To use them, open the Garage’s Gadget Customization screen and attach them to your Gadget Plate. Check each gadget’s plate requirement and the current rules for your race mode: updates have added gadgets, changed availability, and restricted some effects in competitive modes.
Where to equip gadgets
- Open the Garage.
- Choose Gadget Customization.
- Attach the gadgets you want to your Gadget Plate, then confirm your setup.
SEGA describes gadgets as abilities that change your playstyle options. Its features page lists over 70 gadgets, a publisher-stated count that may change as the game is updated. SEGA’s features page frames the choice around adapting your setup to your playstyle and each track.

How to unlock more gadgets
Keep playing to unlock more gadgets. SEGA specifically identifies increases in World Match rank as a reward route. The required rank is not universal: check the requirement shown for the gadget you want, including any Gadget Plate threshold.

SEGA’s update notices name particular groups and their minimum plate ranks. These examples are update-specific, not a complete or guaranteed current unlock chart.

For a ticket purchase, open Gadget Customization and check whether the kit is listed and whether you meet its plate requirement. Festival rewards and ticket-shop availability can vary with updates.
What gadgets do during a race
Gadgets have different effects; not every gadget works as a button-triggered ability. SEGA’s examples include carrying extra items, charging a drift more easily, and enlarging the Rocket Punch. Other options support ring strategies, stat tuning, item access or control, and defensive or support play. Choose for the job you need rather than assuming one setup is best for every track, machine, or mode.

Some gadgets are actively triggered. SEGA’s Ver. 1.3.1 update added the ability to add or change a button that triggers gadget abilities. The online manual’s button wording is based on Closed Network Test specifications, however, so it is not a reliable current control map. Check the game’s current button assignments and the gadget’s in-game description before a race.

Patch changes can affect both gadget effects and where they are allowed. In its Ver. 1.3.1 notice, SEGA said Warp Ring and Warp Ring Specialist could not be used in World Match, Festivals, or Legend Competition, while remaining available against CPU opponents and in Friend Matches. Verify the current game rules and official update notices before building around a particular gadget.

SEGA’s Ver. 1.3.1 notice added eight Ring-related gadgets; Ver. 1.4.1 added another eight gadgets to expand existing playstyles. Ver. 1.4.1, dated June 24, 2026, is the latest official patch notice covered here, not confirmation that no later update exists. Check your installed game version and current official notices for changes after that date.
