Update Bricksforge to version 4.0.1 or a later release containing the same fix, then verify the installed version on WordPress’s Plugins screen. Bricksforge’s official changelog dates version 4.0.1 to 8 October 2026 and says it fixes a security issue in Pro Forms file uploads. The notice applies to every site with Pro Forms active, including sites whose forms have no upload field.
Take a current backup before changing the plugin. WordPress provides update routes under Dashboard > Updates and on the Plugins page, but the notice you see depends on how Bricksforge was installed and whether its author supplies an updater.

Why this Bricksforge update needs prompt attention
The 4.0.1 release is a security update, not merely a feature release. Bricksforge says it fixed “a security issue in the Pro Forms file upload” and recommends updating because the issue affects every site with Pro Forms active. That includes a site where no form currently contains an upload field. In other words, checking only your individual form settings is not a safe way to decide whether the update matters.

Forms that include upload fields are reported by Bricksforge to continue working as before after the fix. That is a vendor release-note statement, not a guarantee that every site configuration, theme, integration, or custom validation rule will behave identically. A short functional check after updating is therefore sensible.
Which release should be installed?
Use the official Bricksforge version changelog as the release reference. The relevant entries currently listed there are:

The available changelog does not establish a complete vulnerability-by-version matrix for older releases. Community reports, support posts, or a version number that merely looks recent should not be substituted for the official release note when you are confirming this patch.
Before you update: make the change reversible
Record the current state
Open the WordPress administration area and note the Bricksforge version shown on the Plugins screen. Also record whether Pro Forms is active and identify the forms that matter to your business, especially forms that accept files, send notifications, or trigger post-actions. This gives you a before-and-after reference if behavior changes.
Do not deactivate Pro Forms simply to avoid the issue unless you have a separate operational reason. The changelog’s scope is sites with Pro Forms active, whether or not an upload field is configured; disabling a form temporarily is not a substitute for installing the fix.
Confirm a current backup
WordPress.org’s Manage Plugins documentation says: “Always make sure you have a current backup of your site before updating your plugins.” A usable backup should cover the site files and database, and you should know where the restore controls are before you begin. If your host or backup system reports that the latest copy failed, resolve that first rather than relying on an old archive.

A backup is a recovery measure, not proof that the update is safe. It protects you if the update is interrupted or if a compatibility problem appears afterward. Keep the backup from immediately before the update identifiable so you do not accidentally restore an older site state.
Choose a low-risk maintenance window
Update when you can monitor the site and submit a test form. If your site receives important enquiries, orders, registrations, or uploads continuously, plan for the shortest practical observation period and ensure someone can respond if a form fails. The release note does not specify downtime requirements, so do not promise visitors that the update is invisible in every environment.
How to update Bricksforge from Dashboard > Updates
This is the normal WordPress route when the installation exposes an update notice.
- Sign in to WordPress with an account allowed to manage plugins.
- Open Dashboard > Updates. WordPress’s Dashboard Updates screen documentation explains that available plugin updates are listed there.
- Locate Bricksforge in the plugin updates list and confirm that the update is the one offered for your installation.
- Start the update and wait for WordPress to report completion. Do not close the browser or begin another plugin update while the process is running.
- Open the Plugins page after the update, because the completion notice by itself is not the version verification step.
If Bricksforge is not listed, do not conclude that the site is patched. WordPress only shows an update when its update system receives one for that installation. Continue with the Plugins-page check and the vendor-changelog check described below.
How to update Bricksforge from the Plugins page
WordPress also documents an update notice directly on the Plugins screen. Use this route when the Bricksforge entry displays an available update.

- Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.
- Find the Bricksforge entry and read its update notice rather than updating a similarly named extension.
- Select the available update action and wait for WordPress to finish.
- Reload the page and open the Bricksforge entry’s details so you can read the installed version.
The exact wording of the notice can vary with WordPress and the plugin’s updater. If the page offers no update action, use the official changelog to determine the target and investigate the installation’s supported update route; do not download a ZIP from an unverified mirror.

What to do when no update notice appears
Check how Bricksforge was installed
WordPress.org’s Plugins screen documentation distinguishes plugins obtained from the WordPress.org directory from plugins installed manually or supplied through an external vendor. For an externally obtained plugin, WordPress displays an update notice only when the author provides a built-in updater. Therefore, a missing notice may mean that the updater is unavailable or not connected, not that no patched release exists.
Use the Bricksforge changelog to compare the installed version with the release target. The supplied documentation does not establish a Bricksforge-specific account screen, license-activation procedure, download URL, or manual ZIP workflow. Do not invent those steps or assume that a generic WordPress upload procedure is the vendor’s supported method.
Check for a later release
If the dashboard offers a release newer than 4.0.1, read that release’s official notes. Install it only when the notes are consistent with the Pro Forms security fix or when the release clearly supersedes it. A later version number is not, by itself, evidence that a particular security issue was fixed; the changelog is the reference.

If the installed version is older, no update notice is available, and you cannot identify a supported updater, keep the backup and document the version while you contact Bricksforge through its official support channel. Until the installed version is verified against the patched release, treat the site as unconfirmed rather than patched. Avoid posting sensitive site credentials, form contents, or uploaded files in a public support forum.
How to verify the patched version after updating
Verification has two separate parts: confirming the number stored in WordPress and matching that number to the vendor’s release note.
- Open Plugins > Installed Plugins.
- Locate the Bricksforge row and read the version shown for the installed plugin. If the row is truncated, open the plugin details or expand the row so the full number is visible.
- Compare that number with the official Bricksforge version changelog. For the release dated 8 October 2026, the patched target is 4.0.1; a later release is acceptable only if its official notes include the same fix.
- Record the verified version and date in your maintenance log. This prevents a future administrator from mistaking an update attempt or a cached notice for an installed release.
- If WordPress still reports the old number, clear the page cache or reload the administration page and check again. If the number remains old, the update did not complete and the site is not verified.
A green “Update successful” message confirms that WordPress completed an update operation; it does not replace the version comparison. Likewise, seeing a new changelog entry in a browser does not prove that your site installed it.

Once the version is verified, check the parts of the site that matter to visitors and administrators. These checks are practical operating guidance, not a test matrix published by Bricksforge.

- Open a page containing a Pro Form in a logged-out browser or private window.
- Submit the form with the same required fields a normal visitor uses.
- Confirm the expected success message, redirect, or confirmation behavior.
- Confirm that the notification or downstream action arrives where your site normally sends it.
Check an upload-enabled form
If your site has a legitimate upload form, test it with a harmless, non-sensitive file that meets the form’s configured limits. Confirm that validation, submission, storage or delivery, and the resulting notification behave as expected. Remove the test file afterward if the form stores uploads. Bricksforge says upload-field forms continue working as before, but your own check can reveal unrelated conflicts with caching, mail delivery, storage permissions, or custom code.
Check the pages around the form
- Load the form page on desktop and mobile layouts.
- Check that the page builder output, scripts, and styling still load.
- Review the browser console or server error log only if you already use those tools; do not change production settings just to create a diagnostic test.
- Confirm that unrelated high-value pages remain available.
If a form fails, capture the exact time, form URL, visitor action, visible error, and installed Bricksforge version before changing anything. That information makes diagnosis more reliable than repeatedly updating or deactivating plugins without a record.
What to do if the update causes a problem
Separate a failed update from a compatibility problem
An old version shown on the Plugins page indicates that the update did not install successfully. A patched version accompanied by a broken form indicates a post-update compatibility or configuration problem. These are different situations and should not be handled by repeating the same update action.
Use the backup you made before the change
If the site is materially broken and you cannot restore normal operation quickly, use your documented backup and restore process to return to the pre-update state, then preserve the error details for support. Restoring is a site-level operation: it can also remove legitimate content created after the backup, so record any new submissions or edits before rolling back. WordPress.org’s backup advice is the reason this recovery option should be prepared before updating.
Do not claim a vulnerability is resolved after a rollback
A rollback may restore availability, but it also returns the plugin to the earlier version. If you restore an older copy, document that the security patch is no longer installed and arrange a supported update path. Do not describe the rolled-back site as patched merely because the form works again.
Should you enable automatic updates?
WordPress documents plugin and theme auto-updates in its plugin and themes auto-updates guidance. Automatic updates can reduce the time a site remains on an old release, but they do not remove the need to verify important security fixes or maintain backups. Whether the control appears for Bricksforge depends on the installation and the updater it supports.
If you use automatic updates, keep a change log and monitor the site’s important forms after a release. If you do not use them, establish a routine for checking the Bricksforge changelog and WordPress update notices. The objective is a verified patched version, not simply a particular update setting.
Security context for nearby Bricksforge releases
The changelog’s recent entries explain why version numbers alone can be misleading:
- 3.1.8.9 (28 August 2026) covers security hardening for Email Designer template rendering.
- 4.0.0 (17 September 2026) includes the latest security fixes from the 3.x line, including Pro Forms post-action hardening, and lists a Twig sandbox change for Email Designer content.
- 4.0.1 (8 October 2026) addresses the Pro Forms file-upload security issue described above.
These entries describe different fixes. Installing 4.0.0 or remembering that a 3.x security release was applied does not establish that the 4.0.1 issue is covered. Match the release note to the issue you are trying to verify.
Limits of what the published information establishes
The official release note does not provide a CVE identifier, exploit proof, affected function names, a required WordPress or PHP version, or a detailed regression-test checklist. It also does not establish a universal manual-install procedure, a specific license workflow, or a guaranteed update time. Those details should come from Bricksforge’s own current documentation or support, not from assumptions.
For this task, the dependable evidence is narrower and more useful: the scope statement for active Pro Forms, the 4.0.1 release date and fix description, WordPress’s documented update locations, and the requirement to verify the installed plugin version. Keeping those boundaries clear prevents both underreacting to the security notice and overstating what has been publicly disclosed.
