsung Smart Switch installed.
- Use a USB-C cable that supports data transfer. A charge-only cable cannot carry the Smart Switch connection. Samsung recommends the cable supplied with the Galaxy when it is available.
- Connect the phone directly to the computer rather than through a hub, monitor, keyboard or other adapter.
- Use a working USB port. If the first port fails, move the cable to another port before changing more settings.
- Close other phone-management or flashing programs so they cannot compete for the USB connection.
- Keep the computer connected to reliable power. Do not allow it to sleep, restart or install an interruption while Smart Switch is writing software.
- Inspect the phone, USB-C connector and cable for visible physical damage or liquid exposure. Hardware damage needs professional inspection instead of repeated software attempts.
If the phone can still reach any screen, leave it undisturbed while preparing Smart Switch. If it is completely dark, connect the cable and open Smart Switch anyway; the program may identify the device or present a recovery option even when Android does not load.
Try the ordinary Smart Switch update first
Use this path when Smart Switch detects the A57 and presents a normal software update. It is the least invasive option in the desktop workflow.

- Install and open Samsung Smart Switch on the Mac or Windows PC.
- Connect the Galaxy A57 directly with the USB-C data cable.
- Wait for Smart Switch to identify the phone. Detection can take a short time when the phone is stuck at a logo or restarting.
- Look for the Update option. Samsung says Smart Switch shows an option to update to a new software version when one is available.
- Select Update and read the on-screen information, including any model or regional qualification.
- Approve the prompts and let Smart Switch download and install the software.
- Do not disconnect the USB cable or use the phone until Smart Switch reports that the update is complete. An interruption during installation can leave the phone needing emergency recovery.
The computer may show progress while the phone’s screen remains blank, displays a logo, or restarts more than once. Those states are not, by themselves, a reason to unplug the cable. Wait for Smart Switch to finish or to report a specific error.

Use Emergency Software Recovery after an interrupted update
Choose emergency recovery when a previous update failed, Smart Switch reports that the device needs recovery, or the phone is stuck in a boot loop after software installation. The menu wording includes “Initialization,” so treat this as a repair procedure that may reset the device and may not preserve data.
- Disconnect the phone from the computer.
- Close Smart Switch completely, then open it again. Restarting the program clears a temporary connection or update state.
- At the top of the Smart Switch window, open MORE.
- Select Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization. Some Smart Switch help screens abbreviate this to Emergency Software Recovery.
- In the recovery list, select the device shown as requiring recovery.
- Read the warning and recovery information, then choose OK when you are ready to continue.
- Follow Smart Switch’s on-screen instructions for placing this exact device into recovery mode. Use the displayed instructions for the A57 variant instead of a key combination copied from another model.
- Reconnect the phone when Smart Switch asks for it and allow the recovery process to complete without touching the cable, phone or computer.
The phone may change screens or restart during this process. Keep the connection intact until Smart Switch gives a completion message or an explicit error. If the program cannot identify the device or does not offer an emergency entry, move to the recognition steps below rather than repeatedly forcing a recovery sequence.
Continue recovery on a second computer with a code
Smart Switch can provide a recovery-code route when the original computer cannot complete the repair. This is useful when the first computer has a software conflict or cannot finish the process, but the phone is still listed in Smart Switch’s recovery workflow.

- On the computer where the update failed, open Smart Switch.
- Choose MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.
- Write down the recovery code displayed for the failed device. The code is available only on the computer where the failure occurred.
- Install or open Smart Switch on another Mac or Windows PC.
- Open MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.
- Choose Emergency recovery using the recovery code.
- Enter the code exactly as displayed on the first computer.
- Follow the second computer’s recovery-mode and installation instructions, keeping the USB connection intact until the process ends.
A second computer does not bypass model or regional compatibility checks. It simply supplies another Smart Switch environment for the recovery record created by the failed attempt.

Fix “Smart Switch does not recognize my Galaxy A57”
Recognition problems are often caused by the cable, USB port or desktop driver rather than by the phone’s software. Work through these remedies in order.
Reconnect and retry
Disconnect the cable, close and reopen Smart Switch, then reconnect the phone directly. If the A57 can power on far enough to display a connection prompt, respond to that prompt on the phone. Samsung’s recognition guidance assumes the phone can be powered on for this retry; a completely unresponsive phone should use emergency recovery only when Smart Switch presents it.
Change the USB port
Move the cable to a different USB port on the same computer. Avoid hubs and adapters. A port that charges a phone is not necessarily providing a stable data connection, so test another port even if the phone’s battery icon appears.
Reinstall the Smart Switch device driver
- Open Smart Switch.
- At the top of the window, select MORE.
- Choose Reinstall device driver.
- Allow the driver installation to finish.
- Reconnect the A57 and try the update or recovery again.
If the phone is detected after the driver reinstall, use the normal Update path when it is offered. If Smart Switch instead lists the device for recovery, follow the emergency-recovery procedure.

Replace a charge-only or damaged cable
Smart Switch requires a USB data connection. A cable that only supplies power can make the phone appear to charge while preventing detection. Use a known-good, data-rated USB-C cable, preferably the one supplied with the phone, and check the connector for damage.

Understand data loss and interruption risks
The normal update path is designed to install a newer software version while Smart Switch manages the phone’s connection. Emergency recovery is different: Samsung labels the menu Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization, and the initialization wording means you should plan for the possibility that the phone will be reset. Do not begin emergency recovery assuming that photos, messages or app data will definitely remain available.
If the phone starts far enough to unlock, copy important files before experimenting with recovery. If it never reaches Android, there may be no practical way to make a backup through Smart Switch before repair. Avoid repeatedly disconnecting the cable to “test” progress; interruption during a write operation can create another recovery failure.
Do not install firmware intended for a different model code, carrier or region. Smart Switch’s available package and prompts are tied to what it identifies. If the displayed model does not match your A57 variant, stop and verify the model before proceeding.

What not to do when the phone is stuck in a boot loop
- Do not unplug the USB cable while Smart Switch is downloading, installing or recovering software.
- Do not close the computer lid, force a restart or allow an operating-system update to interrupt Smart Switch.
- Do not rely on a cable that only charges, even if the phone shows a charging symbol.
- Do not keep repeating a failed recovery without changing the identified cause, such as the port, driver, cable or computer.
- Do not guess a universal recovery or download-mode key sequence. Samsung’s reviewed guidance does not publish one sequence that applies to every Galaxy A57 variant.
- Do not continue software troubleshooting if the phone has obvious physical damage or liquid exposure.
When Smart Switch is not enough
Escalate to Samsung service when Smart Switch cannot detect the phone after a different port, a known-good data cable and the device-driver reinstall; when emergency recovery repeatedly fails; when no recovery-code path is available; or when the phone has visible damage. A Galaxy that remains unable to boot can have a hardware fault, and desktop software cannot repair a damaged connector, storage component or other physical failure.
Tell the service representative the exact model code, carrier and region if known, what happened immediately before the failure, whether an update was interrupted, and which Smart Switch menu or error appeared. If you used a recovery code, bring the code and the computer that generated it when possible. This information helps service staff distinguish an update failure from a connection or hardware problem.
A practical decision sequence
- Verify the exact A57 model and inspect the phone and cable for damage.
- Install Smart Switch on a Mac or Windows PC and connect with a USB-C data cable directly to the computer.
- If Smart Switch detects the phone and shows Update, run that update and do not disconnect until it completes.
- If the update failed or an emergency state appears, restart Smart Switch and use MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.
- If the original computer cannot finish, record its recovery code and use Emergency recovery using the recovery code on another computer.
- If the phone is not recognized, retry the connection, change USB ports, reinstall the Smart Switch device driver and try again.
- If none of those paths works, or if damage is visible, stop and contact Samsung service rather than forcing an unverified recovery sequence.
Bottom line for a Galaxy A57 that will not start
Smart Switch is worth trying when the A57 can be detected over USB: use the normal Update option first, then the emergency-recovery menu after a failed installation. A data-capable cable, a different USB port, the built-in driver reinstall and, if necessary, a second computer with the recovery code cover the supported desktop remedies. Because availability depends on the exact model, software version, carrier and region—and because hardware faults can look like software failures—persistent non-booting or damaged phones belong with Samsung service.
