First identify which playlist you mean: a collection managed on YouTube, or the playout queue in the encoder or cloud service sending the live program. Edit the YouTube collection in YouTube; edit the live queue in the system generating the stream. Whether an on-air queue change takes effect immediately or interrupts the broadcast depends on that system.
First: distinguish a YouTube playlist from the live playout queue
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos on your channel. A playout playlist is the queue of media that an encoder or cloud service sends as the live program. They are different parts of the workflow: YouTube documents playlist management separately from sending an encoder feed to YouTube using a stream URL and key. Editing one does not, by itself, change the other. YouTube’s playlist guide and encoder guide describe those separate roles.

Update a YouTube playlist
- Sign in to the YouTube account that can manage the playlist, then open the playlist you want to change.
- Select Edit next to the section you want to change.
- To reorder videos, open the playlist and drag a video up or down. You can also save a video to an existing playlist from that video’s watch page.
- Check the playlist page to confirm the change was saved.
This edits the YouTube collection, not the video or audio currently being sent by a separate live encoder. YouTube’s instructions do not specify how quickly a playlist already open in another viewer’s tab refreshes.

- Identify what is sending the current feed: desktop streaming software, a hardware encoder, or a cloud playout service.
- In that system, find the active queue or source playlist. Do not use the channel’s YouTube playlist editor for this task.
- Use the product’s documented live-edit, queue, or source-switch controls to make the change.
- Check the outgoing preview and the YouTube watch page to verify what is reaching viewers.
YouTube’s encoder guide explains that the encoder sends content using YouTube’s server URL and stream key; it does not document controlling the encoder’s media queue from Live Control Room. The reviewed Live Control Room instructions cover stream settings and metadata, not editing an external encoder’s queue. The precise controls and whether a change is seamless, immediate, or requires a restart depend on the product and its configuration. Do not assume a switch will be interruption-free.

If the broadcast is scheduled but has not started
Make the change in whichever system owns the scheduled program. For a YouTube playlist, edit the collection in YouTube. For a scheduled broadcast assembled by a third-party service, open that service’s broadcast and edit its playlist there. OneStream Live’s help page, last updated August 6, 2026, describes this workflow: open Streams, select Edit, change the playlist video content, continue through destination and stream details, and schedule the broadcast. That page describes editing before the broadcast goes live; it does not establish that the same workflow can alter an already-running broadcast. See OneStream Live’s instructions.
Check product-specific support before editing on air
Live editing of the actual program queue is specific to the encoder or playout service. For example, Playout.video advertises “Smart Playlists & Dynamic Queues,” live playlist edits, and inline switching without downtime. Those are vendor claims, not independently verified results; confirm that the feature supports your exact setup and YouTube destination before relying on an uninterrupted change. See Playout.video.

- Is the change to playlist membership or order, or to the content currently being broadcast?
- Is the broadcast already live, or only scheduled?
- Which system owns the queue: YouTube, local encoder, hardware encoder, or cloud playout?
- Does that product document on-air queue edits and the effect on the outgoing stream?
