How many islands are in How to Fish?
There are five commonly named locations in the main story route: Lighthouse, Forest, Desert, Rocks and Volcano. Those labels come from community guides, rather than a canonical island list in the official Steam game description. The Steam page describes progression more broadly: players complete quests and fight bosses to reach new islands.

Do not treat five as the total number of islands in the current game. The official Islet Update 1.1.0, published September 28, 2026, added multiple mini islands along with creatures, a mini-boss, items, bait, an NPC, achievements and an outfit. Official update material also refers to island 6, but does not establish a complete canonical list of mini-island names or coordinates. See the official Islet Update announcement for its scope.
How do you unlock the main story islands?
The detailed boss and quest sequence below is reported by community walkthroughs; Steam confirms the general quest-and-boss progression, but not these specific names or steps. The route is a practical guide to the main story, not an official map or exhaustive account of optional mini-islands.

Begin in the Lighthouse area and progress through the Spider Crab encounter. Community walkthroughs say completing this sequence gives you boat keys, which let you travel onward.

Prepare leech-based bait for the Giant Piranha. Defeating it yields a trophy that advances the story route.

Defeat Tuna first. Community guides describe using Tuna to trigger the Terrorizing Bird, also called the Albatross encounter. Its trophy advances the route.

Reach Volcano for the late-game sequence
Community walkthroughs describe the Volcano endgame as involving the Goblin Shark, Bowhead Whale and Mutated Bowhead Whale. The available route descriptions do not establish a more detailed official sequence for these encounters.
What changed in newer updates?
- Island travel exploits may no longer work. Patch 1.0.5, published August 22, 2026, fixed a bug that let players travel to any island without unlocking it. Follow the progression route rather than relying on older bypass advice. The change is recorded in the official patch history.
- There is more island content than the five main story locations. Islet Update 1.1.0 added multiple mini islands and adjusted distances between islands. It did not publish a complete canonical mini-island list or coordinates, so specific names and locations should not be assumed from the update announcement alone.

The game’s Steam listing establishes the title, its release date of August 20, 2026, its 1–4 player format and its broad quest-and-boss progression. The named route and encounter steps are community-reported walkthrough details, so individual requirements may change with updates. Official patch announcements establish the 1.0.5 travel-bug fix and the 1.1.0 mini-island additions, but not a full map of every island.
